There was a ton of talk earlier this year of NFL execs saying that Les Miles was on a ton of NFL teams' radars, and saying they think he would be a great NFL coach. Must have slowed down a little with LSU's performance in the NC.

Need a QB, go out and recruit one. What they both discovered is that in pro football, without a franchise QB, you cannot win, so they quickly got out and returned to where they could win.
Oh, you forgot to mention Spurrier and Butch Davis, College HC's have a very poor success rate in the pros no matter how successful they were in college unless they had a pro football background before going the college route.
|
I didn't forget to mention them, there are a lot of failures.
That said, the idea that you don't need to be able to coach to win in college football is stupid. Look at UCLA, Texas A&M, Clemson, or other schools that are great at recruiting and lousy/mediocre at actually playing football.

Going slightly off topic here but speaking of college coaches, news is breaking that Joe Paterno is gravely ill and his family are saying their final goodbyes by his bedside.

Well that's no good...this town is going to get ridiculous when he dies. There was a scare 2 summers ago when the police department was put on alert that Paterno had gone to the hospital for a possible stroke.
Edit - Word is he might already be dead. Some of my friends from work are commenting on Facebook about it and CNN has already called asking to use our tv studios.

A lot of ('lifer') coaches die within months of retiring or being fired.
It's definitely sad to see him go like this.

Yeah, many people feel he stayed on the job as long as he has because they feel it was the only thing keeping him alive. Something to put energy into each and everyday and something to be passionate about really does a lot for people. Its too bad.

Poor Sam Bradford can't catch a ******* break. That's terrible news for Rams fans.

The biggest treat with little Schotty are the slants.
3rd and 10, he calls for the slot receiver to run a 7 yard slant that, if he even catches it, can only pick up the 7 yards. He gets met by a CB from behind and a S/LB from the front immediately.
On comes the punt team.

You'll be begging for Arians to come back. I don't know that Caldwell's circuit board is functional enough for him to utilize the WR corps properly.

Will Peyton Manning be their QB? Because that's about the only way they win games with him at OC. (no disrespect to mr Roethlisberger meant)

Not saying it'd be a good hire. Caldwell and Tomlin are like BFFs.

It's not like Bradford would even throw further than that 7 yard slant, so it's a perfect match. Basically, Bradford sucks.

If he had Calvin Johnson he would throw for 4.000.

PORTLAND -- University of Oregon football coach Chip Kelly is reportedly close to signing a deal with the NFL.
Kelly is in the process of finalizing a deal that would make him the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A source close to the situation said Kelly will make the jump to the NFL if he can come to terms on a contract.

I'm certainly not happy with that hire if I'm a Bucs fan, but I'm damn interested to see how his brand of football works in the NFL.
