I think Colston is better than his numbers indicate. If he were force fed the ball like some guys, he'd have more flashy TD numbers and such. He's been hurt a lot, even when he plays, he's usually nursing some lower body injury and playing much slower than his peak.
He's not an all pro level player, but he's probably better than people realize. Lance Moore is the one totally created by Brees, and trying to force him the ball down the seam like he's Jimmy Graham has led to a lot of bad interceptions.

And for a guy who is more of a possession guy, he has a very nice YPC average in his best years, and for a career average.

Actually this isn't true, there have been several studies into what contributes to player salaries, and pro bowls have proven time and time again to not be a statistically significant variable.

Article on NFL.com from a former player reveals that tactical voting is used to help overcome not being allowed to vote for teammates.
Quote:
The Pro Bowl is supposed to showcase the season's most exceptional players. To have your blood, sweat and tears recognized by your peers is a mark of respect that validates your talent. Deep down inside, every player is self-conscious; every player wants to know that he's good enough.
That, however, has been lost in the politics.
Here's how Pro Bowl voting by players -- who get a third of the overall vote; the other two thirds go to coaches and fans -- went down inside the locker room when I played ...
Coaches don't want the Pro Bowl voting to interfere with the flow of the workday, so we were usually handed a ballot at the end of the day, when we were exhausted and ready to go home. We could not vote for our own teammates. Also, as a defensive player, I could only vote for offensive players, and offensive players could only vote for defensive players.
As much as we valued our peers' recognition, we were so inundated with breaking down film of our practices and the next opponent that we couldn't really see the whole league play. Some of the names were foreign to us, especially those belonging to players in the Pacific Northwest.
So the conversation during the voting process usually consisted of asking teammates about players they'd gone up against and who they liked. We are human and have our biases; if you or your teammates didn't like somebody for some reason, you wouldn't vote for that player.
There was another factor at work: Though we couldn't vote for the star players on our own team directly, we could vote for the long-shot candidate at those positions, thus boosting our teammates' chances....
.... The Pro Bowl is an auspicious occasion. To maintain its integrity, the selection process has to change. I believe half of the voting should be determined by NFL pro scouts, while the other half can still be done by coaches, players and fans. Pro scouts can determine the best of the best more accurately than anyone, because of the amount of time they spend breaking down film on players.
Maybe then, performance will finally matter.

Meh the pro bowl has been a joke lately. The line men don't even try on pass plays any more.

I had never really thought about it that way. It's kind of funny (and definitely realistic) to think that a lot of players get picked to the Pro-Bowl because they are well liked by their peers and coaches.

Just using this as an example but let's say you're a NY Giant and you want your teammate Victor Cruz to make the Pro Bowl. The competition is fierce and deep down you know he's not among the Top 4 at his position this season. Instead of voting Dez Bryant or Roddy White you'll use your vote tactically on a wily but average vet like Santana Moss or your old buddy Mario Manningham. Crafty.

I wish I had Peanut's genitalia in my mouth. It would be an honor to have that sort of fumble forcing greatness inside of me. Unfortunately, I sit at my laptop empty mouthed so I will say it again: you shut your mouth or I will beat you up. If you want to criticize a Bears corner, criticize the other one.

This thread needed a bump: Von Miller out of the Pro Bowl due to a minor injury, Justin Houston to replace him. The Chiefs are the first team in NFL history to send 6+ people to the Pro Bowl with less than 6 wins.

You never know he could still get a call up.
I didn't vote, but i'm assuming he wasn't on the ballot. Would've been funny if he was and got voted in.
