As it stands, the conduct policy is very cognizant of an athlete's right to due process. Four-game suspensions are the maximum, and those aren't handed out lightly.

About time. Teams don't want to start stepping in, so it's time for the league to step in. After Pacman Jones and Darriant Williams, you would think the league would start getting the message.

what Darrent do wrong? go to a club? he didnt start a fight..he was in car and he was a victim of a drive by.

Exactly. Darrent Williams didn't do a thing wrong. He just sat in the limo and was shot and killed.

There is more to the story than what people know or what to know. He has had a history of hanging around unsaviory characters, had character problems in the draft. This was discussed before. People don't want this crime to be solved because of bad stuff that would come out about Darrient Williams.

Darrent was promoting one of his rap groups inside of a seedy nightclub while riding in a stretch limo in a bad neighborhood. He might as well have painted a target on it and have it say "shoot me".

Ok enough about that.

It's a smart move by the NFL. This is a business, and they are better served by keeping a good public image and attracting fans. It's almost a no brainer that more fans will come to the NFL if it is proactive about dealing with "thugs" than there are fans that will leave because they are turned off by strict labor practices.

A concept often forgotten. No other business is lenient with this kind of (mis)-conduct, why should the NFL be? People like Adam Jones, should have learned the lesson, stop hanging with your thug friends, stop going to strip clubs at 3:00 in the morning, etcetera.

This is a very good idea. However, once it is in place there has been talk about punishing players like Pacman for being involved in incidents. How is that fair to punish him for doing something bad before the rule was in place? I don't see that happening.

He shouldn't have done any of this in the first place.

Yes that's true, but they shouldn't be allowed to put a rule in place and then punish Pacman for doing things that violate the rule even though he didn't know the terms. That's unconstitutional, but who knows how much weight that holds with the NFL.

In response to the comments about Darrent Williams:

There were reports circulating that Williams was involved in gang activities. Whether this is true or not is up for debate but I don't find it completely unbelievable. He may not have been the target for the shooting but when you're involved in gang activities or even associating yourself with gang members, you're putting yourself at risk.
