Good Read on Wisconsin RB Montee Ball

Best back in the draft hands down. His vision, patience, and balance are elite. He is also very good in the passing game despite not having great numbers as a senior due to the completely abysmal Badger passing game. Ball may not have the flash that people look for, but he will long term put up steller numbers. Think Curtis Martin or Emmitt Smith.

I still think he ends up like any other Wisconsin RB in the NFL.

I'm going to reserve judgement on Ball until he's played a few seasons in the NFL.

Every leading rusher from Wisconsin before they were drafted looked like a future pro bowler.
I'm not sure what's different about Ball yet.

He reminds me of Mark Ingram. I'm expecting a very meh career.

Ball's skill set doesn't match up too closely with recent Wisconsin backs so I don't really understand this statement.

Ron Dayne - simply put he was a big back who was an incredible college player but skills didn't translate to the NFL

Anthony Davis - he was never viewed as much of a pro prospect

Brian Calhoun - he had one unbelievable year in Madison and he is the closest thing to Ball on this list; he wasn't mature enough to handle being a professional, among many other things

PJ Hill - a bigger back, much like Dayne, and he was never viewed as much of a pro prospect

John Clay - he had better speed than some of the bigger backs but he just didn't dedicate himself to be as good as he could be and he wasn't the brightest kid either

While Wisconsin has had some very good college backs, it's not like these backs were highly touted or viewed as good prospects. Ball's abilities are not matched by anyone on this list and that's why he's a unique prospect for the school at a position where they've had a great deal of collegiate success.

Ingram may have been something if he was drated by the right team. Ingram in New Orleans is a square peg in a round hole. That was one dumb pick by N.O.

N.O is where highly touted RBs go to die. That Brees and Payton-led offense simply has no room for them unless they are a Sproles type back.
