He can still play all around the corner OF spots, 1b, 3B, and work at 2B some more.

Seems like our system is significantly deep with position players then with pitchers.
Every position has at least a couple of interesting youngsters. We are especially deep with middle infielders and 1b.
Pitching wise, we have some talented guys, but most of them are struggling with command. Not counting Mejia, Dillon Gee is the only one who has been impressive so far. We'll see what Holt does once he comes back.
Ok, my 9,999 post is about Mets' prospects. Now what should my 10,000 post be about? :)
|
BPA at every spot except for the 1st round. I want a pitcher in the 1st as I always do.

What have you seen that makes you think he can play anywhere but 1B? Whose going to the bench at any of those spots to make him a platoon player? What he should do is go to the minors and actually try and learn to play any one of those positions to make himself useful.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. He was fine in the OF in 08 and he still showed decent range. 09 was a disaster and then it snowballed on him. If a player needs a day off he can fill in at a spot if neccesary and still be a good bat off the bench. I want him to go to AAA to work on the positions more when he gets healthy.

Man when Kirk gets in a hot streak it's light out for the other team. Yesterday he was 5-4 4 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, and 4 RBI. Today so far he's 1-3 with another 2B. Lutz is on fire hitting his 5th HR of the year this afternoon.

Nice Houdini act by Pelfrey.
David is really struggling right now. I'm concerned.
In the Minors, Familia with a good start. I've been looking forward to seeing St. Lucie rotation the most, but they've struggled with command so far.
What happened to Holt? Injured again?

Holt just got back on Saturday. They didn't want him throwing that much so I think he went 3 innings. I have no idea when Havens will be back though.
The St. Lucie rotation has been not as advertised but Familia and Allen had decent starts their last time out.
Flores has been great all year and if he keeps this up for another month he'll probably get bumped up to St. Lucie.
Fuller is now on my radar as a Dillon Gee type. His stuff is average but he seems to have good command.
I'm not worried about Wright yet. He is as streaky a hitter as they come now so I think he'll get it back together. He had a great first 2 weeks so we'll see.

Yeah, I know.
He is a hitter that waits for the ball longer then most, which is exactly why he hits the ball the other way very well and draws a lot of walks.
But his bat speed has to always be top notch. Recently, he has been late on pitches too much.
I hope he solves it soon.

BTW, another prospect is making noise in AA, Jose De La Torre.
He's only 5'-9" 170 and, at 24, he's a bit old for AA, but from what I've read, he has very impressive stuff.

Torre seems to have had some injury problems. If we need help in the bullpen the 2nd half of the season I'm hoping he'll be someone we look at if he continues to do well.

Nice win.
I hope this is a sign of things to come from Maine. If we can get good outing out of all our starters consistently, that would be awesome.

Nothing to saylately except I hope Mejia goes down when Igarashi comes back. I know he's been doing well but still no reason to have him up. I think Parnell can do just as well in this mop up duty.

When do you think we should promote Flores?

No reason to rush him.
I would promote him towards the later part of the season.

Great win. Niese with a strong start and the bats are alive. I hope we keep it up.
In the minors, a trend is developing, our hitting prospects are doing really well but our pitching prospects are struggling.
Case and point, Holt and Havens both played today. Havens did well, Holt got smoked.
As I've said before, next draft needs to be pitching heavy.

As I just said in the MLB thread Niese and Mejia have great curves. It's so fun to watch them drop in and bucle the hitter. I hope Havens can stay healthy now.

So I was looking back for the old 2006 Mets threads to remember some good times but it's gone I think. Does anyone know if they deleted it? I'm sure we all lost a lot of posts from that haha.

I remember that thread. EPIC!
I think Scott restructured the forum since then and the old threads are gone, but the post counts were retained.

BTW GF, I was doing some research on the prospects for the 2010 MLB draft. This draft class seems a bit underwhelming.
It seems like most prospects with top-tier upsides are still raw, while polished prospects have limited upside.
A lot of Mets fans seem to want Whitson. From the scouting report, he seems to project to more like a #2 then an ace.
Cole's name keeps on popping up. He has great stuff, but needs work on command.
And Mets organization seems to struggle a bit teaching command (Allen, Familia, etc.).
What do you think?

Well there are older threads than that one which are still around so I wasn't sure.

I'm just starting to really get into the players and upsides and stuff. As of now I think I want Cole or Covey at 7. It seems like Machado or Colon might be the pick as well. Whitson I wouldn't mind either. I really have no idea though right now as I'm all over the map.

Draft should be interesting. I think there's little doubt we draft a pitcher that can be ready soon though.

I hope so. I want us to get several high-ceiling arms out of this draft.
I've heard we are pretty high on the two SS prospects, Machado and Colon.

Another talented teenage prospect made his debut in St. Lucie yesterday, Wilfredo Tovar.
18 year-old SS got a base hit, stole a base and made a great defensive play.
Our system isn't short on talented position players. Now, pitching on the other hand....

I heard they also like Grandal though I'm not sure where he's from.
I was suprised to see Tovar up in St. Lucie yesterday but it was nice for him to do well in his debut. Wilmer Flores keep tearing it up also which I love to see. Let him put up crazy numbers for 4 months then move him up.
