Chiefs had a private workout with Ezekiel Ansah. They also interviewed him at the combine.
Word is we are in love with him.
Would love this guy even at 1. I don't care that he isn't completely polished. He owned everyone but Eric Fisher at the Senior Bowl and his combine was awesome. His tape last year was also very very impressive.
He can play 3 tech or OLB. Chiefs only got 27 sacks last year (bottom 5 in the league) so this pick makes a ton of sense.
And Reid loves him some DL. He's drafted DL in the first round most of the time in Philly.

Ansah #1 would be really interesting. I liken it to taking Darko Milicic #2 overall in the NBA draft.

Ansah at #1 would be worse than Joeckel.

As a Pistons fan, I hate you.
But yeah, Ansah at #1 has facepalm written all over it.

That's very high to select a guy who looks like a 1-2 year project.

Ah, I thought of another comparison for Ansah--Amobi Okoye.
You are drafting him based on projection.

Honestly, he doesn't strike me as a project. He lacks experience, but his natural football ability is incredible.

As a Raiders fan, I hope you all don't get him. Everyone thinks its madness, but regardless of his lack of experience, he can ball. He's the DE version of Antonio Gates- not supposed to be that good at a sport he didn't play, but he is.

I totally get what you're saying. I like him a lot and I would like to see him in Silver and Black. I think he can be an absolute monster. He just gets the game.
But he hasn't laid down enough of a foundation to really establish the confidence that he will be good enough to be a #1 pick. He has HIGH bust potential.

agreed. I am weary of someone who has 4.5 career sacks and so little college experience. Those arent the type of guys you draft #1 overall.
get a boom/bust prospect like that later in the draft.

I agree, but I don't think he will bust. I think he will bust his ass and become a dominant player. I was on this cat months ago during the season and it's amazing to see how high he has climbed!

But you have to see him play. There is no comparison between him and Okoye on the field.

That's a terrible analogy, because LeBron, Wade, and Carmello are not in this draft.

I LOL'd, because I was telling everyone and their brother how bad that guy sucked, but everyone thought he belonged top 2 overall. He never had an offensive game in college. There wasn't a bunch of upside either... his athleticism was very poor. It was a laughable pick.

I understand that Okoye is a DT while Ansah is a hybrid DE/OLB. The comparison is that they enter(ed) the draft as raw prospects with high upside.
If you want a player with similar size and athletic ability then grab a devin taylor later in the draft. He has 18.5 career college sacks. If you want to gamble for a player like Von Miller than get Jarvis Jones. If you want someone like Justin houston, than Cornelius Washington is there.

I think the counter to that is that they already have those guys on their roster. What they are hoping to get by drafting Ansah #1 is JPP. There are no JPPs in the draft after Ansah. Maybe Ansah isn't either, but that's the comparison teams are using (a Chandler Jones and JPP mixture).
Right or wrong, they aren't making the decision because they want a pass rusher. They're trying to hit it big by getting an all pro talent.

But the Chiefs are picking #1. Are you suggesting that Devin Taylor should go #1? The Chiefs have filled nearly every need. They can afford to take a bit of a risk on this kind of player who has a unique skill set. Like I said, I hope they don't pick him because I would not want to have to face him twice a year.

JPP : 6'4.6'', 270lbs, 4.71 forty, 1.65 10yrd, 7.18 3-cone, 30.5'' vertical, 9'7'' broad
ansah: 6'4.4'', 271lbs, 4.63 forty, 1.56 10yrd, 7.11 3-cone, 34.5'' vertical, 9'8'' broad
taylor: 6'5.8'', 266lbs, 4.72 forty, 1.60 10yrd, 6.89 3-cone, 35'' vertical, 10'6'' broad
washington: 6'3.3'', 265lbs, 4.55 forty, 1.60 10yrd, 39'' vertical, 10.6'' broad
Both Taylor and Washington have more college production than Ansah. Athletically they have similar ability. Who is to say what they will make of it?

of course not.

I would counter by saying that his skillset isnt completely unique, and that under your same logic (chiefs have filled every need and can afford to take a risk) it would make more sense for the chiefs to go ahead and draft Geno Smith.

For the record, Chiefs also have a strong interest in Dion Jordan. We even went to Oregon's pro day a few days ago to talk with him.
I think Ziggy Ansah is the #1 target they'll have if they trade down (which they're trying to do.
At #1, I think there are 4 guys who we would take:
Luke Joeckel
Eric Fisher
Dion Jordan
Shariff Floyd

I would love to see the Chiefs take Floyd #1 overall. That would just make my day.
