Default Barkley to Eagles

They can have him. I don't think he'll ever be better then a back-up.

How many are they going to carry?

Vick, Foles, Dixon, Barkley. Who's out?

Dixon is probably the odd man out, but the competition should be interesting. I like that Philly has had a pretty safe draft.

Foles will probably be dumped for a late rounder, a future pick or released. Thats not Chip's guy.

The idea that Chip HAS to have a running QB is just simply incorrect.

And Chip was who the Pats went to when they wanted to speed up their offense, Chip can run an offense similar to their look with Barkley or Foles. Obviously hes not going to limit himself thats why he kept Vick and brought in Dixon but the different QB's prove hes not married to any particular scheme....just that hes going to run it with tempo.

If you consider that Barkley was a 1st round lock if he came out in the 2012 draft, getting him in the 4th round a year later at relatively little risk is not a bad idea at all.

He clearly struggles with pressure, so he's not elite prospect, but if he has a great OL (see: 2011), he can definitely play at a high enough level to be a quality NFL starter, imho.

I think one of the more interesting points brought up today by Mayock or Davis (the only two guys with that much knowledge and insight) was regarding Chip Kelly's tenure as coach of New Hampshire and how he had pocket passer's running that uptempo offense.

The Eagles have become one of the more intriguing teams now. I think either Dixon or Vick are going to be shown the door before Foles is. Kelly realizes that in the NFL you need to limit the hits a QB takes which is why he went up and snatched Barkley. Brady and Manning run an uptempo passing game and throw for tons of TDs, sure it may not be sexy but the end result is points and not how they are scored. It's going to be weird seeing Barkley in a Philly uniform as it was the last place I thought he would end up.

The NFC east has alot of quality young QBs - Griffin, Cousins, Nassib and Barkley. I wonder if Johnny Football is the apple of Jerry Jones eye in the next year or two.

Barkley will be the starter in 2014.
Sit him for a year and let Vick get lumped up while Skip experiments with his Ducks' offense against NFL defenses.

Then in all likelihood they will finish dead last in the NFC East in 2014.

Kelly hasn't proven anything and I guarantee you, unless he finds a real franchise QB, his tenure will be short.
RG111 is the only solid young QB in the NFC East, the others are very, very average.

I always find it a joke when people predict where he would have been drafted if he had come out for the 2012 draft, nobody has a clue because in 2012, he never went through the post season process to establish his draft spot.

Griffin is ahead of the other three guys but Nassib, Cousins and Barkley all have very good potential - I wouldn't go label them as "very, very average". People seem to forget that Griffin's best game was against the worst defense in the league (Saints) and Cousins had an equally impressive start against a solid Browns defense.

It will be interesting to see how the teams are modifying their defenses to play against the spread option. Griffin needs to prove he can play through a whole season without missing time due to injury.

That's true, but Nassib, Cousins and Barkley all need to prove that they can play in the NFL at all.

So at this time last year Russell Wilson was nothing more than a 3rd round pick who would need a miracle to succeed. Not sure that where someone is drafted is totally relevant.

RG3's best game wasn't against the Saints.
He had two 4 TD passing games against the Eagles and Cowboys.

People still don't understand the spread option used by Seattle/Skins/49ers isn't the foundation of their offenses. It's a variation that probably accounts for 10-20% of their total plays in any game where the QB actually runs.

Most of the time it's the fake to the RB or the extended handoff element from the spread option most teams are really never going to figure out, because it forces a defender to react first, and the QB reacts based on how a defender reads the play.

BTW all those guys are average compared to Robert, which isn't to say they don't collectively have starting potential.

I laugh at people who think the spread option is going to be 'figured out' in the NFL.
Wait until Shanny finds a speed back to put into the backfield with Alfred Morris and Griffin so he can run the spread-triple option.

THe Skins experimented with it last year, but didn't have the right RB/WR.

You know how defenses are going to figure it out? When defenses start putting $100 million dollar QB's on their ass everytime they run the ball or carry out a fake, they will stop running it. Teams won't put that type of investment at risk like that. Part of what makes the read option work is the fake that the QB makes after they give it to draw defenders away....now they are getting ear holed when they do it? Not gonna last.

In the college game defenses are told to put option QB's on their ass everytime they run an option look to make them play timid...only a matter of time until it happens in the NFL.

Except the fake is carried out oftentimes between the tackles behind the LOS.
I just don't see two defenders penetrating at the same time and tackling BOTH the QB and RB.

That extended handoff can just as quickly become a playaction pass, which was often the case last year for the Skins. And people wondered why it looked like RG3 had WRs running clear with no defenders within 5 yards.

It was rare last season to see RG3 and Almo get outside the OT and try to run the option. They tried that in the Cincy game and RG3 took some of his biggest hits of the season.

If your defense can bank on a DT/LB or LB/DE combo penetrating at will against the Skins Oline on any given play, I'd give that squad the 'W' right now and forfeit the game.

Here's the thing. If I tell my guys to just tackle RGIII every time they're through rather than trying to read the ball, that'll end the option right quick cause either RGIII's gunna get hurt, get timid, or Shanny will get un-********.

It will be interesting to see how the teams are modifying their defenses to play against the spread option. Griffin needs to prove he can play through a whole season without missing time due to injury.
If you are thinking these bums can hold a candle to RG111, I think you are being ridiculous. RG111 if he stays healthy is headed to the HOF, the other 3 will be out of the league in 3 or 4 years.
