Aaron Rodgers to get 4 yr deal worth more than $100 million
Wow just wow
Quote:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live that Aaron Rodgers' impending extension with the Packers is expected to be worth over $100 million across four years.
"This is a very simple deal to do for Aaron Rodgers," said Schefter. "There are many people around the league who are expecting a four-year, $25-plus million extension a year. ... That's how that deal is going to come down when it comes down."
Schefter confirmed the Packers have been preparing to complete the new deal this offseason, sitting on their salary cap space to lock up Rodgers through age 35. Rodgers is 29 years old. His current deal has two years left.

smart move, if they let his current deal expire they are going to end up paying $30 million a year for an older QB

It should be noted this is an extension to the old contract, so it will basically be a 6yr 120m contract. Depending on what their cap space looks like this year, it could also include a raise in the next two years

Exactly. Basically the same as Brees and Flacco, which means is still a deal for Green Bay.

Waiting for someone to come in this thread and explain how Rodgers isn't worth this contract extension.

They're about $21 Million under the cap and they can clear more space if they cut Finley. The rumor is that they want to frontload the contract as much as possible.

If anyone in the NFL deserves a massive raise it's Rodgers. But I'm interested to see how these teams with super highly-paid QBs are able to build teams around their franchise QBs.

He had this coming, glad it's on par with the highest paid. He might be worth more than that.

Or that he might not see the end of that contract.

He'll be extended again. So let's not go there.

I was hoping it was going to be like 6 year $80 million but I know he is worth it and deserves it. I just hate having that much of a cap hit.

Everybody is paid what they're worth. Even if Ryan Leaf was paid $25 million per year, he's worth $25 million per year.

This situation is vastly different than the Joe Flacco contract. Firstly, Rodgers is a much better QB. He has the ability to win in spite of the talent around him. Secondly all the really big money is placed later in the contract where the cap will be likely much bigger.

Yeah he is definitely worth it. I was hoping he would get more to take up more GB cap room.
