I love you Bert. Saints fans are my favourite divisional fans. (Panthers don't count because there aren't many on this site)

Goodell won't let these guys walk, this goes against everything he's been trying to do with making the game safer. If players trying to intentionally injure others doesn't get penalized, then I don't know how you can suspend or fine players for "illegal hits".

Can someone point to multiple occurrences where Saints' players did try to illegally hurt another player of the opposing team? Because as someone who has seen every Saints' game since the '09 season, there aren't going to be many examples of such actions.

I don't think saints fans are really worried about Vilma's suspension, more about Will Smith. Vilma wouldn't play over Lofton anyways and he's lost a few steps in the last couple years.

I haven't really followed the saga because I don't really care, but even if you couldn't conclusively prove on the field that a particular tackle was done with malicious intent, couldn't the player still be reprimanded for conspiracy to commit a malicious act?

No buy we could put Vilma at Will or Sam.

Hell no you'd have to prove it first. And if what the saints did was illegal the nfl should go back and fine Deacon Jones, Ronnie Lott, and Night Train Lane because those guys tried to take you out EVERY single play.

NFL gave Jonathan Vilma a sworn affidavit from former Saints DC Gregg Williams that the New Orleans LB offered $10,000 to any teammate who knocked Brett Favre out of the January 2010 NFC Championship game.
The sworn affidavit from former Saints DC Gregg Williams that the NFL presented today to Jonathan Vilma was signed Friday, Sept 14, 2012.

Williams, if you ever want to coach again, come in and sign this. I wouldn't even be surprised if they forged his signature as the NFL did wrote his apology letter.
And the same affidavit said there was no pay to injure program. If Goodell is using this as his evidence lol so I'm not sure what to make of it... Williams is pretty much saying he ran a clean system and is putting all the blame on Vilma who Williams says offered the money on his own

What strikes me as being extremely fishy is that the players, particularly Vilma, arranged this meeting with Goodell around two weeks in advance. Three days before the meeting was to take place, Goodell got with Gregg Williams and had him sign a sworn affidavit to present to the players?
Even in that event, Goodell would have still suspended the players without having proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the players, coaches, and franchise were aware, and willingly cooperated in, a pay-for-performance and/or a bounty program.

Where's the evidence? Proof?
All the NFL has is an official "he said, she said" statement from Williams. Means nothing.

Exactly. A sworn affidavit means nothing since it's going against the word of several others. The longer this plays out, the more egg Goodell will have on his face.

Why would Goodell purposely try to tank one of his own teams if he didn't have proof? You guys are not thinking this through properly. The NFL wouldn't sully a member of it's own organization unless they were doing something improper.
