Default Your Teams Best Draft

In the Era of Free Agency it's hard to develop draft classes like in the 70s. What is your teams best draft since you've been following your team?

For the Bears, there haven't been too many good drafts. 2003 gave us Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman. I guess that is the best one.

Saint's 06 draft:

Reggie Bush(1st)
Marques Colston(7th)
Jahri Evans(4th)
Roman Harper(2nd)
Zach Strief(7th)

All but Strief were massive contributors to our superbowl, and 3 are still integral starters, with Evans being a perennial all pro. Strief has come along nicely, and it's rare to see two 7th rounders contributing so heavily.

Rob Ninkovich has also become a solid player, just not for us.

The Pats have had some good ones and some bad ones but I really like 2010

McCourty
Gronk
Hernandez
Zoltan
Deaderick
Spikes

Jermaine Cunningham still has potential, and all Patriots fans believe this is the year Taylor Price finally breaks out

The titans always seem to be too hit and miss to have a draft that clearly is better than others. I think the 2011 class could be really great judging by what they did as rookies, but that all starts with Jake Locker.

In 2009 the Titans hit on Kenny Britt. Sen'Derrick marks has been a rotational guy but nothing special at DT. Jared Cook is a very talented young TE that gets better every year. McGrath has been a starter and valuable depth at LB. Mouton hasn't played well, but was injured last season. Kropog has provided nice depth at tackle and guard.

Ringer has proved to be a viable backup to CJ., and McCourty in the 6th round was an absolute steal.

So Kenny Britt, Jared Cook and McCourty are all very good starters.

The rest have played and been valuable depth

Giants in '04 drafted Eli, Snee, Reggie Torbor and Gibril Wilson. All of them key contributors at one point or another and helped win first (and second) Super Bowl. Then in '05, we drafted Tuck, Webster and Jacobs. Overall, a great 2 year span.

2010 is an obvious recent example for New England because they secured Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez on the offense and added Devin McCourty, Brandon Spikes, and Brandon Deaderick to the defense while finding their punter of the future in Zoltan Mesko. They missed on Taylor Price in the third round and it looks like Jermaine Cunningham will be a second-round bust though. Aside from that obvious example, I liked 2005 a lot. Logan Mankins, Ellis Hobbs, Nick Kaczur, James Sanders, and Matt Cassel in that one. Nice work.

Hard to pick for Jacksonville. Not a lot of good ones.

I would go with 2004, even though they missed on Reggie Williams in the top 10.

1 9 Reggie Williams WR Washington
2 39 Daryl Smith OLB Georgia Tech
2 55 Greg Jones RB Florida State
3 86 Jorge Cordova LB Nevada-Reno
4 118 Anthony Maddox DT Delta State
4 120 Ernest Wilford WR Virginia Tech
5 137 Josh Scobee K Louisiana Tech
5 150 Chris Thompson CB Nicholls State
5 159 Sean Bubin T Illinois
7 249 Bobby McCray DE Florida

Smith, Jones, and Scobee are Pro-Bowl caliber players. McCray and Wilford were pretty good for a limited time as well.

2006 is close because it gave them MoJo and Lewis, but nothing else. 2009 is probably 3rd.

Not sure how long you have followed the Jags, but their first two drafts were very good.

For the Packers, in the time that I've watched them, it's easily the 1995 draft:

1. Craig Newsome
3. Darius Holland
3. William Henderson
3. Brian Williams
3. Antonio Freeman

4. Jeff Miller
5. Jay Barker
5. Travis Jervey
6. Charlie Simmons
7. Adam Timmerman

The players in bold all started and were good players on their Super Bowl squad; with the exception of Jervey, who was a Pro Bowl STer. Unfortunately, Williams and Newsome had their careers cut short by injury.

Have to include 2003 for the Pats. We got three important pieces in Ty Warren, Asante, and Koppen plus some guys who contributed like Eugene Wilson (thought he would be a stud), Bethel Johnson, Dan Klecko, and Tully Banta Cain.

In 1995 our first rounder was Ty Law, second rounder was Ted Johnson, and our third rounder was Curtis Martin. That is a pretty amazing first three picks. The following year our first three picks were Terry Glenn, Lawyer Milloy, and Tedy Bruschi. Terry Glenn may not have quite panned out but his rookie year he was a beast and had a pretty nice career. You would be hard pressed to find a team that hit on its first, second, and third rounders as well as we did with Parcells those few years.

Ravens got Ray Lewis and Jon Ogden in 1996. I'd say that's pretty damn good.

Ding, that's the one I was going to state as well.

The Chiefs had a pretty great draft in 2008:

1(5) Glenn Dorsey
1(15) Branden Albert
2(35) Brandon Flowers
3(73) Jamaal Charles

3(76) Brad Cottam
3(82) Dajuan Morgan
4(105) Will Franklin
5(140) Brandon Carr
6(170) Barry Richardson

6(182) Kevin Robinson
7(210) Brian Johnston
7(239) Mike Merritt

Flowers, Dorsey, Albert and Charles are all starters and playing at a high level. Carr was too until FA hit. Richardson was a starter for a while but he was really bad.

Four starters, five if you count Carr before this year. Pretty sexy. We had a lot of holes to fill in that 2008 draft though so I'd expect to hit on a lot of those guys.

2005 for Dallas

1. Demarcus Ware
1b. Marcus Spears
2. Kevin Burnett
4. Marion Barber
4b. Chris Canty
6. Justin Beriault
6. Rob Pettiti
7. Jay Ratliff

Ware is a future HOFer and Ratliff was one of the best NTs in the league for a stretch. Also netted our starting 5Techs in Canty (who was a much better 5T than he ever was NT for the Giants) and Spears, who didn't really live up to the hype but has been a solid player for us. Barber was an excellent back for a few seasons when he was still the Barbarian, and Burnett was a nice Nickel LB in his tenure but his real success came after he left us in FA for a starting gig.

You guys took Lewis one pick before Green Bay was set to take him. Instead, we took OT John Michaels. An All-Time Great.

I hate you guys, for that.

1 1 Eli Manning QB Mississippi (traded for Philip Rivers)
2 35 Igor Olshansky DE Oregon
3 65 Nate Kaeding K Iowa
3 66 Nick Hardwick C Purdue
4 98 Shaun Phillips LB Purdue
5 133 Dave Ball DE UCLA
5 154 Michael Turner RB Northern Illinois
6 169 Ryan Krause TE Nebraska-Omaha
7 204 Ryon Bingham DT Nebraska
7 209 Shane Olivea T Ohio State
7 254 Carlos Joseph -- Miami (Fla.)

All except Joseph and Krause have started a game in the NFL. Five pro bowlers (Rivers, Kaeding, Hardwick, Phillips, Turner). Olshansky was solid, Ball never made it here in SD but became a solid starter in Tennessee. Olivea started at RT for a good 3 1/2 years and did a good job.

8 starters in one draft is pretty crazy and Bingham was a good rotational DT/DE for us for a good 4-5 years.
