I think I figured out why Pittsburgh's defense hasn't been that great recently.
They have completely failed to restock their defensive line with young talent. Ziggy Hood is just a flat-out useless bust. I don't see Cameron Heyward doing much, but he still has time to prove he isn't a bust, but it isn't looking great so far. Jason Worilds looks like a complete bust as well as a rush linebacker.

All Shaun Hill jokes aside, he isn't a terrible option. When he was starting in 2010, he averaged 260 yards, 1.6 TDs, and 1.1 INT per game. For a bye week replacement, you could do a lot worse than Mr. Top-20 QB.

How so???
lulzz what? complete bust? He is still playing and in the league, he draft position doesn't warrant how he is playing, but he is far from complete bust.

they dominate when they bump and run, they get smoked with they play off.
I love you for saying evander hood is useless, i have always hated him and hes truly terrible.
heyward is a stud, we just dont get to see him on the firld very much. Hes a great stack and shed DE and is so strong, he makes so many arm tackles
casey hampton has no business on the field over mcclendon and hood.
Jason worilds, another useless pick at the time...not just hind sight i was infuriated at the time. Its like playing with 3 LBs when hes on the field. he is WORSE than alonzo jackson
I do think the defense misses troy and harrison more than anyone thought they would...they are old but still extremely productive, especially harrison

Joe McKnight - Running back, kick returner, pass rusher, defensive back
Maybe he can play QB too?

Isn't Wilson the one that had his own bus at the Senior Bowl? I remember liking him solely because of that. Until he became a Jet, then I was forced to hate him.

I know this old news but I just thought I would reiterate the point.
In fairness though, a lot of people were all over Wilson's nuts leading up to the draft. I don't remember many who had him over Haden but they definitely thought he would get no further than Houston who I believe were picking 19 when they took Kareem Jackson

Is anyone else surprised by the ypa average of Aaron Rodgers thus far - 6.5. I know the offense hasn't clicked yet, however he is nearly 3 yards down on his season average from last year. Losing the big play seems to have hurt the Packers' offense so far

Someone posted in another thread...or maybe earlier in this one...that last year, Rodgers faced some godawful defenses for the majority of the season. This year, he's been against the current 6th, 10th and 13th ranked defenses averaging one TD per game.
Maybe this is just him reverting back to his mean:

Herm Edwards also said defenses know how to deal with the Packers offense now, to run lots of cover 2 shell and knock the receivers off their routes. No idea if that is really true but it sounded interesting.

Yeah well he has faced the 49ers, Bears and Seahawks who do all have very good defenses. I think it could be a mixture of what BearBaron is saying and the fact that his offensive line is dogshit. It's hard, particlularly if DBs are being physical at the line with the WRs, to have time to let big plays develop down the field if Rodgers is being raped by pass rushers every time he drops back. There also have been some pretty bad drops by mainly Nelson and Finley at times too.
I think the two deep shell is a very good defense to run against GB. Benson is nothing more than average and teams will dare the Packers to run the ball against seven man fronts until the can show a). they can run it successfuly and b). they are willing to stick to the run.
One of the toughest things to do as an offensive gameplanner is to take the ball out of the best player's hands, however if coverage dictates the Packers should run the ball 25 times a game then they really should, regardless of how good Rodgers is.
