On NFL Network last night, Michael Lombardi said that Bengals Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer would be the best candidate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coaching job and that GM Mark Dominik could be holding out til Cincinatti is eliminated in order to pursue Zimmer.

My opinion, he'd be a great fit for this team.

Especially with all the talent on the defense.

True. But you're not going to hit 100% of the time obviously no matter how you go about it - I just think it's pretty clear the recent trend in the NFL is to give guys who are hungry to expand their career a shot, rather than get all hyped up about an average experienced guy who ran his last team, as described by media after he left, with a "country club atmosphere".

Fisher is 53 and has a career winning %. He's going to get another chance with a different franchise.

You're right that it is the recent trend, but it's a boom/bust prospect. The Dolphins and Rams both gave new guys a shot and both failed.

Your right and everyone has to remember that BB was a retread after Cleveland fired him. I think ownership needs to have an open mind and a solid GM who can judge coaching talent.

Maybe he feels like this is the best Andy Dalton will ever be and is trying to get a head coaching as fast possible. I think the titans are the best team he beat unless I am missing a team.

The Bengals are 9-0 against teams that didn't make the playoffs. 0-7 against ones that did.

But seriously, going to Jacksonville to steer the Gabbert trainwreck is a sure way to end up Cam Cameron'ed. A brief, miserable stint and a huge black mark on your coaching resume that will make it hard to get another head job.

Do another year in Cincy and hope for a better opportunity.

Man, stop saying this stuff. Gruden's offense is actually fun to watch. Something we haven't been able to say in Cincinnati for 5+ years

I'm starting to lose faith in ownership and personel. If this happens, then maybe Raheem Morris was never the real problem in Tampa. Maybe they are cheap B*****ds.

Well if he's anything like his brother, he thinks he can turn any crap QB into a gold.

As for Mike Sherman, I think (and really hope) it's just a favor Mark Dominik is doing to his agent (who's also Sherman's) to get Sherman's name involve. Sherman's coaching carreer needs every help it can get. Also, Adam Schefter, who's 1000 times more reliable than LaConfera, doesn't believe the Bucs will hire Sherman.

Said it in a few places, but I'm not really all that broken up about him leaving. The timing of it sucks horribly though, someone being anything aside from 110% focused on trying to win playoff games is a major bummer.

...although I suppose we did it with Charlie in 2004.

Yep. Sucks to see talented guys in the FO leave but that's what happens with success. Well earned for him to

guess that explains why Dorsey declined to speak with Indy about their opening. Maybe he knew that McKenzie would be on the move and he'd be the likely candidate to replace him as Director of Football Ops. in Green Bay

Glad he's going to Oakland and not Chicago, where his name was floated around as a possibility due to his close friendship with Lovie

I'd be shocked if we hired Del Rio. I think Clark Hunt and Scott Pioli are just doing their due diligence, nothing more.

There's retreads and there are washups. Sherman is a washup. Worthless.
I had a much longer rant about Sherman, but didn't want to bore people:

Every step of the way, Sherman failed to hire competent Offensive and Defensive Coordinators (it was more fun to hire his friends!), played conservative when he shouldn't have, threw temper tantrums and shut-down on the sidelines during games, made stupid challenges, and let Favre do whatever the bloody hell he wanted to do (including one hilarious time when Favre ignored doctors, went on the field with a blatant concussion, and threw a 30 yard TD pass to keep his games-with-a-TD streak alive -- all while Sherman had no clue what was going on). For all of this, there are still Packer fans who applaud him, because I guess he was still a better coach than Lindy Infante or Bart Starr, or something...

The silver lining is that Sherman is an absolutely spectacular offensive line coach. He likes them so much that his signature formation involves inserting the backup RT as a TE, so you can have six offensive linemen!

Bucs fans, you should start a petition against this potential hire. You guys deserve better -- this won't be another "coaching retread turns into a three-time Super Bowl champion" story.

Jim Fassel would be a better hire than Sherman. Does Billick not want to coach anymore or nobody wants to hire him?

Per Schefty, Rams receive permission from Cardinals to interview Ray Horton for the HC job. Unusual that a divisonal rival would do that but interesting. I think he has very overmatched at the start of the season but was very good towards the end. But with just one year of calling the defense I think he's way too green for a full time HC job.

Raiders need to can Hueand hire Winston Moss.
Chiefs/NE have permission to speak to McDaniels.
Radio Raheem needs to be the secondary coach in Wash.
