Signing guys through free agency is just throwing money away. Especially early on in the process. That has been proven true year after year. If anything, wait to see what falls through the cracks.

David Caldwell has been a G.M. for three months and he is already the best in the business. Not even close.

Thank goodness Ozzie Newsome is their GM. Does an excellent job of reloading.

Them not keeping Ellerbe or Boldin has absolutely zero to do with Flaccos new deal. Zero. Less than zero. Nothing.

Depending on who you sign. Like for instance, Miami Dolphins? Giving Mike Williams top 5 WR money is a joke.

If you make a splash getting guys who fit your scheme or pulling off a deal for an elite player, then it works.

So the Dolphins sign Ellerbe? (Spelling?) Aren't they moving to a 4-3? Probably a terrible fit.

I'm still interested to see who Miami cuts (Karlos Dansby or Kevin Burnett) and where Ellerbe is gonna line up in a 4-3. They have the cap room to keep all three, could mean Koa Misi as a trade piece or to the bench.

Overall though, it's really dumb and wasteful. Sure you might get lucky sometime, but in terms of spending your money wisely, you're a lot better off in Vegas. There is loads of data backing that up. But the G.M.s get scared of losing their jobs. So they waste money. Then they lose their jobs.

The FA haul of Plaxico Burress, Kareem McKenzie, and Antonio Pierce sure was a terrible offseason for the Giants.

Not only that, but I'd much rather have this "problem" if it meant having a Super Bowl trophy.

Flacco's deal is not a great one, and is going to have significant financial impacts on the Ravens during the duration of his Ravens career. However, the impacts aren't immediate. Come 2016 though, he has that team by the balls and will get an even better deal from the Ravens then.
