No, I wasn't surprised by the Poe pick at all. I was expecting it with Tannehill off the board.

I really wasn't surprised a lot by the Poe selection either.
I knew they weren't taking a Guard. Once I saw Barron, Tannehill and Kuechly go 7 8 and 9 I had a feeling it was coming.

is it just me or does anyone else think this will be a defense heavy draft for us?I know we'll probably take an OG but our FA we went heavy on offense so will we do opposite draftwise?

I don't know why anyone would have been surprised by the Poe pick, it's only the second biggest need on the team.

Wanted to see how my 2nd favorite team board felt about their pick last night. I liked it, I think DeCastro would have been a better pick because he can step in and play right away, but Poe is a big bodied NT who will reek havoc in a few years if he develops. Can't wait to see 3rd down packages of Houston-Bailey-Poe-Hali getting at the QB and knocking that dumb face right off Rivers.

Biggest need yes, clearly, but the "tape is just average" and Pioli has always said he pays more attention to tape than numbers. Apparently Pioli and the Chiefs scouts saw things differently on tape than the likes of Mike Mayock.

He does give them some versatility. He played LT at Illinois and the Will Shields announced him as a guard so I'd assume that's where the Chiefs intend to play him. Not an exciting pick but it fills a need.

Interesting pick. The Chiefs got kind of hosed by the picks leading up to theirs. Jeff Allen's a really good fit in that OL unit and doesn't have to start at OG right away with Lilja. Tons of versatility. He can play anywhere but C if he isn't a Day 1 starter at G.

I feel a tad bit better about it after talking to Shane, ATL, and TACKLE. Good depth everywhere this year and will eventually start. Probably at RG while Asamoah moves over to LG. Our offensive line is really young, which is a good sign and something I really like.

I actually like the pick he will either start over Lilja or give us depth at both OT and OG.

does anyone else feel like the Allen pick would have been Silatolu or even Glenn had they been there?

Yes. I have a feeling that Amini would have gone to us at 44 if he had been there.

For what it's worth, Mel Kiper had some good things to say about Allen in his big book:
Quote:
|
He is very intelligent and he plays a solid, reliable brand of football. When you watch him play, you rarely saw fundamental mistakes or penalties that would set the offense back. Allen is a hard-working leader, respected by both his coaches and teammates. He got better every year he played in the Big Ten, which is the kind of trend you look for when you’re evaluating NFL potential.

Yeah, I think they wanted Silatolu. Maybe not so much on Cordy Glenn, though.
There's really not much to hate about Jeff Allen other than it's not a name we were really talking about at #44. They got the right position and a guy they apparently like a lot. Great system fit. Might as well be optimistic about it. They didn't really pass on someone that was a much better prospect for their system at the same position. They got the very best G available and the guy they got has a ton of upside.

Silatolu or Glenn would have been cool, and I was originally not happy with the pick but I'm warming up to it. Allen reads as an athletic, movement type guard; a bigger and younger version of Lilja. I think my pick would have been Kendricks though.

I don't think Chris Polk will make it to #74. But, man, that'd be bad ass.

Certainly looks like the Chiefs are planning to move on from Albert next year. I love that the Chiefs are taking big men, I'm just not loving the players.

OL depth is an issue, but I'm not a huge fan of that one. That was a great opportunity to add an impact player.
Can't hate the pick, though. Stephenson is the type of guy that can play both T spots, so that means no more Barry and most people should be happy about that.
