The fighting in general is pretty meh.
I'm also getting a bit sick of the "go walk from the city to this cave" formula. Don't know why they can't make "combat areas" that aren't random, ancient caves.

You guys are fighting wrong then. Its true that people can just shout for 75+ damage and then shoot 2-4 fireballs at enemies and murder everybody without even swinging a sword, but you can mix it up too. Run around town, see how many random people get killed by the dragon. Maybe try hiding behind one of the invincible children. Drag a few giants or some guards into the fight and then just sit on a bench and watch the dragon fight everybody else.
The combat is 20x better than oblivion. I love the critical and finishing moves. Dragons are scaled to level so they are always ridiculously easy. 4-5 fireballs or ice storms and a couple shouts normally kill them. Maybe a few swings of a sword to finish, but its dead easy. Enchanted smithed bows kill dragons faster than Bard killed Smaug.

That's still all stuff you aren't actually controlling. The stuff you can actually do is still mostly a snoozefest. Besides, that stuff is only amusing the first few times. After that, it loses it's luster.

I'm an archer and I find that it is a tremendous improvement from Oblivion.

I'm rocking an archer/mage hybrid so far and enjoying it.

Stealthy archer build is bad ass. Especially with the slow down time perk when you zoom in. Can drop guys from range before they even know what's going on.

Yeah, archery is where the combat in Skyrim really shines. Although that's not to say I don't like smashing fools with Wuthrad (still have not found an upgrade).

I finally started seriously working on the main quest. I love this game.
I played 40 hours and hadn't even gone after the horn yet.

Yeah, I was at 40 and decided to go ahead and do all the Stormcloak stuff and finish the main story (54 now). I wonder how quickly I could blow through the main quest line from a clean start...
Not sure if I'll keep playing on this character or start a fresh one.
I don't think this is a real spoiler, but just some hindsight...
And...

So my wife in the game was cheating on me, so I followed the dude into the woods, turned into a werewolf and brutally murdered him. Felt badass.

Between school and work I thought I wouldn't have anywhere near that many hours at this point, but considering it's pretty much the only thing I do when I am home now, I'm probably right up around there.

I just spend the last 90 minutes talking to people in Whiterun and I'm still only half way through the town!

I decided to start making new characters. I played a little bit as khajit assassin, dual wielding daggers, sneaking up behind people and slittling throats is fun.

70 hours in now. Level 42. Still much to do, having a blast. Haven't even really started up the main quest, but I'm done all the guilds except for the Mage one. My favorite quests are probably the Daedric ones, those always end up being a lot of phone. One quest in particular stands out to me right now, still finishing it up, don't want to say too much so I don't ruin it.

How far are you into the main quest? I'm thinking about stopping the main quest and doing all the other stuff first as well. It seems more fun that way.
