Alabama is boring but brutally efficient. 31-0 so far against MSU, backup qb to lacy for an all too easy TD.

ND's defense is that good. Oklahoma is slightly overrated and very inconsistent today, but this fighting Irish defense is legit.

Punt return, MSU fumbles it away (ball bounced off a blocker's back. After the Bama TD, the kick return by Mississippi state is fumbled [christian jones with a nice shot] and recovered by Alabama. It's under review now, but that was pretty much this game in a nutshell.

Little bit of stat/score padding so this game doesn't look so bad at the end of the year for Oklahoma. Always so overrated....

What is Teo's draft ceiling? Could some team in the top 5 or even 3 give him consideration? Guy is just a monster.
|
Middle linebackers just don't get drafted high. Urlacher and Kuechley went 9. Rolando McClain went 8th. That is probably his ceiling.

Notre Dame had 1 penalty and no turnovers. This makes me rage even harder about the USC game today.

Urlacher moved around a lot in college and was coming out of a smaller program. Keuchley was/is good, but I don't think he ever made his presence felt on the field in the same way Teo has. McClain was just a gross reach by the Raiders.

Alabama goes up against LSU next week. If the tide play then like they did today, it might be uglier than that national championship shutout.

MSU with a nice drive for a TD. Granted, it was garbage time, but the shutout is over.

I was out drinking, I missed it. But seriously, **** Florida for giving the Bulldogs a chance to win the East. I will cause serious bodily harm to someone if that indeed happens after we stomped them.

ND is for real. Great defense, steady offense that isn't prone to mistakes. That's a formula for winning championships.
The OREGON TOUCHDOWNZ crowd doesn't like it, but they also like WVU.
If ND goes undefeated they will have deserved to go to the title game.
They would give Bama a good game as well.
As a side note: I hate ND.

I have said for years that hits like this are cheap & dirty, and for just this reason: it's easy to injure players severely like this.... I only wish the guys who did it would injure their own necks instead of taking out the runners knees.
Look, football is a brutal rough sport. I love the game. But horse-collars were ruled illegal because of high injury risks, and so should hits like this be.... they actually are on QBs for that reason.
RBs and WRs, runners or blockers, anyone, have no defense when people dive into their knees like this. There are many other ways to tackle.... I'm no Gamecock fan, but I feel terrible for Lattimore... poor guy dammit.
|
I'm mixed on the low hits. Low hits break knees, high hits damage brains. It's a dumb, brutal, violent sport that we love. You have to accept some risk when you play it.
OTOH, I see your point about just diving for someone's knees as being cheap. Man up, and tackle the guy by hitting him on the numbers and wrapping him up.
It would be difficult to rule intentional vs unintentional low hits.

Another thing to keep in mind, and this goes for horse collars too, is that the defenders will still do it if that is the only way they can stop the guy. Better a 15 yard penalty (and fine if in the NFL) than let him run all the way for a TD.

BTW, it may not have mattered in the end so much, but if I were a PSU fan, I would be livid with the officiating. B1G refs blow, and it happened last week to OSU where they were ridiculously bad against OSU.
But my god, some of those calls today were horrendous. Some rotten, drive changing calls. Almost all in the favor of OSU.
I hate seeing that.

Yep, not much you can do to prevent someone from committing an act, other than knowing how severe the punishment will be.

As a SC fan, I don't have any qualms about the hit. It sucks, but that's the game. Those hits happen numerous times a game with no injury. Football is a violent sport, and this **** happens. I just wish that if it had to happen to anyone, it wouldn't be Lattimore, not simply because of the caliber of player he is, but also because of the type of person he is. I guess it sounds bad saying I wished it would happen to someone else, but truthfully I do, because Lattimore is one of the highest quality characters in college football. I can only hope that he can recover and still play football, but if not, I have no doubt he'll still be successful in life.

LSU has a better defense this year than last year and a better defense than Alabama. That won't happen. Bama won't score more than 20.
