The NFL has suspended Joe Mays for his hit on Matt Schaub. This is the first suspension I can think of since the league began its "no headshot" emphasis. (Unless James Harrison got one at some point that I'm just not remembering...)

There were a couple of hits (two or three flagrant hits on the quarterback, including one after he had slid forward) in the Colts/Jags match that if the regular refs (or a competent ref anyway) had been there would have been flagged but the replacement refs didn't flag them. So with players thinking they can get away with more they are going to try to get away with more, thus putting player safety in risk.

Ok that might be true but then the players themselves can't complain when it's their fault.

Yeah but that's not enough. You need all the owners on board. An older Commish who had trust and the owners ears can say something to facilitate change. This Commish is younger, and hasn't been in position long enough to do that.
WFAN is making good points . It comes down to the owners just wanting to win, Whether it's against the players association or now the refs. Mike F. said it was a matter of 3.3 million dollars. The NFL is a billion dollar enterprise so 3.3 million is a chump change for that. But the owners have a vision and are sticking to it no matter what.

The owners run the show not the commish. This directive isn't coming from Goodell it comes from the owners. He isn't making these decisions alone. Don't forget who works for who.
Yes of course that's the issue. The NFL won't let anyone dictate terms to them. They'll stick with this until the other side caves, just like the players did.

You normally don't get to where most owners are today by signing bad deals, even if the deals are small.

True but then again the players and the NFLPA have attacked virtually every player safety initiative in the last few years so I don't think this is the only piece of hypocrisy on this issue.

Well that just goes back to my point they have no leg to stand on regarding this issue.

Yeah but its a NFL/NFLPA dispute. When has avoiding hypocrisy ever got in the way of that?

I also honestly think Vegas should not have a line on these games till the regular refs come back. Too much money and too many chances for fraudulent games.

Is there a greater risk with a replacement ref than with a regular one?

You should. Without them, your favorite team isn't who they are now.

Well the majority needs to be on board for a change. If they are not, and take the stance that they don't want to "lose" to the refs, then I can see this stalemate going on.

hahaha.
I honestly don't see any games this week that are both have interesting teams and will be competitive. The competitive games* are with teams I probably won't watch.

I think Tate's possession of Jenning's ass might have had something to do with the touchdown.

Discuss. A couple solid prime time games this week.

I bolded upset alert games.
I really hope the Seahawks win. They've won like 13 of 14 against the Rams recently but I have a bad feeling. The offense just hasn't been good. But the defense should destroy the Rams O.

The three remaining people in my survivor pool decided to split the title and we're starting a gritty reboot. I have no idea which team to pick this week.

I thought that was the joke when I tried it earlier, but I just tried it again and it's "working."
