Comments like this always remind me of how little people actually know about the scheme side of football.
What, specifically, was the downfall of Spurrier's scheme in the NFL? You get three guesses.
Jokingly:
1.) Patrick Ramsey
2.) Patrick Ramsey
3.) Patrick Ramsey
Seriously:
Too many sudden change ups. They'd hum along ok for a little while and then suddenly came the "SHOOT!" part of Run'n'shoot. 5 WR shotgun snap...Ramsey gets killed.
Also, it was Washington under Dan Snyder. That's asking for failure.
Another also, ****** talent. Patrick Ramsey handing to pre-Carolina Steven Davis and Trung Candidate and throwing to...Rod Gardner? I actually can't name any other WRs.

Hahahahhahahhaha
Awesome Simpson's episode too.

You both nailed it.
Spurrier's protection schemes were flawed, and that's what offensive coaches spend the majority of their week tinkering with. So, once Jim Johnson figured out Spurrier's protections, it was over. Dude didn't want to put in the meat-grinder film work that comes with being an NFL coach.
As far as actual concepts go, Spurrier's is actually very NFL-esque (in the Coryell vein). It's a predominantly 2 back system, his base running play is the lead draw, and his PA pass game is based off of lead-draw action. The route concepts are very Coryell-ish. Now, he kinda got away from the 2 back offense and into more spread sets in his last few years at Florida (and that carried over to the NFL). But I believe Spurrier has gone back to his 2-back roots in SC with Lattimore.
It's funny, because Spurrier was viewed as a laughing stock in the NFL by most fans/analysts because of his "system," yet Joe Gibbs never fared any better.
Perception is everything, I suppose.
His system, however, has become outdated/figured out/etc. A more modern version of it is what Petrino is doing in Arkansas. That's why I always chuckle when people spout off about "Petrino system QBs." It's about as pro-style as you're going to get in college.
Mike Holmgren: 9-4, three NFCCG appearances, two SB appearances, one SB Win. Mike Sherman: 2-4, not **** else. Mike McCarthy: 2-1, NFCCG appearance, one play from the SB. Brad Childress: 1-1, NFCCG appearance, one play from the SB.
Under Mike Sherman: 2-4, never advanced past the second round of the playoffs. Under everybody else: 12-6, 5 NFCCG Appearances, 2 SB appearances.
This is the latest entry in my daily edition of "Mike Sherman is an Incompetent Head Coach."
Per Adam Schefter Former Packers HC Mike Sherman is 1st candidate to be asked to interview for Tampa Bay Buccaneers HC job for a second time, per NFL source.

Right on!!!
I think every HC who came from college and failed can be blamed on their QB's. In college, they just went out and recruited one, in the pros they realized they are tough to come by.

I bet you are enjoying this news Diab! I hope for my sake this is just Sherman's agent pimping his client.
Bengals DB Coach Kevin Coyle interviewing with Mimai for DC job.
He does a good job getting the best out of his players.
Especially when there is talent in said players.
Unfortunately, with how things went this year, we just had no talent.

Raiders have identified Broncos DC Dennis Allen as the leading candidate to become their next HC. Raiders told other candidates they're out.
Dennis Allen sure did a great job with a marginally talented Denver defense. I would be interested to see how he does as HC in Oakland. It will be very important to see which coordinators he hires.

I was baffled when the Browns let the best special teams coach in the game walk. It would be crazy to see a special teams coach get a head job, that would be a rare occurrence.

Yeah, Seely is def the best ST coach in the NFL, he turned our ST's into a beast this year.
It would be a pretty rare occurrence for a ST coach to get a HC job right away. Only one i can remember is John Harbaugh.

Raiders will be interviewing Broncos DC Dennis Allen tonight, and could be offered the job to become the new Head Coach according to multiple sources. No other interviews have been scheduled past today and some candidates have been told they have been ruled out of the race.
Allen would likely bring the similar defense the Broncos are used last season. A 4-3 defense with stand up pass rushers, look out for Kamerion Wimbley to have a potential career year if he stays on Oakland.

I still think the Raiders are a complete wild card when it comes to their players and base defense/offense.
Allen's X's and O's don't seem to be too important to him so I don't even know if he would be set on a 4-3 defense. It will all come down to who he hires for coordinators. And McKenzie has made it clear that he is looking at every single player. High-priced, older guys like Seymour, Kelly and Wimbley could all be out the door in the next 5 weeks.
Even if Allen is the hire (and I wouldn't be incredibly disappointed if he is), we will know very little about the direction of the Raiders.
