Default My Final 53 (Long)

Without looking at other team's cuts, this is what my final 53 would look like based upon watching each preseason game once:

QB (3) (3)
Alex Smith
Chase Daniel
Tyler Bray

Self explanatory.

RB (4) (7)
Jamaal Charles
Knile Davis
Cyrus Gray
Anthony Sherman (FB)

Draughn and Gray are toss ups to me. Gray left a better impression last so he gets the nod. Only carrying one fullback as its just not a valued position.

WR (6) (13)
Dwayne Bowe
Donnie Avery
AJ Jenkins
Junior Hemingway
Josh Bellamy
Frankie Hammond Jr.

Probably a surprise in that I'd cut McCluster and Wylie. I don't think you'll ever get anything out of McCluster aside from the occasional make a guy miss and score. I don't think he'll be consistent, and Wylie is proving to be injury prone. Also, neither can be counted on on special teams aside from returning, and there are better options. I think Avery, Jenkins, Bellamy and Hammond all fill the Philadelphia Andy Reid body type of a receiver. Of course, I think in reality McCluster will make it and Bellamy will be cut.

TE (3) (16)
Anthony Fasano
Travis Kelce
Kevin Brock

I'm assuming Moeaki will be IRed or injury settled and released. Harris I think is a project you try to get on the practice squad and develop. Don't be surprised if Brock and Kelce flip flop. Brock has taken advantage of his opportunities and Kelce has been injury prone.

OL (8) (24)

Branden Albert (T)
Eric Fisher (T)
Donald Stephenson (T)
Jeff Allen (G)
Jon Asamoah (G)
Geoff Schwartz (G/T)
Rodney Hudson (C)
Eric Kush (C)

I think they have a good blend of depth here. Kush has athleticism and talent but needs to get stronger and will probably be better after a year of pro strength training. Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to sneak him on the practice squad, but I'm not sure who else can snap. Allen, Asamoah and Hudson need to become more dominant in the run game, but I'm trusting as they get reps with Charles and Davis they'll pick things up. Schwartz would be first in if a guard is injured, Stephenson if a tackle is injured. Albert and Fisher will be fine.

DL (8) (32)
Tyson Jackson (E)
Dontari Poe (N)
Mike Divito (E)
Allen Bailey (E)
Jerrell Powe (N)
Anthony Toribio (N)
Marcus Dixon (E)
Austen Lane (E)

I believe this is undoubtedly the Chiefs weakest position. Powe appears to be next nose in line. Toribio hasn't shown much this preseason or in 2+ years. The ends are solid in run defense, but pass rush is a weakness. I'd be scouring the waiver wire for defensive linemen.

LB (9) (41)
Tamba Hali (O)
Justin Houston (O)
Derrick Johnson (I)
Akeem Jordan (I)
Nico Johnson (I)
Frank Zombo (O)
Edgar Jones (O)
Josh Martin (O)
Ridge Wilson (O)

Lot of outside linebackers, they're going to have to carry themselves on special teams, but they consistently showed up rushing the passer. I'd start Jordan over Nico. I like the experience, and when given opportunities he made the most of them and I felt Nico didn't. Tamba, Houston and DJ you know what you got. Catapano I'm trying to sneak onto the practice squad. Didn't see much from him.

DB (9) (50)
Brandon Flowers (C)
Sean Smith (C)
Dunta Robinson (C)
Jalil Brown (C)
Eric Berry (S)
Kendrick Lewis (S)
Quinton Demps (S)
Husain Abdullah (S)
Tysyn Hartman (S)

I think these are pretty settled and I like this group. Demps of course will be one of the primary kick returners. I like Hartman but he seems to be a liability in coverage. He might have a chance to stick just as a special teamer. I hate cutting McDougald cause all he did was make plays. Try to sneak him onto practice squad.

Specialists (3) (53)
Ryan Succop
Dustin Colquitt
Thomas Gafford

PUP/IR (2)
Sanders Commings (S)
Tony Moeaki (TE)

Practice Squad (7)
Toben Opurum (FB)
Mike Catapano (LB)
Darin Drakeford (LB)
Rokevious Watkins (G)
Bradley McDouglad (S)
Steven Baker (T)
Rico Richardson (WR)

I think each of these guys showed enough to be kept around on the PS. Catapano more so because he is a draft pick, although I could switch him and Harris out.

The only thing I disagree with is WRs. I think McCluster and Wylie both make it. Bellamy and Hammond JR cut in their place.

There is no way McCluster get's cut. Andy Reid wanted to draft him with the Eagles. I'm sure he has all kinds of plans for him that weren't shown in per-season.

Should've prefaced it better. This was my 53 man, not what I think will actually happen. I'm confident this will be the last year of the McCluster experiment, as he is too small, injury prone, not all that fast comparatively, and not able to consistently out-quick NFL defenders. He brings nothing to the running game, only a little to the passing game, and would be about 4th on my returner depth chart. Dante Hall, he is not.

Tony Moeaki and Tysyn Hartman cut. Not surprised by Moeaki, surprised by Hartman. Thought he played well and would be good depth for us.

Hartman's a liability in coverage and the Chiefs have many other safeties that can play in the box and contribute on special teams.
