Default DE Rankings

1. Bjoern Werner FSU
Predominantly played left end across from another top prospect Cornellius Carradine on FSU defensive line. Despite what you read in numerous places Werner's top attributes are not his work ethic and motor. Do not have preconceived notions of this player based on his skin color he is a terrific athlete with an elite burst off the line of scrimmage, he can win with both speed and power and can control his blocker well in the run game. Offers some versatility as he can play both weakside and strongside end and could conceivably play standing up as well.

2. Damontre Moore Texas A&M
Transitioned to down end this year after playing OLB for the Aggies. Offers positional and schematic versatility. Can win with speed, power and leverage but needs to add some more pass rush moves to his repertoire. Isn't a freak athlete like Mingo or Ansah but is a very solid overall player. Seems to have a very high football IQ and his recognition skills are top class. I hate to use this label but he seems like a very safe prospect which is rare at this position. May not have the upside of a number of guys in this draft but will be a starting DE or OLB in the NFL and have good success.

3. Cornellius Carradine FSU
The other Seminole DE ranks as my 3rd rated prospect at the position. Had Carradine not suffered a torn ACL late in the season he may have been my top ranked guy. Carradine is eerily similar to Chandler Jones the professional, not the prospect. He has tremendous length and has a tremendous base. While he doesn't have the elite first step that Werner does his hand usage is very advance for a guy in college. He is also a terrific run defender. If his medical checks out I expect Tank to be a first round pick. Carradine does a great job of setting up the OT for whichever move he wishes to use. He utilises a good bull rush and has a stutter step move where he uses his violent hands to knock away the OT and get under him.

4. Barkevious Mingo LSU
Coming into this year many pegged Mingo as one of the elite prospects in this class. However he didn't live up to expectations and some have soured on him for a lack of production. Mingo can get washed in the run game, needs a far stronger base to play end and really doesn't have many advanced pass rush moves. However what he has cannot be learned or taught. His burst off the line is unmatched in this draft. He literally explodes out of his stance. He also has great length and long arms. When he learns how to use his natural gifts to his advantage he could become one of the top defenders in the NFL. His best fit may come at OLB and he has shown an ability to drop into coverage. Upside is the word with Mingo because he hasn't even scratched the surface on his potential. One of the other things I really like about Keke is his motor is always running. That is not something always associated with athletic freaks like him.

5. Ezekiel Ansah BYU
Much has been made of Ziggy Ansah throughout the draft process because of his impact on games and also the fact that he is "raw". Ansah is inexperienced due to the fact that he has only been playing the sport for a few years however his technique is more advanced than a lot of top prospects in this draft. Ansah profiles as a strongside end or a 5 technique in the NFL and could really be a stud at either position. He was utilised inside a lot during his time at BYU and that has forced him to use his hands more than simply get by with pure athleticism. The buzz was already out on Ansah but after a great week at the senior bowl more and more people are talking about him. A former track star he has the speed to win on the edge but also the power and techinque to win in other ways. Ansah's draft range is so wide at the minute. He could legitmately go top 5 but may also fall to the end of the first.

6. Datone Jones UCLA
7. Dion Jordan Oregon
8. Sam Montgomery LSU
9. Alex Okafor Texas
10. Corey Lemonier Auburn

Jones is a guy who has picked up a lot of hype after the senior bowl but he has been on the radar all year. Converts power to speed really well. Jordan would be a lot higher on a LB list but could also profile as a very good weakside end. Montgomery had a disappointing year but is still one of the top all round ends in this class. Okafor doesn't play the run at all but is a very good pass rusher. Lemonier is a horrendous run defender due to over-aggressiveness but has great athleticism and can drop into coverage - possible OLB

I don't usually do this, but here's mine:

1. Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida St.
2. Ezekial Ansah, DE, BYU
3. Cornelius Carradine, DE, Florida St.
4. Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon
5. Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M
6. Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU
7. Alex Okafor, DE, Texas
8. Datone Jones, DE, UCLA
9. Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU
10. Corey Lemonier, DE, Auburn

Yeah, I guess that looks about right. I also like Quanterus Smith and Michael Buchanan.

1 Damontre Moore - simply, the best pass rusher in the draft, could also play as a 3-4 OLB.
2 Bjoern Werner - non stop motor with a huge upside as he hasn't played football all that long, very strong.
3 Barkivious Mingo - will be a tremendous pass rusher at the next level probably as a 3-4 OLB.
4 Dion Jordan - solid pass rusher who may also excel as a 3-4 OLB
5) Cornelius Carradine - Could have been as high as #2/3 but injuries will drop him on draft day
6) Datone Jones - Solid base 4-3 DE, possibly could play as a 3-4 DE as well.
7) Sam Montgomery - solid DE who can get to the QB
8) William Gholston - Could top this list if he puts it all together
9) Alex Okafor - under appreciated DE, will be a starter at the next level
10) Zeke Ansuh - getting way overhyped based on an all star game where the OL has no cohesion, will need at least 3 years to be productive. Strictly boom or bust.
11) Quanterus Smith - very raw
12) Corey Lemonier - likely only a 3-4 OLB.

Besides his inexperience with playing football, he is facing a DE crop that is very, very solid and moving up just won't be an easy task at that position.

6-8 280+ with 4.6 speed and 40 rep strength would grab the attention of some team earlier than expected....if he tests well he could have a poe-like shoot up

he could really be a nobody, but he could also be Watt, Calais Campbell, and JPP all wrapped into one body...hes just a guy ill be watching, if he falls to the second/third round he becomes well worth the risk

Every one of these DE prospects has real talent but shooting up draft boards this year will be difficult, because there are so many solid DE prospects ahead of him that it is unlikely one can dominate the rest. That said, I see no reason why he won't be a solid starter at the next level.
