Interesting results. The champion Team bantx, who finished last year at 16-2, already has double the losses he had all of last year, including an opening night shellacking from the dominant inside duo of Karl Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon from team Tackle.

Team Tackle would suffer badly in that win though, losing Karl Malone for 5 games. He would go 1-4 in that stretch. Now that Malone is back though, we can expect big things. He still needs to get completely healthy though, as Alvin Robertson is out for his next 2 games, though he is still favored in both.

Team fenikz, another heavy favorite going into this year, also suffered from injuries in the first third of the season, losing John Stockton for 3 games, going 0-3 without him. He's healthy now though, and as they are 3-0 with him in the lineup, Team fenikz looks to be just as dangerous as Team Tackle moving forward.

The teams that took advantage of the injuries to Malone and Stockton were Team DG and Team nerv. Both teams expected to finish near the bottom of the league this season, they've each posted 4-2 records to begin the year. Will they be able to keep it up now that Tackle and fenikz are getting healthy? We'll see!

Every team is still in the playoff hunt as we hit the home stretch. Even Team Tackle, who has played far below expectations since the return of Karl Malone (3-3) still has a shot at the playoffs as they sit in last place. And with the talent on that team, all they need to do is get in the tournament and they could very well capture the championship.

After a horrific 2-4 start to the season by defending champions Team bantx, they now find themselves in 2nd place after going on a 5-1 tear, their only loss coming to 1st place Team comahan.

Speaking of Team comahan, they didnt have many expectations coming into the year, as no one predicted them to finish top 2 nor bottom 2. However, they find themselves as the #1 seed as we enter the final third of the year, led by Magic Johnson.

The biggest story of the season continues to be injuries though. After Team fenikz and Team Tackle suffered setbacks early in the year as Malone and Stockton went down, Team fenikz suffered even further just a few games later, seeing rookie stud Joe Dumars go down to injury, missing their last two games (both losses), and expected to miss two more games. He isnt the only one suffering though, as Team DG lost an important piece as well. After beginning the season at 4-2, Team DG lost Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for a two game stretch, only to see star guard Isiah Thomas get hurt right as Kareem returned. Team DG went 0-3 without Isiah, and faces two more games without him.

The playoffs are set!

Team comahan claims the #1 seed in a surprise. Predicted to finish middle of the pack, they didnt so much play above expectations as they simply avoided the injury bug while every other team in the league watched their star players drop like flies. A solid, yet unspectacular team, one has to wonder if this #1 seed will be able to hang in the playoffs if they run into healthy opposition.

Team comahan's opponents in the first round will be Team nerv. Finishing at .500, team nerv was also the beneficiary of avoiding major injuries, as no one on their team has missed more than 2 games at a time. Truly, this has to be seen as a lucky draw for Team comahan, and a prime example of why securing the number one seed was so important. It will be a very tight series, but Team comahan goes in as the slight favorites.

The second playoff game is the one that everyone is looking forward to. Just as much as a lack of injuries was the story for our first playoff game, big injuries to key players are the story for this one.

After starting the season off 2-4 thanks to an injury to all-world rookie Karl Malone, things didnt get too much better for Team Tackle when he returned, going just 3-3 during the second portion of the season. Boy did things change down the stretch run. Finally completely healthy, Team Tackle dismantled the competition en route to a 5-1 finish, their only loss coming in the final game of the season to Team comahan as they were forced to play without James Worthy. And therein lies the problem for Team Tackle. James Worthy is likely to be out for the first 4 games of these playoffs. One has to assume that with Worthy, Team Tackle are the favorites to win the Trophy... but they have to dethrone the reigning champions WITHOUT Big Game James before they can do that.

Team Bantx, who also began the season very poorly at 2-4, has picked up the pace just as much as Team Tackle. Finishing with the same 10-8 record as their first round opposition, Team Tackle took the tiebreaker thanks to a 2-1 series win in the regular season. Things will be different in the playoffs though, as both teams are missing a key piece. Not only will James Worthy miss the first 4 games of the series for Team Tackle, but The Chief Robert Parish will be forced to sit out the first two for Team Bantx. This will presumably put Team Bantx into a hole heading back home for game 3, as Bill Cartwright is no Robert Parish. But when The Chief comes back, might things swing in favor of the defending champion? One thing's for sure, it promises to be a hell of a series, with the winner likely to head into the finals as the predominant favorite to win the title.
