Best DE duo in the league
My homerism is pulling me to the way of Will Smith/Charles Grant.
However in maybe 2 or 3 years I think it'll clearly be Osi Umenyiora/Mathias Kiwanuka.
Your thoughts?

Schobel/Kelsay. Haha.
But seriously...it used to be Peppers and Rucker. Freeney/Mathis isn't bad either.

Right now, Grant/Smith are really good, but you also have to give some props to Strahan/Umenyiora (if healthy) and Peppers/Rucker. The Cowboys' pass rush is also quite formidable.

Orpheous Roye and Robair Smith. Before that the best tandem was Roye and Alvin Mckinely.

Purely passrushing, they're definitely near the, if not at the top. But neither is known for their runstopping abilities. I really don't know who this is anymore. Last year it was Osi and Strahan for sure but they both had down years due to injury this year.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with the DE duos. The important thing is the defensive line as a whole.

Ravens DE's deserve a mention, either in the 3-4 or 4-3.

Got to be Seymour and Warren from the Pats. For sure.
Hon. Mentions to Strahan/Osi and Castillo/Olshanky.

Terrell Suggs and Trevor Pryce. Can rush the passer and stop the run at top levels.

This is unquestionably the Giants duo. I can't believe this is even a debate. Take them away from that defense and it's the worst in the league.

I could say the same thing about New Orleans. Antonio Pierce is leagues better than any Saints' linebacker. As for the secondary, both are pretty awful. Strahan doesn't have a lot left in the tank. Meanwhile, Charles Grant, Will Smith, are both in their prime.

Freeney and Mathis get a bad rap as balanced DEs, thanks to how the coaching staff is playing them. Or was playing them, as once the 06 playoffs started they finally tweaked the defense to have the ends play the run more. I dearly hope it stays that way in 2007.

The candidates stay the same either way: New England with their trio of Top 20 picks in Seymour, Wilfork, and Warren; and San Diego with Castillo, Williams, and Olshansky.
I'd probably give the nod to the Patriots either way, although I think Jamal Williams is the best 3-4 NT in the game.

New Orleans' defense is already one of the worst in the league.

I would also say the patriots d-line as a whole over the chargers, but you really can't go wrong either way
