The comparison to Ryan Leaf was nothing about his on-field physical abilities.

Matthew Stafford's family has money too and he was known to hang with the young ladies and tip a few brewskies.

When you look at Johnny's indescretions individually he is nothing more that a 20 year old college student having himself some fun. When you look at it in total you have to start wondering where his priorities are.

My guess is it'll all die down when the season starts and people start focusing on the football aspect of the subject. He will still appeal to some franchise desperate to hit it big in the draft so i don't think anything has really changed all that much.

So? Manziel is taking it to extremes.
A normal 20 year old? He is not a normal 20 year old. That goes out the window win you win the Heisman.

Hopefully Manziel plays this season and avoids the NCAA sanctions. Cam Newton successfully parlayed on one successful season in the SEC to become the 1st overall QB taken in the draft. He had plenty of character concerns like the stolen laptop incident at UF and the Pay for Play scandal, not to mention his penchant for not being able handle adversity very well.

The people who compare Leaf and Manziel are asses. Manziel as a football player is ******* gamer, he plays hard and loves the game - Ryan Leaf was a douche who could not take the on field criticism related to the football aspects of the game, he did not want to put in the work to get better. Manziel's issue is being a 20 year old immature kid who has some growing up to do off the field, on the field it's obvious to see he is a great competitor and enjoys playing the game.

What has everyone seen of Luke Joeckel's little brother Matt? He profiles as a better NFL prospect anyway.

read the underlined then re read the posts about leaf. no one is comparing their games. no one, so you can stop that charade right now. theyre comparing there personalities. Theyre saying that his lack of maturity reminds them of leaf. I think leaf was far more immature as Manziel has been relatively collected (albeit immature by not taking responsibility) during interviews, but leaf was also an *** away from the cameras to his team and manziel pushed a grad assistant.

to me, manziel is leaf lite, but he still has time to grow up. or continue doing what hes doing. as of now, things dont look too good. the partying is eh, he is in college, but he does say stupid things on a regular basis. add to that all the traveling and rich kid stuff, which endears him to exactly no one (no one likes the super rich kids who flaunt it), and its easy to see why some people are soured on him.

Very small resume so far. Not sure how he profiles as a better NFL QB unless you're basing it solely on size.

LOL. I don't think Christian Ponder is capable of making 2/3 of the throws Manziel made in those highlights.
I still don't see Manziel's arm strength as a limiting factor in the pros.
LSU and Alabama defensive backs still weren't able to get their hands on any of his passes, sometimes with Manziel throwing into triple coverage. Good enough for me.

You can build an offense around this guy, bootlegs and rollouts that utilize his mobility and win in the pros with Johnny Football.

He's clutch, an insane playmaker and his accuracy is severely underrated.

The Vikes would be better off IMO with Manziel long term than Christian Ponder.

Tarkenton 2.0.

It's an old skool comparison but there's no other player who's game is more similar.

I think the worse part about this is he is bringing this attention to himself.

Manziel is just as if not more athletic than Newton. The way the NFL is trending being 6'5 250+ isn't required to be a good NFL QB. People have said Manziel is bigger than Brees and has a thicker body than people expect. Manziel has plenty of arm strength and is very accurate with the ball. His domination of the SEC was much more impressive than Newton's considering he was a freshman while Newton had a few years playing in JUCO.

How is he bringing attention on himself? Because he posts **** on Twitter TMZ ESPN wants to get ratings/visitors, so they write articles about him and talk about him all the time. This is the same thing that happened with Cam Newton.

You can't be serious Brent. Yes, because twitter is the only thing he is doing that is bringing attention to himself. Not the courtside seats, not flying to Toronto to hang with Drake, not taking trips basically to every big event and then finding out the next morning there is a new drinking story. Wearing the Tim Tebow jersey?? Going to a frat party AT TEXAS! where obviously kids will be looking for trouble...

How about when the first negative attention came about, maaaaybe he should have just hid low until the season started but no...he wants the attention.

C'mon, be real Brent and not a homer.

