Ahh offensive coordinator hate. couple bad play calling games and he's garbage? He's done wonders with Dalton IMO, who wasn't anything near an ELITE prospect.

Stop.
He's had a couple good ones.
The rest are garbage or just plain average.

Ok you can have him. Just in the biggest game of the year he will refuse to get the ball in the hands of your best play maker and have your receivers run the same 5 routes the entire game.

Love has some shortcomings but he is still a really good coach. He is a good vet coach. He can coming to the Texans and be instantly respected by the players.

It sucks that Wade Phillips is gone though. I'd love get him to run my defense. He is a great DC.

That's Andy's fault.
You know, it's probably his fault that we gave up running the ball even though it was working that game too.

You think the OC is going to tell Andy to purposely throw the ball away from one of the best receivers in the game? I know it's easier to just blame the OC, but let's be realistic. Dalton is the one making the reads, making the throws. He controls who he throws it to. If the first read is AJ and he's double covered, he might just throw it somewhere else because he's not talented enough to make that throw consistently. And I doubt Gruden refuses to call deep passes either. If Dalton sees someone partially open going deep, he's probably going to think twice about throwing it, because he isn't good. The OC needs to take into account his players strengths and weaknesses when calling plays. If you want a better passing game, get a better quarterback. Changing the OC isn't going to have anywhere near the amount of change you think it would, based on the amount of hate they get. They're pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, people just moan about coordinators to deflect criticism away from the players.

Coordinators can be good and can be bad, if you have a bad one you should get a good one, but the amount of blame they get is never warranted.

Sometimes we have to take a step back and just blame the players. Look I'm guilty of it too. I blame the coaches all the time bc quite honestly, it's a cop out. It's easier to replace the coaches than the players so they're an easy target.

It's not like Gruden has been there for years and his schemes are stale. Just last year we were beating his drum about how great he is.

If we're all going to be completely honest with ourselves, how many of us are actually pleased with the OC on our team? I bet if we took a poll, we'd have about 25 teams that hate their OC.

So you're telling me all those OCs are terrible? No way. We're just being fans.

The OC is the easiest scapegoat in the league. Last year Kyle Shannahan is a genius. This year he's a turd. Ditto for Gruden. Notice how most of the hot coaching candidates are coordinators for units with great talent? Like Gus Bradley? Did Seattle miss a beat when he left? How much of it was really Gus Bradley vs all world talent?

I'm not going to say that Coordinators are faultless and it's all on the players because that's not accurate either, but let's take a step back and realize that sometimes it's not all the coordinator.

Technically Wade is not gone, and if they hired Lovie he could still keep Wade on as his DC and run a 3-4. Remember Tomlin was a Tampa 2 guy but elected to keep DL as they had the personnel for the scheme and he had chemistry with his defensive players, possible Lovie chooses to go the same route.

Was it his fault that Andy missed 2 passes to AJ to win the game too?

Andy was awful in that game.

Tomlin and Dick were a good match. Dick credits Tomlin with helping fill some flaws that he had in coverages for his defense over his career. It has been a very good match.

Yea he was bad, but some of the fault has to go to the OC that refused to get AJ the ball till the 3rd quarter which left Dalton throwing to a rookie WR, a TE that dropped everything that game and 5'7 WR. You also have to realize how many bad situations that Gruden leaves Dalton in to make bad decisions. You know how many 3 and longs the Bengals have had this year because Gruden would try and run to the outside with BJGE for negative yards or 1 yard. Bottom line is Gruden deserve as much of the blame that Dalton gets.

I know its possible but Wade is interviewing also and it's a rare that a guy who gets rejected sticks around. It's not a scheme thing to me. Him staying I'd what's best for the team but a new coach might not want a well liked former guy to undermine him in authority.

If Wade goes 0-3 does he still even go through with the interview?

I want Mike Zimmer in Tennessee. He fits the profile for the type of head coach I like.

You know how many 3 and longs the Bengals have had this year because Gruden would try and run to the outside with BJGE for negative yards or 1 yard. Bottom line is Gruden deserve as much of the blame that Dalton gets.
Right. We just love starting drives with those BJGE runs to ensure our 3rd&5+

You think if the Bengals swapped Dalton with Peyton Manning that would have the same effect as swapping Gruden for the best OC in the league (whoever that is)?

Seeing as Peyton Manning is his own OC. It does not matter who the OC is for Peyton Manning will just check out of the play.

I am not saying Dalton would be a elite QB if he had a different OC. He is average-good at best. Just saying Jay Gruden is a awful play caller and just go back to the article were he admitted he did not want AJ Green to get the ball in the playoff game against Houston. I am sorry I don't care if your Bill Walsh and you game plan not to have your best player get the ball then you should be fired on the spot. Also the fact that he rather have BJGE run the ball outside over Bernard is just mind boggling.

Hey guys, let's use the exception to the rule to try and prove a point!

Look at what Norv has done in Cleveland with Brian Hoyer and Jason Campbell.
1 WR, 1 TE and no RB.

But I'm sure you are willing to say that is all Hoyer and Campbell.

Use another QB then...Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, etc. You think having the best OC in the league instead of Gruden would be as good as having one of those QB's instead of Dalton?

It's not an "exception". I'm not saying OC's don't play a part. But he said "Gruden is as much to blame as Dalton". Implying that an OC is/can be just as responsible for an offenses success as a QB...Which is ridiculous. You're agreeing with him on that?

My only point is that OC's don't have anywhere near the amount of impact people would make you believe. Because everyone moans about them so much and blames them for everything, you'd think they were actually really important to a teams success. When they're not.

And the Browns's offense still sucked with Brandon Weeden at QB...
