14 is such an awkward # to be at. Obviously this move was all about getting a foot in the Texas market, which makes sense, but I'm not sold the move will really be worth it. 12 is an ideal # because you can have a conference championship game ($$) without having to split the pot too many ways. In order for any move to be financially viable, the two teams need to add more than the average amount of money split within a television contract. I'm not sold that A&M and Missouri do that for the SEC, despite their good television markets.
But while that move is questionable, the additions of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the ACC made no sense then, and make no sense now. The east coast doesn't care about college football, and adding two mediocre programs from the Big East does nothing to change that.
