Pioli had an interesting take on Geno Smith. And clearly he knows Holgerson...
Maybe part of the disconnect with Smith is his leadership reputation or lack thereof.

It's funny when people claim teams will take prospects like Jarvis Jones and Star Latolelei "completely off their boards". Yeah, I'm sure NFL teams will be passing on those guys if they're still on the board in rd 7.

Pioli sounded like he was high on Ryan Nassib. Now I know which QB I don't want the Chiefs to take.

It is admittedly a dumb argument, but if there is one guy I don't want to ask his opinion about quarterbacks, its Pioli.

Maybe Adam Schefter was right and Matt Barkley will be the first QB.

Most of these former GMs are on the NFL Network because they couldn't find a QB.

He is fast, quick, good after the catch, and he runs good routes. What is not to like?

He is a UT offensive skill player. They pretty much have all sucked the past 15 years, with the exception of Ricky Williams and Jamaal Charles. And maybe Cedric Benson. But we are scrapping the barrel on two of the three there wrt draft position vs value received.
For some reason UT offensive skills guys have been terrible in the NFL.

Go back and watch the Senior Bowl and tell me we are talking about the same guy. He had an extremely difficult time creating separation, and did next to nothing after the catch. His field vision is very poor. The one time he got open deep he looked completely lost locating the ball, and didn't appear to have good field awareness at all. He is blazing fast, but scouts who watch him and think he will be the next TY Hilton will be extremely disappointed, IMO.

I dont care much for the Senior Bowl. I think he is a perfect slot guy and a lethal in the return game. I also do not rate a player off one game or practice. I watch tape. I have seen him catch many deep balls and show the ability to jump to the highest point showing good ball skills. For the one time you did not see him do this, he has 10 where he did.

Well he certainly didn't catch 10 deep balls this season...in fact, he caught 4 passes over 20 yards, which accounted for 179 of his 340 receiving yards, and 2 of his 3 touchdowns. Aside from those 4 catches he averaged less than 8 yards per reception and had 1 TD. He was not very productive at all in his college career, but played in 43 games, which erases the question of him being lost on the depth chart or not getting ample opportunities. He was productive in the return game, I'll give you that. As a receiver, though, I just don't see it; I wouldn't be interested in him sooner than the 6th-7th round. I think there are a whole mess of WR's in this draft that are not as fast but will be much better pros than Goodwin.

I think we've seen the career peak with Alex Smith under Harbaugh.
Yes Andy Reid potentially could maximize Alex Smith's efficiency like Harbaugh did, but I still don't think Smith is a long term franchise QB.
I think he's a more sparkly Kyle Orton.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have posted all of the height, weights, arm lengths, hand sizes, forty times and bench reps for the QB's, RB's, FB's, WR's, TE's, OT's, OG's and C's plus recaps with some thoughts on each position on the site. You can find them all via DC's main Scouting Combine hub at http://www.draftcountdown.com/featur...ingCombine.php.
This weeks podcast will also be devoted to an in-depth breakdown of everything that happened in Indy. We will most likely have one of this year's Workout Warriors on as a guest as well.

The 10 balls was a figure of speech. I will say I did not watch all his games. But what I did see was a guy who can play slot and be a very good returner. As for his stats, and why they aren't better, it could come down to a utilization problem. By no means I am saying 1st rounder here, but I like him and think he would be a great value pick. There is no way he makes it out of the 4th. He can be a poor-mans Harvin or Cobb and with the right coaching exceed that and be a better deep threat. There a lot of ways to get him involved and a defense must respect that speed.
