Mid-Season Setting of the Standard

Curious to see who people think are setting the standard for play at each respective position at this point in the season, now that every team has played at least half of their schedule. I don't really have specific nominees myself, but I'm interested so as to get a better feel for the rest of the league this year. If there's anyone on the Seahawks who qualifies for this conversation right now, it'd probably be Richard Sherman. He's laying some huge hits this year along with being on pace to break up 20-something passes and is also on pace for 10 forced turnovers between interceptions and forced fumbles. I know the hobbits patrolling Chicago's back end have been forcing turnovers like mad, but I don't know if I've seen a Chicago game yet.

Aaron Rodgers is probably the obvious choice for QB again,
Adrian Peterson just shredded a solid run defense without ANY help from (read: "without the existence of") a passing game,

And it gets hard from there.

Not a lot of people are talking about Cameron Wake. As good as J.J. Watt has been, Cam Wake has been almost as dominant this year.

My only issue with this is calling Charles Tillman a hobbit. He's an inch shorter than Sherman.

Tony Gonzales!? Not to come off as a massive homer, but Gronkowski has to be the ultimate TE ever. I can't think of a better TE tbh. Perfect build and athleticism to go with his brute strength and football IQ. Add the work ethic and that's the prototype.

Another Patriot worth mentioning in this thread is Sebastian Vollmer. He started a bit shaky this year due to some nagging injuries, but since he's been healthy he's been absolutely dominant. When he gets his hands on defenders it's all over. He's beastly when run blocking and just flat out kills people when blocking on screens. There are other Patriots I could make the argument for but I'll stop here...

As for non-Patriot players JPP, Adrian Peterson and JJ Watt definitely stands out to me.

I'm not sure I would say Rodgers is the standard setter for QBs this year. He has had some great performances but some pretty sub par ones as well. Take last week. Sure he threw 4 TDs but he completed less than 50% of his passes. He has also nearly matched his INT total from last year already (sure 5 isn't exactly bad through 9 games) however I think something is off with Rodgers this year. His ypa is also way down on his awesome year last year. Just to be clear I am in no way saying Rodgers isn't having a good year, however he is now back in the pack at the top instead of being a clear cut leader. I don't think any one QB has been a stand out thus far.

RB it's gotta be Peterson.

The 49ers offensive line is setting the standard in the league this year. They have been dominant against some very good defensive fronts. Just watch the seahawks game, they pushed around one of the best run stuffing defenses in the league. Trent Baalke deservrs alot of credit for putting this young line together over the last 3 years.

Have to look at Von Miller, he is only getting better and is tied for TFL and second in sacks and has had a bye week.

And the broncos Oline hasnt allowed a sack in the last 4 games i believe, along with a good running attack.

Julio's got a lot of catching up to do to make it close before we start debating that.

I went to USC(South Carolina) and I actually played against Green in HS and saw plenty of him at UGA and Julio at Alabama.

Never once did I or anyone i knew think Julio was superior to Green in anything other than measurables... Green is a much more natural WR and has the Production to back it up. Julio flew up the boards due to his combine, not his production at Alabama

Julio was viewed as a high first round pick long before the combine...

He killed the combine because that's the kind of athlete he is. And he was higly productive in college.

That may have been you, but to act like nobody in the world thought Julio was a better player is incorrect. Julio was ranked higher coming out of HS, both of them were freshman studs in college and were debated since Hs on through college to the draft. It's a myth that people act like nobody thought Julio was any good prior to the draft, not sure where people even come up with that. You being around the situation should know more then anyone Julio didn't "fly up the boards" with a good combine, all it did was verify what people had been saying for years.


People were salivating about Julio since he was 18 years old, him tearing up the combine was hardly a surprise. I never said Green wasn't a more natural WR, he always has been. But there are a ton of WR's who are "more natural" at WR then Demaryius Thomas also, but I'm sure you know there are many more things to consider.

Whatever you say. But there have been AJG vs Julio debates going on for well over 6 years now, and will be going long after they have both been in the league also. Sure you can have your favorite, but that doesn't make the point stand as is. It would be different if Julio was some physical freak who had no production to stand on, but unfortunately that's not the case.

I might have been bias in the situation but Julio never destroyed USC like Green did. and I did play against him in HS. But I see Green being much more productive, like a randy moss type roll because he is the only one on the team worth anything...
