I said it last year NFC = NBA Western Conference.

The NFC was obviously going to be loaded. Not quite sure why it's a talking point even.

Seattle has been awful quiet in FA. Maybe they'll swoop in at the last minute and do some bargain basement shopping.

And they raised their season ticket prices by 12%. If only wages went up by that much.

They haven't really been quiet. They've already signed a couple of damned good D-linemen and have had visits from loads of guys. Seems like every D lineman went out to Seattle for a visit.

Don't dismiss the possibility of them drafting a WR. Nicks is on 1-year deal.

McDaniel was their guy, too. Those were two of the best D-linemen on the market, they know the system, and they have proven to play at a high level in it. They did better signing them than a couple of guys from other teams. Re-worked Zach Miller's deal to keep a really good TE when everyone thought he was going to get cut, too. They also signed a receiver, albeit a nobody.

They're a really good team that doesn't have a ton of cap room, and they've got key players needing extensions ASAP. Only crappy teams with a ton of cap room get to go on signing sprees (Tampa).

For the resources available to them, they've been extremely active.

Meanwhile, like I've said...they've been reported to have talked to or visited with tons of free agents. D linemen, receivers, and tight ends. I've probably seen more tweets about them talking to free agents than any other team.

Zach Miller re-did his contract, taking a true paycut (not a credit card re-structure where you just delay the hit across future years). So 3M more in cap space this year.

That means they have 16.4M available. -5 for the draft class, they still have over 11M to play with. That's plenty of room to make one splash or a few lower-tier signings.

It's probably a precursor for a move. That move could be an extension for ETIII or Sherman, though. Or it could be Jared Allen. Or Melton. Or a WR.

As for Finley, some people think they'll still consider him, maybe as more of a WR. I don't. I think having Miller, Willson, and McCoy is a nice trio.

Yes they to worry about extending guys in the future, so maybe rolling over cap space is what they'll end up doing. But being the favorite, I think you spend your money to maximize your roster right now, as long as it doesn't jeopardize re-signing your own stars.

So I'm not sure if Ware/Peppers were ever realistic (they went for a lot more than I thought they would). Which means I wouldn't bet on Jared Allen if he's really asking for that type of deal (and why wouldn't he).

But they'll add at least two more guys I think. I like some of the bargain bin FA WRs. Cotchery, Holmes - even Damian Williams. They are worth a look at a cheap price.

But even if the season started today and the only moves they made were to extend ETIII and the draft, they'd still probably have the best roster in the NFL.

EDIT: forgot K. Figure 2-3M for Hauschka. Less if it's someone else signed off the street or drafted.

So they have anywhere from 9-10M to spend, not 11.4.

Holy ****.

"The Jaguars were happy to get a low-round draft pick for Blaine Gabbert, but people in the building at EverBank Field believe Gabbert has the ability and the intangibles to resurrect his career in San Francisco. They knew it couldn't happen in Jacksonville, though. Their take on Gabbert is he was forced to play before he was ready, and he was beaten up physically and mentally. He had to play in three different offenses and deal with injuries. They believe Gabbert works hard and has the aptitude to take off in the right environment with the right coaching."

From a Dan Pompeii article. Jesus. Every excuse under the sun for him. Everyone in Jacksonville is an idiot if even now they can't admit that Blaine Gabbert is just bad.

None of that is unreasonable. And the same can be said for Sanchez.

I agree that it doesn't seem like it's in the fiber of Gabbert to play at the NFL level, but to dismiss what people like Harbaugh and his former coaches think impacted him as JUST excuses is just myopic and a little unfair.

No one has looked THAT bad and had any type of success, but guys have looked REALLY bad and had some success.

Being on a ****** team, learning a new offense every year, and having injuries can and do affect QB play. I'd argue that a true franchise QB should affect those negatives more than they affect him. But at this point no one wants him to be that guy. He can just sit along for the ride in a positive situation and see what happens.

Will that make him all of the sudden able to deal with pressure and throw the ball better? Probably not. But over time, it's not out of the question that he improves at least a little in a better situation.

I think they are approaching cap hell. Once they have to pay Wilson big dollars, they already know that they will have to unload a few starters. Ditto for San Fran when Kaep gets his $$$'s. They are living in fantasy land, considering they both got their QB's outside of round 1, but that only lasts so long.

James Jones is still out there correct? Carolina needs to make a push. Brandon LaFell is a free agent too. I don't know if they'll resign him, but it's looking ugly right now for the Panthers at wideout.

Yeah, this is just blatantly false. You should probably look at both teams' cap situations before just making a blind assumption.

Seattle has 52M in cap space for 2015, and can cut Lynch, Mebane, Okung, and Zach Miller to free up as much as 22.5M more.

They biggest cap hits next year are Harvin at 12.9, Bennett at 8, and the best SS in the league at 5.5 (extended last year). That's it. The rest of it will be spent on ETIII, Wilson, Wagner, and most likely Sherman.

Will they lose some good UFA's - perhaps Avril/Irvin (like they did this year with Tate)? Possibly. Will they comp. picks for those guys? Yes.

And if they don't replenish via the draft, they probably won't be as good complementing their core of Wilson, Harvin, Kam, ETIII, Bennett, Wagner. But why wouldn't they continue to draft well? They have every year.

Will they have a team as good as the 2013 squad from top to bottom? Probably not. They had ridiculous depth pretty much everywhere.

But they aren't anywhere near cap hell. You don't get into cap hell unless you give out multiple bad contracts you can't get out of (cough, Panthers, cough).

Extending your own guys and continuing to draft well is a surefire way to stay out of cap hell. Both SEA and SF have done this.

Details on the Charlie Whitehurst contract:

1st year 1m salary guaranteed, 500k prorated bonus.
2nd year 2m salary, 500k prorated bonus and 250k roster bonus.

So basically it can be a 1 year 2m or a 2 yr 4.25 contract unless he were to hit unlikely incentives if the source is accurate.

Seems reasonable for a backup QB

Peppers deal strikes me as odd but the numbers make it basically a non risk 1 year rental for the Packers with the option to keep him next year should he suddenly rekindle his career.

Considering he hasn't missed a game in 4 years, he obviously treats his body well and could conceivably have a couple solid years.

Cleveland needs to take one of the top quarterbacks in this draft.

After six weeks of negotiations, it seems. Now I can shut the hell up about it in this thread. Sorry dudes.

Two years; didn't see a monetary figure yet

He stated that they are approaching cap hell, which they very well could be. For example if Earl Thomas get 8-10, Sherman get 10, Wilson gets 15-18 thats around 30-32 on a back loaded contract. Factor in they have around 33 people under contract for 2015 and say they average 1m filling those guys out that'd be the 52m right there.

That's not factoring in the resigning of guys like Bobby Wagner, Russell Okung for the future.

Lastly, let's not act like the Seahawks haven't had some bad drafting. Last year the most contribution was a TE 20r 272y 1td. James Carpenter or John Moffit mean anything?

Assuming they are going to continue to select pro bowl players in the 5th round is just a little too ignorant for me.

While they're not in cap hell, and are nowhere close in current day to be so, they will lose some of their "core" players and they will be hard to replace. They will have to pay their QB which will effect their ability to pay the rest of the squad. They will have to analyze and decide which members can and which can't be replaced. If they handle this properly they will avoid cap problems, but if they do not they could enter a cap situation

I just don't think he ever had any interest in leaving.
