RT @JosinaAnderson: Stanford Routt's agent William Vann McElroy told me, "Stanford already has visits planned with Buffalo and Tennessee."

Some other potential targets for Steelers restructuring and/or cuts.

Quote:
Here’s a list of the large Steelers salaries that could be trimmed down, one way or another: tackle Willie Colon ($4.5 million); linebacker Larry Foote ($3 million); nose tackle Casey Hampton ($4.89 million); linebacker James Harrison ($5.565 million); guard Chris Kemoeatu ($3.577 million); quarterback Ben Roethlisberger ($11.6 million); offensive lineman Jonathan Scott ($2.2 million); defensive end Aaron Smith ($2.1 million); and receiver Hines Ward ($4 million).
They really need to watch doing too many more restructurings because they're just going to wind up back in this same spot in another year or two.

I've heard that Aaron Smith is likely to retire, so his will be gone.

I'd also just straight up cut Hampton and Ward. If no one else signs them, then bring them back later for the vet minimum.

Ward, Hampton, Kemoeatu and Foote will likely be cut. One of Colon or Scott as well.

Well Ben isn't the smartest guy in the world. And he barely sticks to the called plays anyway. It's not a good match. I like Haley a lot, but this is a poor fit. He won't go for improvisation from Ben and Tomlin's cheerleading/chest bumping on the sideline.

I will be the loudest one when people starting laughing at the Steelers eventual collapse from all of this.

Pittsburgh fans are going to lose their ****. They better hope Crosby is healthy by then. The only thing that saved them the last time the Steelers missed the playoffs was that the Penguins did well.

I don't understand the hire at all. After their old OC *retired*, they claimed to be going back to their smash mouth run-the-ball roots.
Then they hire Haley... one does not equal the other

He tried at the beginning to be smash mouth, but when you dont have the OL or RBs to do it, plus one of the best WRs in the game, he switched it.

From what I've read recently, he was fired for some behind-the-scenes things too. Clashed with FO and Tomlin at times, granted Ben way too much freedom when it came to run the offense, leaked more info to the media than he should've.

Haley will be the opposite of Arians when it comes to letting Ben control the offense, which is what I feel was the main reason Arians was fired. And by the way Ben has reacted to the change, there might be some substance to it.

Improvisation is one of Ben's biggest strengths though, and the team as it stands now isn't in great position to suddenly get back to smashmouth football like ownership and the fanbase wants.

You've got a lot of good young receivers and a QB who is best with improvisation and making plays out of nothing. I don't think Haley is a fit at all for that.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-contract-too/

Add Ike Taylor to the Steeler's restructure list. $3.28 million guaranteed pushed into the future.

That's now $15 million pushed forward between 3 guys.

They've basically got to win it all now because in a few years, they're going to be in early 2000s Titans level of cap hell.

And rebuilding on the fly is insanely difficult.

To be honest, player wise its smart to push forward guarenteed money. Especially if your single.

While with the team you get food, clothes, and other basic needs. You could easily live off the vet minimum. And if you get cut/later on, you have extra money to live with no matter what.

It's fantastic for the players, no doubt. Not even because of that, but because it takes non-guaranteed money and makes it guaranteed.

But it's going to be a pain in the ass for the team down the line when these cap hits do come up and there's not more restructuring to do and you can't cut the guy because you've already paid him in guaranteed money, so it won't save you anything.

It'll just end up as dead money. But I thought after 2014 win they have a floor dead money won't count against them.

I don't think that's how it works. Actually, I think it's the opposite of that.

I recall one of the things in the CBA saying the the floor has to be actual money spent. Like, there were quite a few years where teams were paying well below the old floor in terms of what they were actually spending on the players that season because they had so much dead money.

It won't be as bad as you guys think. The Steelers are a great drafting team. They'll slowly build up their team through the draft and they won't miss a beat on the field.

Some teams seem to never be in rebuilding mode. The Steelers are one of those teams, and it's bc of their ability to draft.

They'll have a lot of dead money in 3 years, but the product on the field will be just fine.

Won't there be like $15 million more in cap room next off-season due to a new NFL deal? I read somewhere it's expected to climb go $135 million or something like that. If that's the case, then all these restructures wont be as big an issue.

I truly, truly hope you are wrong BBD because nothing would please more (alright, there are a few things like Packers sucking or Tim Tebow being out of football that would be better) than to see the Steelers suck for a while.

My friends and coworkers who are all Steeler fans could not comprehend being a lousy team. I'd love to see how they react. They're so ******* spoiled with success.

A decade of suck would sooooooo nice to watch them go through.

It's expected to be $121-125 million this year. I'm not sure it jumps another $10 million in just two years, especially since high rookie contracts are no longer absurd.

Yeah, I wouldn't bet on it. Maybe for a year or two, but not much longer. They have a better young core, especially offensively, than people think.

You're probably right, but I'm going to continue hoping. Even one like 5-11 season would probably cut it. I just want to see them squirm.
