Sanu just ran a 4.41 at Rutgers pro day.

Your argument is now invalid

Good for Sanu. Should help his stock out a little more. I think he's firmly entrenched in the top half of the 2nd round now.

This girl doing the audio commentary for the Baylor proday is painful. Its like she is being told what to say for every sentence and is pausing to listen every other word.

Baylor WR Kendall Wright ran unofficial forty times of 4.43 and 4.46 at the school's Wednesday Pro Day.
These times are closer to Wright's play speed compared to his 4.61 "official" electronic time from the Combine. Wright actually clocked around 4.45 on stopwatches in Indianapolis. The Baylor product has tremendous versatility from multiple wide receiver spots and consistently separates from defenders. We doubt Wright falls out of the top-22 picks.

At this point I'd say it's safe to say he's cemented himself as the third WR to be taken after Blackmon and Floyd. I bet he'll probably go anywhere from the 15-25 range.

Both Kendall Wright and Terrance Ganaway ran .15 faster than they did at the Combine. Sounds like a fast track; doubtful either player's stock was affected either way. Pro day 40-yard dash times are useless because they are conducted in different circumstances than the rest of the 40 times. If a player has a Combine number, that's the time I'd go with because the conditions and timing method are consistent for every player.

Think the fact that people saw him outrunning defenses in college, that hand-timers had him in the mid-4.4s at the combine and doing it again at Baylor just tells personnel people that he might not be a track star, but there's no reason to believe he's going to have speed issues in the NFL. Think most people by now know that the NFL's "official" times are consistently a bit screwy, so it shouldn't affect his stock too bad. Not as sexy as running a 4.3 at the combine like some thought he would, but I tend to agree with people saying it's a Joe Haden situation, where a really solid player who has terrific game speed didn't look as good as his peers on the track.

Wright wont fall past 22, I still think Floyd will go ahead of Wright though.

Anyone who is paying attention already knew that Wright ran a 4.45 at the combine. People clinging to that "official" 4.61 are really out of touch. Wright will go in the first round for sure but I'm not sure where. I'd imagine I'll probably go in the 15-25 range. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll be the third WR taken but I wouldn't be shocked to see him go before Floyd. Nobody knows how good or bad Floyd really did in interviews and how much teams will drop him due to the off-field stuff.

Floyd has a legit chance to go to Buffalo at 10 now, can't see the Jets passing him up either since no WR's were brought in for Sanchez/Tebow?.

The #2 WR spot is far from locked down and is still a three horse race. I don't think they'll be a league wide consensus #2 and between Wright, Floyd and Hill, who goes first will really be about team preference/offensive fit. If I had to pick one though, at this moment my money's on Hill. Guys with speed don't fall far and Hill also has the size to be a true #1 on the outside. Also factor in that he's an engaging, likeable guy with no character issues and I think we see somebody fall in love with him early. By no means am I calling him a future bust by making this comparison but I feel there's a good chance he could be the DHB/Troy Williamson of this draft as in a guy who gets pushed up late because of the size/great speed combo.

I hope you weren't including the UW defense when you made that referance to college defenses. Even at my age i could outrun 4.7 corners.

As for the Stanford pro day tomorrow i expect our field reporter (Niel) to be giving us real time updates. What else does he have to do.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a youtube video of you running faster than 4.7 40.

Everyone throws numbers out there likes it nothing, until they try it and realize how much harder running a 5.0 really is.

My 40 times at Ft Benning Georgia were legendary. I thought everyone knew that. It was all in the context of outrunning the Husky secondary so take it for what it's worth. Just trying to have some fun.

Leaving aside what you or I would view as the more accurate number, I wouldn't be so quick to write off pro day times. In general, yes, there's value in the level playing field that the combine provides. That said, when a time doesn't meet with scouts expectations (and Wright's didn't at the combine, granted, there were reports that the hand-timed speeds, as others have noted, were far better), they'll go back and review film. There's very little doubt on Wright's game speed, so they'll come here looking for a better speed. So no, Wright's 40 yard dash times today weren't useless.

Is it a level of rationalization? Perhaps. But this allows scouts to go back and look at his combine 40 and suggest that it was simply a poor run on his part there, and that's a big factor for Wright. I heard a scout once say that they'll typically put the best time for a player on the board that they believe in (typically their hand times) unless there are extenuating circumstances.

_____

I still think, for my money, out of the top WR's, that Kendall Wright is the best guy. That said, Blackmon is easily first and works a lot better in schemes where he's asked to do a lot of short-intermediate routes to take advantage of his legs. Wright will be a better fit for more open schemes that take advantage of timing and a player's quickness.

Now, if I had to guess who was the 2nd WR, my hunch right now would be Michael Floyd, provided that the stuff I don't know (how he interviewed, how he explained his mishaps) checked out. I think there's still a level of questioning on how quick Hill can translate workout showings to in-game readings on defenses, and Floyd's size will probably endear him to some teams that want to give their QB that big target to throw to (compared to Wright that is).

RG3 is looking pretty good with good zip on ball passes short long and medium range passes. Robert also has a very quick release.

I think we need a off topic thread where we do our own combine. I was gonna start one back during the combine but forgot.

I have to disagree, yes Wright ran a pretty fast time at his pro day, however their RB also took almost 2/10's off his combine 40 time and when I see that I put it down to a fast track which leaves Wright stuck right on 4.61.

IMO, Wright isn't going to see round 1, when scouts and GM's expect you to run in the 3,50-4.40 range and you cannot beat a 4.61, your draft stock is going to dry up awfully quick, especially if you are a small WR who was relying on his speed to impress pro football personnel.

I have to wonder now if Wright impressive stats had more to do with who was throwing him the ball and less to do with his own skill.

I could actually see a drop to round 3 if they now consider him a 4.61 40 guy. It's not like he is a huge WR who can be a red zone threat due to his After all, he was being compared to Wallace, a legit 4.35-4.40 40 man and he runs a 4.61 at the combine and his pro day. Goodbye Mr. Wright.
