Way too early to write Smith off, the next 2 years will tell the story. I suspect he will start this year for the 1st time but he has contributed in the past and should only get better with experience.
Fans regularly whine about any CB who isn't Darelle Revis or Deion Sanders. There seems to be this belief that any starting CB who doesn't shut down WRs every week is terrible.
Yeah if the litmus test for whether a 1st Rd CB is a bust is whether he goes into the HoF than your expectations are too high. If a player taken in the 1st turns out to be Jonathan Joseph I think most GMs would consider that a win.
To me, I think you give guys 3 years to develop. If you don't show anything in year 3, than you can start considering it as a failed pick. QBs, I'd say you give 4-5 years in the evalauation process if they're showing flashes and more good than bad.
Smith: I was pretty high on him in 2011 coming into the draft. However I haven't seen much from him nor watched enough. The games I've seen him in, he didn't look horrid. If he's not earning the job this year, then I'd say its concerning for a former 1st round pick.com
