Marcus Vick has no credibility in any forum on any topic ever. Can we stop talking about this "issue"? It lends credibility to a non-story.

I'd honestly rather see some kind of legit football all star game in that spot. The Senior Bowl that weekend in an NFL stadium + an NFL Skills Competition and Punt/Pass/Kick contest by non QB/Punter/Kickers would be pretty awesome.

Ravens rookie FB Kyle Jusciskikshiksoehfaklsh must be pissed. Special teams only is what lies ahead for his rookie season.

I can't see [Adrian Peterson] playing til he's 34.
Running backs are like teen idols -- they both have a short shelf life. (Hopefully Justin Beiber will disappear soon.) Peterson may have a chance at Emmitt's record as long they have bad QBs like Christian Ponder and they have to run a lot. OT Matt Kalil and C John Sullivan will help "All Day" Peterson as well.

If UF can remove Aaron Hernandez's name from their Hall of Fame, then why can't the NFL remove O.J. Simpson from their Hall of Fame?

Percy Harvin's injury

Every time the Seahawks plan to change their base offense, somebody gets hurt and they have to scrap it (John Carlson for 2-TE offense, Harvin for a 3-WR offense). FB Michael Robinson must be coming into their dorm rooms while they're sleeping and hitting them with a club so he can remain in the starting lineup. [LOL]

So will the new Dolphins uniforms be approved this Sunday?
I wish they would wear aqua jerseys more often instead of just as a throwback. If their worried about hot weather, then stick with white jerseys but make the helmet aqua. The all white look makes them look like hospital orderlies.

Riley Cooper

This will be the only time anybody cares about him.

Quote:
Like a grown man? Lol. A grown man should be taking responsibility for his actions, not blaming alcohol.
I disagree. If Cooper was drunk, he should have pointed that out in his apology. It's better than people thinking the worst after you go "Kramer" on black people.

That's not what I meant. The apology ought to have been for drunken assholishness, not just one word. No one cares that he was drunk; the ultimate problem is that he crossed a line of basic decency, and everyone knows alcohol was a factor in that. The "out of control" part of what I wrote is obviously the main point.

Quote:
Again, you're telling people what they should and shouldn't be offended by. I didn't even know he was shouting it at a black guy. Shouting "******" at a black person is not the same as shouting "mother-******" and it's ridiculous that you're trying to make out that it is.
Of course it's not the same, but you're just missing the point. It's something especially offensive to a black guy. Like "bastard" might be especially offensive to someone who doesn't know his father, etc. "Mother-******" is a terrible thing to call someone - that's the point. The point is that our culture is so skewed we don't even think about what words mean; instead we just think about whether or not they're culturally-acceptable. That bothers me.

Quote:
So, just to be clear, you're justifying people shouting racial slurs if they're drunk and you're mad at people for being offended by the use of the word "******". That's just ******* stupid.
No, I didn't say that at all. Reread if you need to. I'm mad that this story is pasted all across NFL.com with headlines like, "Can Cooper rebound from this?" etc. It's another media circlejerk that no one would would know or care about if the mouth-breathers at deadspin weren't offering bounties for **** shots and camera videos of athletes saying "******" in lieu of creating journalistic pieces worth reading.

I assure you, there were many a fans who thought he was great, and rooted for him to be successful. The problem is that you know what you've got with him and it's not going to be anything exceptional.

That said, I am not, and I mean this with all sincerity, trying to start another Alex Smith discussion/argument/word-vomiting-whatever in this thread. We've had enough of those.

There was something written in the article to that effect, so what I said was tongue-in-cheek. But Andy Reid does a knack, and I think Kansas City's skill players are more explosive on the whole than San Fran's, so I've got an open mind about it. He's got a good chance to post a career season this year.

I would much rather we pay attention to things that matter with the NFL, like pension issues for retirees, concussion-related items, and the quality of the game. A slip-up by a drunk idiot should not be our focus on any day.
I think it's perfectly fine to publicly take note of it, shame him (and he should be ashamed), and then move on.

There are certain "teachable moments", as we say, and then sometimes a guy is just a drunk asshole and that's that.

He seemed sorry, and he should be. Next.

Referencing the Riley Cooper incident, I'm kind of surprised Goodell came out so quickly saying there would be no league punishment. It seems with him always trying to protect the league image, and currently fighting a murder rep, that he'd try to please the media more. I wasn't for firing Paula Deen, and I'm not for firing Riley Cooper, but since Food Network did in fact fire Paula Deen, it looks like the NFL is once again not living up to the standards of others.

Right or wrong, it seems the NFL is outclassed once again

Paula Deen's situation is far different than Cooper's so let's stop comparing the two. The Food Network's stance on Deen's situation was over-the-top too so there's that.

I'm so over Riley Cooper guys. I say the Eagles players should just kick his ass once after practice and be done with it. Then everyone can move on.

Paula Deen's recipes suck. She deserved to be fired on those grounds alone.

Right or wrong, it seems the NFL is outclassed once again
Considering how often the word is used in the African American community, if the NFL fined every use of the N-word, I'd bet a lot of players would be essentially working for minimum wage.
