I won't pretend I know the precise amounts of mumbo-jumbo the league tosses into that particular cauldron, to be honest. I believe playing time and contract are the big factors. But, is it playing time from previous seasons, or playing time in the year they're signed by a new team? If it's $$$ and PT for the new team, then it's safe to assume the Pack will get a 3rd, as some team will pay him fairly well and hand him the keys. However, I think there's something in that mumbo-jumbo that factors "quality of players lost vs. quality of players acquired" as well. That isn't likely to matter, though, since TT doesn't go wild in FA.

Cassel had a full season of play, showed marked improvement from game 1 to game 16, and had a solid winning percentage. He was worth a second and even that took the addition of an aging but studly OLB thrown in.

Keep in mind that there was talk about Flynn as a potential franchise quarterback for a team before he even started against New England last season. Holmgren reportedly inquired about trading for him prior to this season, but Green Bay wanted to keep a good backup option in place. While he certainly has a small sample size, his performance against Detroit isn't the only reason teams are interested in Flynn. I think there is a strong market for Flynn considering the number of teams that could use a quarterback and may not feel confident about getting one in the first round.

That said, I don't think Flynn ultimately gets tagged.

Tag Flynn cuz that would be stupid and I hate the Packers and wanna see them do something stupid. That being said the Packers don't do anything stupid. I hate the Packers for getting rid of my boy Brett. And unfortunately, that wasn't stupid either. So the reason I hate them was even smart. So they'll tag Finley.
