Oh because that matters. They had a ton of cap room post-lockout and all they managed to sign was Michael Koenen for way too much.

I wish Chucky was here to tell me how every FA would want to go to Tampa.

Plenty of front office people have already reiterated that we will be bigger* players in free agency this year. It's not like we have shown we won't give out big contracts either. Last year the priority was clearly retaining Davin Joseph and the monstrous contract he got proved that - also Quincy Black for some reason. We've thrown money at plenty of other players in the past too ala Jeff Faine/Donald Penn etc so I expect Tampa to land one big name FA this offseason. We also don't have any of our own free agents who are in dire need of a big/new contract.

I'll believe it when I see it. The Bucs always seem to have cap room and outside of signing Jeff Faine, they really have not done a damn thing outside of random extensions and so forth.

Signing free agents is important sometimes, but our biggest signings of the past two offseasons were Donald Penn and Davin Joseph - both of whom are extremely important pieces of our offense and easily our two best lineman. Priority was clearly on retaining our few great players rather than losing them and signing someone from another team. This year any good players from Tampa who are FA's are restricted or exclusive rights.

I'm not proclaiming the FA champion is going to be the superbowl champion. History has taught otherwise -cough eagles cough-.

But if a good team can add 1-3 impact guys to get them over the hump it could be significant.

Houston is a prime example of that.

The Giants signed Steve Weatherford, David Carr, Deon Grant and David Baas going into this season. Not much else needs to be said.

Richard Seymour's entire $15 mill contract just became guaranteed. So much for going all in.

I saw that and just rolled my eyes.

At least it only goes one more year. Then he can walk and you save everything.

Don't forget Kevin Boothe! Reese got KILLED in the offseason for stating that Kevin Boothe was our priority signing while Philly went out and got everybody.

Boothe was vital to our run. I'm never going to question Jerry Reese ever again.

Ha, ok.

I'll remember that when he makes the first questionable signing or draft pick of the year.

Touche.

I will say this, if he doesn't get a LB, I'm going to be upset. We need a linebacker dammit.

You'll sign like, Joe Mays and then be staring at, like, Luke Kuechly in the draft but instead draft another DE.

You will then have an ATL style breakdown filled with the most foul expletives imaginable.

ATL rants are the stuff of legend. I love the draft and I love love love the weekly threads.

Not that I want the Falcons to lose or for ATL to be unhappy, but his rants are amazing.

"Giants sign LB Joe Mays!"

Me: Well, I guess this is their "priority free agent signing" for this year.

BBD: No, he's just a backup option. Has some starting experience. Good backup plan. We'll still draft someone.

Me: (posts article where Jerry Reese calls Mays his priority free agent signing)

BBD: No, backup plan. Positive thoughts. We'll still draft someone.

--SEVERAL WEEKS LATER--

Draft: "And the Giants are now on the clock."

BBD: Gotta be Kuechly. I can't believe he's even available. This is such a slam dunk pick....why are they taking so long? JUST PICK KUECHLY! NEED AND VALUE!! WHY ARE THEY TAKING SO LONG!!!

Draft: "There has been a trade, the Philadelphia Eagles now have the 32nd pick. With the 32nd pick, the Philadelphia Eagles select LB Luke Kuechly, Boston College."

BBD:

No no, I've got it.

Not Joe Mays...DAN CONNOR!

Wasn't there some thing...years ago...where the Giants fans here had some kind of strong opinion about Dan Connor to the Giants? I forget which side they were on though...perhaps someone could refresh my memory?

And on that same note...wasn't Brian Bulaga supposed to go to the Chiefs? What ever happened to that?

That rule is actually news to me. I have no idea how that one is going to work...I'm a little surprised it isn't being talked about more. That could be a HUGE deal for a number of teams.

I hated Dan Connor. I'd be so pissed if we get Dan Connor.

Stay the **** away from my team you Penn State piece of ****.

Me too. He's old, he's hurt and he is good for at least a couple boneheaded personal fouls every other game. I think he's been ejected from a game every single year with the Raiders. Tommy Kelly completely outplayed him last year. He's maybe worth half his salary. I would rather move Houston inside next to Kelly and move forward with the defensive line. Seymour at $15 million? Are you ******** kidding me?
