Something I've been wanting for years now. Now more camera showing the guy on the phone, no more announcing who the pick will be ahead of time......there may actually be some suspense in the draft this year.
No more advance announcements ..... except to the NFL Network, if I readthat right. Like the Draft it's 100% owned by the league. Eisner & Mayock now can scoop Schefter & Mortenson on the picks.

onejayhawk is also trolling the FootballsFuture.com forums with posts about Weeden being a first round pick. He's making the same exact "Start by assuming that you've evaluted Weeden as having top-10 talent..." arguments that he's making here.

Doesn't his contract specify that he can't hold out, or else something like 3 super cheap option years kick in? I thought that was a major part of his last contract renegotiation.

Best we can do is Chad Hennings? Barry Sanders announcing for Detroit, but the best we can get is Chad Hennings? I guess it's better then Michael Irvin and his bright red veiny coke eyes.

Yeah, the last three years of his seven year deal will void if he doesn't hold out. His problem is the money over the next two years. He averaged something like $16 Million per year during the first two years of the deal, and that drops to about $7 Million per year over the last two years.

I'm all for players getting their money while they can, and if I were the Jets then I'd negotiate with him in good faith; but I'd be damned tempted to just let him sit at home if he tries to hold out again.

But he knew that when he signed the contract. You can't ***** about getting paid less in the final years when you chose to take your money up front. He agreed to a $46 million contract, and he'll make every penny of it if he honors his contract. He has no right to be unhappy with his contract. Sure even if you average it to $12 million a year he's a bit underpaid, but wait two years when he hits free agency and he'll be the highest paid defensive player in NFL history, and will make way more than if he resigns now. You can't pull this **** every two years.

*I know you basically agree, not trying to argue with you, just expanding.

I know this is insignificant compared to other nonsense, but Paul Hornung is also too high on that list.

Quote:
There is a holdout clause that basically penalizes Revis if he tries to hold out any time before 2013
Quote:
Referring to that holdout clause, reportedly if Revis holds out, the four-year deal becomes a seven-year deal, and that’s why there have been conflicting media reports about whether it’s a four or seven-year deal. If Revis does not hold out a single day, he will be in store for another new contract after 2013.
Another take :

Quote:
What have the Jets done to guard against Revis deciding at some point during the next four years that he wants more money than he’s due to receive, and that he’ll holdout for a third time in his NFL career?

Per a league source, the widely-reported trio of voidable years, covering 2014, 2015, and 2016, hinges on one thing. A holdout.

If Revis doesn’t hold out, the three extra years (with total compensation, we’re told, in the neighborhood of $9 million) go away. If he holds out, the three years remain.

As a practical matter, we’re not sure it will matter. After Revis pockets $32.5 million for the first two years and when he’s staring at $13.5 million in total pay for two years, we think he won’t be deterred by the voidable years or anything else if the Jets haven’t given him a retirement contract.

But if he does finish out the four years at $46 million, he’ll be a truly unrestricted free agent. The source says that the deal prevents the use of the franchise tag or the transition tag upon completion of the deal.

I'm all for players getting their money while they can, and if I were the Jets then I'd negotiate with him in good faith; but I'd be damned tempted to just let him sit at home if he tries to hold out again.

He should just shut his pie hole right now about money and play this year, show up to everything and keep those voidable years. At least once this year is out he can then attempt to sit down and work out a new deal in the next offseason and request a deal that makes him the highest paid defensive player in the league. At least then the Jets are backed up against the wall, because if they cannot meet his demands then he plays out the year before hitting the open market and they lose him all together for nothing, so they would be much more inclined to get a deal done.

After this year he'd have made just 40 million for the last 3 years, not seeing how he could complain. That is still more averaged out over those 3 years than Finnegan or Carr will make for just this year.

Vikings signed WR Jerome Simpson per Jay Glazer.
