I don't find it absurd that people could have a negative opinion. I find it absurd how incredibly sure of their opinions some people are when they are based almost entirely on ******** evidence.

-The Colts went belly-up when Peyton left
-He accomplished nothing in college
-Joe Flacco completely and utterly regressed this year along with the rest of the Ravens offense

There is no GOOD evidence.

People here like to appear confident with their football knowledge and laugh at teams together. A perfect example of that is the Trent Richardson trade thread.

I think people were laughing more at the fact that Cleveland just took a running back #3 overall and traded him the very next year. It's such a Cleveland move...

Wait until we draft a bust with their pick to complete the Cleveland circle of life.

Caldwell doesn't like to run the ball, ever.

Sell high on Reggie Bush and Joique Bell!

The offensive line was the biggest problem with Baltimore and that affected everything. If Caldwell had anything to do with Flacco's new-found pocket mobility then that is a pretty good plus in his favor. I think I and most other Ravens fans wanted him gone because he just ran the same system that Cameron used with somewhat less stupid play-calling. It's destined to fail. The players don't and never really have fit that style. Caldwell won't be running the offense in Detroit though so I'm not sure how big a deal it is for him not being able to put a scheme together.

You can literally say that about anything and everyone. Soooooo....what's your point?

Other than math. It's hard to debate math. But just about everything else you can say the same ****.

People are allowed to have opinions.

It's completely unfair to discredit his record with Peyton and only focus on how the team did without him.

This holds a little more water, but again we're talking about Wake Forest in the 1990s. I'm not sure how relevant that is to the NFL in 2014.

Or he reverted to the mean, which says that Flacco is a mediocre QB. Again, Caldwell gets no credit for the positive aspects of Flacco, but all of the blame for this year. Why?

Mediocre is high praise for what he did this year. He was great in the playoffs and he deserves credit for that, but he also deserves blame for him failing this year.

Ok. So he's had some successes and failures as a coach. Looking at the pool of candidates the Lions were choosing from, doesn't that apply to pretty much everyone else?

I didn't want a retread. I wanted someone new, or something of that ilk. I knew what's his face from Stanford was incredibly unlikely, but hey, Mike Zimmer might have taken it.

Shouldn't Ozzie Newsome actually get some of the blame for the offense this year (blasphemy I know). They had to sign Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark to play significant snaps this year because of how inadequate their depth was at TE and WR, where Pitta and Jacoby Jones' injuries incredibly limited their ability to produce offensively.

thissss. it's almost impossible to tell if he's a good coach or not looking from the outside. and anyway, a coach's success is almost entirely dependant on the talent of his players. i don't think a coaching hire is something to get too distraught over.

BF just adamantly supports his Cover 2 guys.

He still hasn't accepted the idea that Cover 2 sucks, and probably never will.

I was excited to have Caldwell until he decided he was going to be just as predictable as Cam Cameron. With all of our problems this year we could of really used some creativity and he failed at that. I'm not sure if he will be a good or bad head coach for the Lions but I am happy we are moving on from that chapter.

Why couldn't they hire Perry Fewell?

Come on Cleveland. Do it. For the love of God, hire Perry Fewell. He wants to be a HC so bad.

We're on a message board to discuss football. If we can't do so then what's the point? You form an opinion based on what you've seen in the past and so forth. You should never talk about the Bears then because you don't really know what's going on.

Stokley didn't play any significant snaps this year. Marlon Brown really thrived as a undrafted free agent signing. While Jones was out Stokley got hurt too but then Doss showed up for a bit. After Jones got back he, Smith, and Brown were pretty much the only receivers to see the field. Clark played quite a bit while Pitta was out but he was only supposed to be depth for Dickson. That went out the window after Dickson showed how far he's regressed.

Vikings very likely to hire Mike Zimmer later today. Would leave just the Browns, who want Gase as I've reported
Would have more faith in Zimmer being a HC if Spielman does not force some ****** QB on him.

We put a lot into Tandon Doss this year assuming he was going to step up. We talked about how we had faith in "our guys" before the season started. When Pitta went down we had to get someone who was a proven receiving TE because all of our others guys were blockers. I would agree that Ozzie should of had more options but we weren't expecting our O-line to completely bust.

How come nobody is interested in ARZ DC Todd Bowles for head coach? It wasn't just the offense that improved in Phoenix.

I like Bowles a lot actually. Surprised he hasn't gotten more recognition for the outstanding job he's done. He was highly regarded in Dallas and Miami before he left for Arizona. I think he's going to make a great coach.
