the Indianapolis Colts have 6 consecutive seasons with 12 wins or more. When was the last time that happened?

It's like when people call President Clinton a 'former President'. He's still very much the 42nd President and is not dead - yet.

Meh. If I spend $5 and no longer possess it, I can't say I have $5, much like I can't say I'm still a Taco Bell employee.

It's actually considered disrespectful to the current president to call past presidents "President So-and-So." People still call them President Bush, President Clinton, and President Carter, but they aren't supposed to.

There is a minor difference between being a President and a Taco Bell employee.

The reason people call former presidents "President X" and don't call former Taco Bell employees "Taco Bell Employee X" is because former presidents worked as presidents and former Taco Bell employees work at Taco Bell.

Have indicates present tense, which means they currently have the 6 seasons still going. They had 6 consecutive seasons of that, but do not currently

Yes, but you are not elected to be a Taco Bell employee.
Much like you are not hired as a Nobel Prize Laureate.

If you spend 5 dollars, someone else possess your 5 dollars. No one else possess the record that the Colts currently have.

But is there a difference grammatically?

I think that "President" is a name-prefix as well as a job (I obviously mean President of the United States, or some other country -- not to be confused with President of Taco Bell). It's like "Doctor." You don't lose the Dr. prefix upon retirement.
Also, nobody cares about the Colts record of consecutive 12-win seasons. The NFL is a championship-or-bust league.

No matter how grammatically correct you can be, the Colts only won two games last year. Spell checking your posts and dictionary.com can't change that for even the most epic of internet scholars

This would be fine and good if the thread title said the Colts have the record, but it didn't. The Colts have the record for consecutive seasons with 12+ wins. They had 6 such seasons, as they did not win 12 games last year.

Senators, US House Reps members, judges, every military officer above lieutenant & yes Presidents are still entitled to be addressed by their titles. No it is NOT deserved, but there it is.....

This inspired me to look it up. The Indianapolis Colts actually had (have?) seven consecutive seasons of 12 or more wins.
2003: 12-4
2004: 12-4
2005: 14-2
2006: 12-4
2007: 13-3
2008: 12-4
2009: 14-2

49ers had 16 straight seasons with at least 10 wins and five Super Bowls.
Homer alert.

The Packers are the only team to win three consecutive NFL Championships. And they did it twice.
[/homer]
The Bears also had an incredible three year stretch in the 40s, where they only lost two regular season games. IIRC, they won two championships in those three seasons, but lost the other Championship game to the Redskins after a perfect 11-0 season. I think that Bears squad is proof that nobody is ultimately going to give a rats ass about the Pats 16-0 season.
