Default T.Y Hilton Runs 4.34 at Pro Day

FIU receiver T.Y. Hilton ran back-to-back 4.34 forties at his Pro Day on Thursday. I was really happy to see him work out after missing the Senior Bowl and the Combine with a quad injury. He is one of my personal favorites in this draft, and one of those guys with the kind of elite speed that could end up being a real playmaker even though he is likely to get drafted in the 5th or 6th round. I like the fact that he put up strong numbers despite being double-covered most of the time, and the fact that he is willing to play outside or in the slot. Quite raw, but I believe he has the skill and smarts to learn the entire route tree. Staying healthy is a concern due to his size (5'10" and 180). Any thoughts on "Goodbye" Hilton?

I've had Hilton as a 4th rounder, a team will need a small speedy WR like him. Very solid mid round pick

I think him and AJ Jenkins from Illinois are two of the most underrated Receivers in this draft. I could see both of them being top 64 selections.

He won't be there in the 6th/7th round.

I really, really like him - but durability is a major concern. This year wasn't the first he's struggled with injuries. Now, he won't have the workload he did at FIU and maybe that solves the problem - but still I think it's the one thing that makes him a day three pick.

TY Hilton is one of the most explosive players in the draft.
He was over used in college, running the ball, basically the only receiver they'd throw to, and returns all over the place.
He's a great talent though, definitely a 3rd/4th round grade

It's good to know that everyone hasn't forgotten about him. He is one of those players that I love to pull for. I see him as being an Az Hakim type of player at the next level, hopefully without the fumbling problems. I would love to see the Rams take him, of course, but I will probably watch him even if he goes elsewhere.

I'm on board with this evaluation and likely place he'll be drafted ... unless the Chiefs over-value another small but quick multi-purpose player again.

Hilton is 5x the player that McCluster was coming out.

I'm thinking he's better as well, but I'm not a huge fan of hyperbole when both are going to have about the same draft grade in my estimation.

Now you're just being foolish. McCluster set SEC records.

I like Hilton as a late 3rd or 4th rounder, but he's never done a thing against a good defense. He's played somewhere around 13 games against BCS conference schools and has gone over 100 yards combined rushing and receiving twice. And those schools were... Louisville and Duke.

He broke two school records. WOW.

So what your saying is Every single guy that didn't play for a big time college should be picked after the guys that did?

He was the only player in SEC history to rush for 1000 yards and have 500 yards receiving when he did it.

I'll also take what he did in his SR year against the likes of Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, and Arkansas over what Hilton did against Louisville and Duke.

Hilton is a guy with great speed, but it's not like he dominated even against the lower level of competition. To say he's 5x the player that McCluster was coming out is just stupid.

How many examples of great small school guys do you want? Guys who never played against great competition, guys who never even played division I football who have gone on to be fantastic NFL players? Chris Johnson played at a small school. So did Jerry Rice, John Stallworth, Darrell Green...don't make me go back and look at all the drafts. God I am so sick and tired of so many people in these threads that have their heads shoved so far up the SEC's ass! Yeah, we get it! The SEC is the top conference in the land. They get the top talent and play against the highest level of competition. But that doesn't guarantee jack when it comes to what kind of a player a prospect will become at the next level. The league is full of great big-school prospects that have fizzled out and not lived up to their potential. And just because a guy DIDN'T go to a big school doesn't make his body of work useless. I don't care who you are playing against...you don't rack up 7000 all-purpose yards in college football by being a stiff.

And T.Y. Hilton has something that Dexter McCluster didn't have, and never will have...SPEED. Not just great speed, or special speed...elite speed, the kind of speed that makes a lot of game situations very unfair at the next level. Just watch how he cuts through the defense like a hot knife through warm butter. I don't care if it is Louisville. You never saw McCluster do this in college, even when Ole Miss was bringing in their non-conference chumps.

In the NFL, I'd gladly take TY Hilton over Dexter McCluster.

Now we're to the point where we're gonna compare Hilton to HOFers because he went to a small school?

Hilton is not 5x the player as McCluster coming out. They are completely different players, and I'm not saying Hilton is bad. He would be a good pick in the 3rd round.

Yes he's fast. Understood. But if speed was everything than Heyward-Bey would be an all pro.

I agree, but at least from the little I've seen of Hilton he has run various different routes. The only routes Jenkins ran 90% of the time were fly routes or drag routes. If I'm an NFL team, I'm concerned that he doesn't have the size/ability to go over the middle to make catches just based on his film.

Plus, unlike Hilton, I can't recall any difficult catches Jenkins has made, but that might just be my terrible memory. I think Hilton will probably squeak into late round 2, and Jenkins is probably planted solidly at mid to late round 3.

Hilton is not 5x the player as McCluster coming out. They are completely different players, and I'm not saying Hilton is bad. He would be a good pick in the 3rd round.

Yes he's fast. Understood. But if speed was everything than Heyward-Bey would be an all pro.
That's a very good point. I didn't mean to say that Hilton was the second coming of Jerry Rice, but simply that he was not excluded from being a player at the next level due to playing at a small school. How about a few more reasonable comparisons?

Marques Colston - Hofstra
Greg Jennings - Western Michigan - Pro Bowler
Brandon Marshall - Central Florida - Pro Bowler
Steve Smith - Utah - Pro Bowler
Miles Austin - Monmouth - Pro Bowler
Roddy White - Alabama-Birmingham - Pro Bowler
Vincent Jackson - Northern Colorado - Pro Bowler
Donald Driver - Alcorn St. - Pro Bowler

None of these players went up against the top competition in college. 5 of the 8 didn't even play in Division I, which means they never saw a defense that was as talented as Louisville or Duke, with the occasional exception.

I will be the first one to give you that the SEC has more talent than any other conference. Something like 26% of the players drafted come from that conference alone, and that does give the players from those schools an advantage on many levels. But when a player goes to a small school it doesn't mean he sucks any more than a player going to a big school means he is a perennial Pro Bowler. Everyone plays the card they're dealt. And how boring would the NFL be if every player came from the SEC?
