Weedon Now in Round 1?

Mayock says there is a strong possibility that some team could trade back into round 1 with NE for Weedon.

Yes, he is old, however the added maturity suggests he can make a quick adjustment to pro ball and start immediately.

He's also saying Weedon is a sure fire early 2nd rounder at worst.

What say you all.

I hope so. It would be among the dumbest decisions ever.

Weeden is practically at retirement age now. By the time he's developed his NFL passing game to actually not suck, he'll be ready to retire.

I wouldn't say Weeden will go in the 1st at this time, but the odds have to be rising. Seattle is dumb enough to take him at 12

It would surprise me, but we have to see how this game of quarterback musical chairs shakes out. I think Weeden ultimately comes off the board early to mid second round.

The looser of the Flynn/Tannenhill sweepstakes will easily panic and grab him at the end of round 1 via trade, or as early as 22 to Cleveland

I'd like for the Steelers to pick up a 2 and a 3 for him, just don't want to miss a sure fire starter if we drop too far back. Would be psyched for a 2 this year and a 1 next year, but that would have to drop us way back into the second round.

I say I wouldn't draft Weeden until the 3rd. I don't see him as a safe bet to come in and be a productive starter right away, so at 28, that's not good.

No they aren't. Seattle is more likely to go after Matt Flynn, trade up for Ryan Tannehill or trade for Jake Locker if the Titans sign Peyton.

Weeden is closer to round 6 than he is to round 1.

I'm positive Hasselbeck would be available if the Titans sign Manning, but I'd be shocked if Locker was as well.

Agreed Wrathman.

Trading your QB of the future, who you have under contract for a reasonable amount wouldn't make sense. Especially when he could learn under Manning, then take over in 2 years or so.

Being 29 years old doesn't bother me (if Luck was 29 years old, I would still draft him 1st overall). However, the idea that he's some how more advanced than the younger guys because of his age does bother me. It's not like his extra 6-8 years of life on this earth somehow made him a better college QB than these other guys, so I don't understand how it will make him a better NFL player.

he might be more responsible but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to learn a play book faster or have a stronger work ethic.

If a team thinks he can start as a rookie, then the first round is certainly possible.

However, I personally don't think he can start right away - so that would mean he would fall below the likes of Foles and Lindley who have tools but need work - but it doesn't matter if they sit for a couple of years.

He's a good QB when he can stand on his 'pitching mound' in the pocket and spray the ball around. He's not as good when under pressure - when you can knock him off that mound he sure doesn't look like a first rounder.

The other consideration is his limited experience in terms of looking off defenders and going through progressions. He may need a simplified offense much as with Cam Newton in Carolina last year. But if you use a half field read system, teams will be ready and he'll struggle.

The 2012 version of Danny Watkins! Last year everyone (myself included) thought "Oh, Watkins is 28, he's sure to be an instant starter and seven-year upgrade!" Then we got into the season and figured out "Oh wait, he's not ready to start in the NFL yet, and he's 28!"

I still maintain that Weeden would be a top ten pick if he was 22-23. I think he's a realistic possibility for the Browns at 22 and he's my been number 3 QB in this draft all along.

agree 100%. And some team will take him too high and push him into the role anyway. by the end of the year, I believe the Eagles were starting Watkins.
