Did you watch Garrard play? He was not very good give me a break. When people think of top quarterbacks, or rather when they though of the top quarterbacks last year Garrard wasn't one of them. Game managing your way to a quarterback rating over 90 doesn't mean you're a good quarterback. It's not surprising he's still a free agent.

I loved how Fangio used Willis today. He blitzed a lot and was very disruptive. I'm very pleased with our passrush in general. Getting a ton of pressure. I've been dreaming of that for years.

Our OL has really improved. By far our worst unit on the team in the first 3 weeks, the last 4 they've been playing like a top 10 unit. Opening up holes in the running game, and giving Smith time on a consistent basis. That's really been a key reason why we've looked so much better these last few weeks. Its moving down my list of our team's biggest needs, although we still could use a long-term option at RG (Kilgore?)

It sounds like Kilgore is the future at OG and Beeler at C.

and his teammates hated him and didn't rally around him because he was constantly throwing them under the bus.

Joe Montana's stats that year:
Code:
No. Age Pos G GS QBrec Cmp Att Cmp% Yds TD TD% Int Int% Lng Y/A AY/A Y/C Y/G Rate Sk Yds NY/A ANY/A Sk%
16 34 QB 15 15 15-2-0 321 520 61.7 3944 26 5.0 16 3.1 78 7.6 7.2 12.3 262.9 89.0 29 153 6.9 6.5 5.3
That includes a 6 touchdown 400+ yard performance against the Falcons.
Sigh...

Well, we cannot improve the team much between then and now, so I'll take what we can get. I was just pissed the game was even that close.

Fans forget how many games had Joe throwing for under 250 yards and one or two touchdowns where the statline wasn't impresssive except for the W that came with it. It was about winning however it had to be done, not stats.
Stats were for the Marino followers.

Man if would have beaten Dallas we would be undefeated so far.But I've been some what stoked about season everything is falling into place ( slight having a good legit QB) I think we could make a run for it.And I say that because most of the teams are crushing Dallas right now.We should have too.Maybe it was too early in the season but meh.

Ness... He's perhaps THE GREATEST QUARTERBACK TO EVER PLAY!!!! And he had many games with numbers under what Alex Smith has done this year. Alex Smith will NEVER be Joe Montana, but accept the fact that he is the QB of a 6-1 team and your non-stop whining won't change ANYTHING!
Let yourself enjoy the fact that the team is winning for once. Why ruin it for yourself? We know you don't like him.

I wasn't the one that first brought up Joe Montana.

This is a young team in the first year of bringing personnel into a new system, worrying about an undefeated season that could have been is a bit much. To just sniff the playoffs under the circumstances Harbaugh/Baalke were dealt is pretty good in most divisions(ours doesn't make it a great feat)
We had fans writing us off after a preseason loss and then again after a loss to the Cowboys. This is just year one where we probably don't have our quarterback or receivers in place and we are possibly going to see a first round playoff bye and a home playoff game. That's a good start.

True, but he did throw for more than 200 and sometimes 300 yards every other time. Obviously Alex Smith will throw for more than 200 yards again, but really, you have to worry a little because if Gore and Hunter get hurt or if the defense doesn't make plays and the run game sucks one day, as a fan I want to have confidence in our quarterback to convert third downs, carry the team on his back and get the win...and be able to do it without a team just giving the contest away (like in Philadelphia).

lol, this stuff is hilarious at this point..we're 6-1 too, amazing how some niner "fans" are having such a tough time with it...it's like there is an internal struggle within some of them...it's actually sad that they can't enjoy it, but it's also unabashedly hilarious.

Oh I'm enjoying it. There is always room for constructive criticism within anything of course.

Same, its been 8 long years. Whats worse is the NFL is the only only league i follow and the 49ers my only team, so sports have sucked for me. I'm so used to incompetence i don't even know what to feel. This team is legit and i have a feeling its going to come down to a NFC Championship game appearance at Lambeau...but thats just my intuition. I'm just going to enjoy the ride!

I wish he would prove me wrong honestly. I would love to eat crow if Alex starting showing he really was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
I'll stop complaining for now. I just have a feeling the quarterback situation is going to be a problem sooner rather than later.

I just re-watched the second half (I missed parts) and Alex seriously misfired on only ONE freaking pass the whole half (long one to Crabtree), MAYBE two (3rd and 14). All this criticism is utterly ridiculous, and quite childish at this point; it reeks of prioritizing individual opinion over actual observation. He only had 12 passing attempts in the entire half lol, two of them were critical drops in the very first drive lol, to place the blame solely on him, or even the majority of the blame on him is amateurish. Done with the QB talk this week, the pseudo-drama is not even worth addressing.