You don't think it's a tad ridiculous that people give a **** about him having court-side seats? Who cares if he went to Toronto to hang out with Drake? If you had that offer and your parents could afford to pay for you to do that, what is the harm? And, really, underage drinking? No football player has ever done that!

What I don't get is why he should "have just hid low". Did going to an NBA game or Toronto affect his ability to do school work and play football? Did he miss practice? Was he committing any foul acts? People act like he's out drinking & driving or beating up women.

Also, A&M being my alma mater has nothing to do with this; though, that's always a fun retort on this forum. Just because I have a degree from A&M, I'm no long able to talk objectively about this? Good to know.

No, but it is f'n nuts if you think he is just an innocent 20 year old kid at this point that doesn't bring any bad publicity his way.

I remember First Take a week ago Steven A. Smith said that he knows of multiple current NFL stars that have talked to him and explained to him how to act heading towards the NFL while still in college. Obviously, he doesn't give a **** and wants to do his own thing.

The worst thing to me is the parent interview where they say they feel like they are losing their son and that they don't even know him. Sometimes success makes you slightly stupid. Same **** happened to Big Ben when he came in the league and had success as rookie. Until he got in trouble and matured, even his own dad said he felt like he didn't even know his son anymore with the way he was acting after his rookie season.

I'm biased towards FSU players on and off the field, and you're being biased now if you think people are just griping over underage drinking. No one really gives a **** about that or at least I don't, but the situations he keeps putting himself in is too much when you are the reigning HEISMANN winner, you know people will be watching every damn move.

Manziel is like the anti-Tebow.

Haters gonna hate but at the end of the day he will be a successful NFL QB.

That remains to be seen...but he is hurting his draft stock left and right.

I think the trouble with Manziel is that we have no trouble imagining the words "Haters gonna hate," come out of his mouth.

For me, it isnít just an isolated incident. Itís a collection of choices where heís exercised degrees of poor judgment. If the most recent allegations are true, and an investigation bears that out, then heís got even more explaining to do to NFL teams. With his access to his parentís cash and his awareness of his national profile, thereís no reason to meet with an autograph broker at a sizeable social gathering at his apartment to sign memorabilia. Thatís asking to get caught. I know Manziel feels like some of these stories are the result of a witch hunt against him, and thatís fine, but heís not doing much to dissuade the tabloid media culture that surrounds him. Each week thereís a new reason to follow him.

From a pro perspective, the ghost of Matt Leinart doesnít help him either. The common threads between great NFL quarterbacks are commitment and competitiveness. All great quarterbacks want to be the best quarterback. For better or worse, itís their singular focus. If NFL teams get the impression that Manziel is more concerned with being recognized alongside celebrities than recognizing a rotating cloud coverage on third-and-long, then heíll fall in the draft. Hard. Because even though their quarterbacking skill sets are different, like Leinart, heís just not gifted enough to survive on pure talent alone as he parties like the rich and famous.

Now, thereís still time to mature, of course. But itís hard to be the team that takes the shot on that maturation occurring when his parents claim to not even recognize their own son and heís surrounding himself with a bunch of friends that worship the ground he walks on. And trusting one of his friends to ďmanageĒ him based on the fact that he mightíve attended a few three hundred-level business classes. The best thing he could do is hire an agent that will challenge and push him even when he doesnít want to be challenged or pushed.

Not only is this guy a party animal with no maturity or work ethic, but he's also 6'0" at most with limited physical tools.

Honestly, at this point, you'd be crazy to draft this guy any higher than the 3rd round of the draft if you're an NFL GM.

Johnny Manziel is not 6'0 either. Look at the picture of him with Chris Paul. Paul measured in at 6'0" but don't NBA players measure in shoes? Manziel is slightly shorter, so even in shoes, he probably would measure in at about 5'11" 3/4. Subtract a half inch for shoes (maybe more I don't know) and he is just a hair over 5'11 max.

Chris Paul is 5 11" at best. Manziel is 5 10" at best.
