Every year, after the Bush/Leinart years, it seems like USC was the "greatest defense ever???"

The best, though, was when Harbaugh trolled them as the "best CFB team ever" and then beat them as 40 point underdogs.

Just as an aside, the Alabama defense only played one team ranked inside the top 84 offenses in CFB.

Yes, they are very good. No, they are not the greatest ever.

I've never said once or implied that they are, if that was directed at me. They're an awesome D, but that was way more about Les Miles being inept.

Well when you have Brian Cushing,Rey Maualuga,Keith Rivers,Sedrick Ellis,Taylor Mays,(elite in college) Terrell Thomas, Fili Moala and others on one defense in college it's pretty special.

Yea, they looked like the best defense of all time when a freshman on an unranked team dropped almost 200 rushing yards on them and dominated them all night.

Remember when USC was all ready to face OSU in the title game but then lost to a bad UCLA team? That opened the door for UF to make it in, and even though almost everyone thought OSU was gonna dominate them, the Gators completely outclassed the Buckeyes, starting this whole era of SEC domination.

So blame USC.

USC would've demolished OSU too. :/

I'm with you though. What a tough loss!

I dunno how you can proclaim that USC would demolish anyone, since every year for about 5 years they were known to blow it against someone that had no business playing with them.

Though they usually did really put the wood to OSU, hahaha.

Because they always pulled the same trend. They played down to competition, but Pete sure knew how to get the team ready for a Bowl game(minus 05 rose bowl*ugh*) That Michigan team that OSU had trouble against, USC came out and cleaned them up easily in the Rose Bowl.

USC defeated OSU back to back years as well. I think they had Tressel's card. ;)

Yeah. I wouldnt be too down on the Trojans for that whole decade really. they were 6-1 in major bowls in a seven year period and would have beat Texas had Reggie Bush not tried to act like a complete fool out there.

I think their defenses were right there with this Alabama defense, which cant be inducted into the college HOF based on beating an LSU team with the worst major bowl QB in my memory.

If you can't laugh at yourself, then whom can you laugh at?

The best part will be when OSU misses the B1G champ game this next season and a BCS bowl.

The Pac-10 and Big-10 were both hot garbage during that period. I thought USC was wildly overrated in their heyday, and think both the recent Florida and Bama NC teams would easily handle any team USC put out on the field, but I would have paid a ******** of money to watch it.

Here's the problem with the conference pissing contest: is the SEC absolutely the most dominant conference top to bottom year in and year out? No. Is their best team usually way better than any other conferences' top team? I'd say yes, quite comfortably. Those defenses (especially the Bama and UF ones) destroyed everything in sight.

Say what you want about Bama not playing any good offenses this year, but it's basically the same one that one the NC game two years ago (minus Rolando and Cody). So that excellent defense with an extra two years of experience, weight training, etc. Monster unit.

Cant see how you could say those Florida and Alabama teams would handle the 2004 and 2005 teams easily. USC beat an undefeated Oklahoma team in the orange bowl something like 55-17.

Hard to compare differant teams, i'll certainly give anyone that, but the pro-style offense that USC was running when Leinart was there is just a whole differant type of dynamic to deal with as opposed to what LSU ran out there the other night.

Not like it's a football discussion about a football game or anything, but when your grasping for straws....

You still have to be academically eligible, yes I realize how easy that can be done now a days and how much help/cheating athletes get/do to pass, but some still don't make the cut even with all that.

I don't care about any of that either on the football field. Unless this debate turned into trying to grade schools on an all-around level. It's just annoying to see people get mad for some reason so let's try and knock the SEC anyway possible. Like you would have turned your nose up at any of those big time SEC athletes if they came out west. Gtfoh with that.
I'm not bitter or mad..I don't have any real allegiance to any specific school...but i hate how sec nutthuggers have that "greater than you" attitude

Very fair point. Florida absolutely smacked Oklahoma in the mouth (defensively), but were pretty sloppy on O except for Harvin. On the other hand, you have to figure that the Tebow/Percy spread-option would be unlike anything USC ever had to defend. Oregon was ok, but they were still in the early phases, hadn't completely switched over to it, and didn't have near the talent to fit it like they do now. 04 USC vs 08 UF would actually be a hell of a matchup. Haden and Jenkins vs. Jarrett and Smith would be awesome.

The entire conference pissing contest is dumb, IMO. And, really, it wouldn't exist without the BCS making teams/fans feel like they have to root for their rivals to do well so it props them up by default. Stupid system.
