So Donald Washington was arrested for drunk driving and having weed in his car. What an idiot.
I didn't think he would make the 53 this year anyway, but now I'd be shocked if he was on the roster for another week.

Even if you count 61 (including PS players) *32 + IR/PUP it's easily 2000 players during the season. Overall it's still less than 1 percent of all NFL players.

I just found a site that has every NFL player arrest since 2000. The total is 603 (the last arrested they have is from June 23). So that is 50 per year. NFL teams only have 53 players. They can have 90 during training camp, but those don't really count. So really it's about 1920 players. That is 2.6% arrested average per year. That really is a high amount, even if it doesn't seem like it.

This. It's why I didn't assume he was drunk at all when he hid da canadien in Buffalo with his big ass SUV. That said how do we know he was sober when he drove the golf cart?

Anthony Davis, at least in my opinion, gets a bad rap. The progress he made from year 1 to year 2 was incredible. He has an absolutely nasty demeanor which I find beyond beneficial in the trenches. He can be dominant in the run game, and improved leaps-and-bounds in pass pro. The majority of his major lapses came with Chilo Rachal inside. The teams glaring weakness has been RG. Any improvement at the position (Alex Boone, Joe Looney, Daniel Kilgore) should generate improvement from Davis as well. And the big thing with Davis... He's only freakin' 22 years old.
And what's up with every single thread turning into a Rutgers argument? :P

I like how you posted a picture of him committing a penalty while defending him.

Absolutely a penalty. A penalty that is uncalled on nearly every play from scrimmage.
Is it ironic that you're a Lion's fan with a Suh avatar? Fitting.

That has what to do with the fact that Davis is making an illegal play on Cliff Avril?

Hands to the face should have been called. It happens on 30% of plays so everyone shut up.

I don't know, that still seems to be lower than the general population in the US: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125851115456653127.html
Then again, adjusting for education and income, I suspect that the 2.6% number looks a lot worse. Most NFL players have at least three years of college, and all of them earn greater than $100k.

Trying to understand the logic... On DC, one cannot defend a player's ability if there is visual proof he has once committed a common penalty?
It's the best picture I found. You guys create drama when it doesn't exist. But I'm a 49ers fan so I'm sure it's my fault.

Based on his statistics, it's pretty hard to argue that Davis is even an average offensive tackle. It's probably too soon to call him a bust, but he'll have to show significant improvement next year in order to justify his draft spot; he grades out in the bottom 25% of offensive tackles over the past two years and was selected with the 11th overall pick. Have a look:
2010:
Median / Davis
Median OT penalties: 6 / 12
Median OT sacks: 4.5 / 11
Median OT hits: 4.5 / 11
Median OT pressures: 23.5 / 37
Median total OT blown protections: 32.5 / 59
Running behind Davis: 33 attempts, 114 yards (3.5), 2 TD (71 yards after contact)
2011:
Median OT penalties: 6.5 / 8
Median OT sacks: 5 / 8
Median OT hits: 4.5 / 4
Median OT pressures: 22 / 30
Median total blown protections: 31.5 / 42
Running behind Davis: 41 attempts, 118 yards (2.9), 1 TD (86 yards after contact)

Also, keep in mind that Davis is a right tackle, meaning he doesn't even draw the most difficult pass rush assignment in the majority of his games. The majority of sacks in the NFL come from the right side, where teams generally play their most effective pass rushers, so the average number of sacks allowed, etc. is generally higher on the left side than the right.

I will say one thing, I hate OL stats. Especially sacks allowed.
Sometimes a sack is attributed to a guy when it wasn't even his guy to block.
Happened a lot to Andrew Whitworth when Nate Livings was at G. PFF had Whit with around 5 or 6 sacks and OL coach Paul Alexander said Whit only gave up 1 based on who was his responsibility.
Just my .02 from the OL Union....

Yeah I don't put any worth into those stats at all. It's impossible to know who was supposed to pick up who the majority of the time.

Very much agree. Davis was very underwhelming as a rookie, showed vast improvements in his second year. The talent is there. He just needs to be more discplined and consistent. I expect him to have a great year. He's flashed a ton of ability(rookie year against Clay Matthews) but he's still in terms of technique, very much raw. Same with Iupati. People knew it would take some time when these guys were drafted. They're far from finished projects at this point.
