I want to see what this defense could've been like if Dareus didn't declare. Just for the hell of it.

If anything, Bama winning validates the BCS. LSU was clearly the best team in college football throughout the regular season especially looking back at their dominating wins over Oregon and West Virginia. The #2 team, who some people felt didn't deserve to be there, came in and proved they were the best team in college football. In theory, the purpose of the BCS is to have the two best teams play against each other so they can declare a definitive national champion and it did just that this year. I'm not advocating the BCS over a playoff at all but this game didn't expose the flaws in the BCS - it did just the opposite.

I see what you did there, but honestly, typing There're is actually harder than typing the real thing, not to mention it means using real words that make you sound intelligent(which you generally are!)

I agree that this validates the BCS if anything, Bama for mine were the best team in the country all year, they outplayed but lost to LSU and because of the system they got a shot at the title and were able to prove it. If anything, the way that the BCS failed was putting LSU in that bowl game, they earned it but I still don't think they were actually a clear cut 2nd best team, I think they got Bama spot on though.

That said, a playoff would have solved my personal problem here, it would have given Stanford/Ok. St a chance to knock out LSU and then lose to Bama. Would still have left Arkansas being unfairly punished for playing in the SEC.

I actually wish there was some kind of realistic system to determine a best.

The best I can actually think of would be that each conferences top ranked teams must play each other for the non-conference games. So this year Oklahoma, Ok. St and Texas A&M would have had to play LSU, Bama and South Carolina in some way during the season. The BCS conferences would have to play 2-3 conferences and it would rotate similar to the way the divisions do in the NFL.

Would actually love to see a system like that where you get rid of the pathetic cup cake games, make some massive interconference games, which would operate as tie breakers in the even of tied teams(so if the SEC wins 2 of 3 in the above scenario, it would be Bama, Big 12 it would have been Okie St).

But this would punish those cupcake schools who rely on getting their asses smashed to grow the program and get money and I bet the big schools would hate it because they'd have to play real games. Still it's the best system I can think of without completely revolutionising the whole setup. The other losers would be teams like Boise St who wouldn't get a realistic chance to play and beat the top teams and probably Notre Dame who would have a hard time scheduling their big rivalry games, which I guess could be over come by only having 2 of the pre determined games.

No one can say 'for certain' but it's pretty evident that Bama and LSU were just on a different level than everyone else this year.

I dont necessarily think that OSU would beat either of these teams but they would definitely score on them. They would give up more points (obviously) because they dont have the size to stop them, but they would definitely put it in the endzone more than once.

Why does having 8 first rounders on a team make them the best collage defense of all time?

Bama D this year held teams to less than 8.8 points a game... Number 1 in the Pass/Rush Etc... Dude Bama was lights out good. Were taking Mike Tyson left hook lights out.

I posted earlier I like the idea of a playoff based on both rankings and conference champions. You wouldn't want the playoffs to be too long, though; an extra month of football is a lot for kids who are in college. There are 11 conferences in 1-A football, so you could take those conference champions and then the next-5 highest ranked teams that aren't conference champions to fill out the field. I think 16 is a pretty good number. Maybe have the top 6 take a bye week while the 5 wildcard teams play the lower 5 conference champions... but that'd be kind of a mess to have 5 games. I'm not sure how you'd do byes, or if you'd just seed them and do 8 games, 4 games, a semi final and then a championship game.

For this year, it would've looked like this: (I just went ahead and used the BCS rankings)

Seeding based on rank as Conference Champions:
1. LSU - SEC Champion (#1)
2. Oklahoma State - Big 12 Champion (#3)
3. Oregon - PAC-12 Champion (#5)
4. Wisconsin - Big 10 Champion (#10)
5. Clemson - ACC Champion (#15)
6. TCU - Mountain West Champion (#18)
7. Southern Mississippi - CUSA Champion (#21)
8. West Virginia - (Tied for Big East, but #23 ranking provides the tiebreaker.)
9. Arkansas State - Sun Belt Champions 10-2 record
10. Northern Illinois - MAC Champions 11-3 record
11. Louisiana Tech - WAC Champions, 8-4 record

Wildcard teams:

12. Alabama (#2)
13. Stanford (#4)
14. Arkansas (#6)
15. Boise State (#7)
16. Kansas State (#8)

Then the 1st seed would play the 16th seed and so on until you get to the championship game. It'd be great. You know inevitably some MAC team would beat a team that had been riding high in the polls all year. You'd get to see the top third or so of the top-25 battle it out for a championship. You'd guarantee that schools from all conferences would get a chance to play for a championship (more importantly, are not excluded from playing for a championship), while still making sure the best of the best make the playoffs with the wildcard seeding. The polls would still matter.

And just because I'm bored, I'm going to play it out pick 'em style.

Round One:

LSU (#1) vs. Kansas State (#8) - LSU advances.

Oklahoma State (#3) vs. Boise State (#7) - Oklahoma State advances.

Oregon (#5) vs. Arkansas (#6) - Arkansas advances.

Wisconsin (#10) vs. Stanford (#4) - Stanford advances.

Clemson (#15) vs. Alabama (#2) - Alabama advances.

TCU (#18) vs. LTU (NR) - TCU advances.

Southern Miss (#21) vs. Northern Illinois (NR) - Southern Miss advances.

West Virginia (#23) vs. Arkansas State (NR) - West Virginia advances.

Round Two:

LSU (#1) vs. West Virginia (#23) - LSU advances.

Oklahoma State (#3) vs. Southern Miss (#21) - Oklahoma State advances.

Arkansas (#6) vs. TCU (#18) - Arkansas advances.

Stanford (#4) vs. Alabama (#2) - Stanford Advances.

Semifinal Round:

LSU (#1) vs. Stanford (#4) - Stanford advances.

Oklahoma State (#3) vs. Arkansas (#6) - Arkansas advances.

National Championship:

Stanford (#3) vs. Arkansas (#6) - Stanford wins.

That would be really fun to watch. Probably some problems with the seeding method. But I don't know. You still probably saw the best two teams play each other, it was just in the second round instead of the last game.
