Default 2013 49ers Gameday Thread: Week 2 49ers at Seahawks.

This is it. The game everyone has been waiting for in the NFL landscape. Last time we went up there it was just an old fashioned ass kicking. Sure we didn't have Justin Smith and sure we had just traveled across the country after playing the Patriots in a high scoring affair, but excuses aside we were dominated. Plain and simple. I'm hoping the 49ers rise up to the challenge and not humiliate themselves like last time. The Seahawks are favored and understandably so. The 49ers are underdogs, but not by that much and the public perception of this team not having a chance in a hostile environment has faded since last season.

Anyways, I like our chances in this game. The team has hasn't traveled outside California since before the home game against the Vikings in the preseason about a month ago. And Justin Smith will be at full strength. Kaepernick will be facing the best secondary in the NFL. I don't think he'll pass for 400 yards. I have faith in him at least having a respectable game though. The noise will be something they have to deal with, but if they can get up early it will make it a lot easier. If the 49ers get behind by multiple scores early like last year it might be another ass whooping. Alas, I predict a win as the 49ers usually play well with their backs against the walls. I'm going with Frank Gore to be the hero of the game with a fantastic rushing performance, which means our offensive line will dominate at the line of scrimmage. It's going to be a blood bath. We really need to just cut down on penalties (we had 11 last week) and focus on tackling better.

Every season I mark the @ Seattle game down as a loss. It's a pretty unfair place to play. That stadium should have never been allowed to be built in that manner. It really changes the game. In no way is it a dig at their fans, just that any fanbase would have the same effect in that venue.

Kinda cool to finally have a rival. Haven't really had one in the division. Rams just felt forced. We destroyed them for about 2 full decades in a row and the rest of the division came through re-alignment. But damn, these 2 teams genuinely hate eachother.

Looks like Brandon Browner is doubtful. I don't think he played last year either.

We're definitely a lot healthier than we were last December in regards to the defense. If we shutdown Lynch, I think that we'll win unless our secondary implodes.

Offensively, I still see Kaepernick going over 300 yards and at least 2 TD's. Should be a great battle but in the end, 49ers win 24-20.

I'm beyond frustrated with Roman. Get out of the read-option! Its bogging down the offense. You have to get back to the power run game and maul their O-Line. That's how we've been successful against Carroll's defense. Use their pentrating style against them with counters and traps. And they haven't use Boldin like they used him against the Pack and he can't get off the line. Against all this man coverage, we should be using bunch formations and a lot of stacked WR sets. This is a HORRBILE gameplan.

49ers are playing like **** on offense. The line can't block, the receivers can't get open, and Roman can't call plays. Even Kaepernick seems immune to common sense.

Halftime. Defense has been great. I feel bad for them because the offense hasn't done ****. The playcalling is garbage, the line can't block for a second straight week with the run and now the pass, the receivers can't get open or just get off the jam, and Colin Kaepernick is making dumb decisions when the right ones are available.

Unless there is a magical turnaround and our offense actually starts doing something, the game is over.

Its the offensive gameplaning. How the hell you DON'T know that Carroll is going to play primarily press-man until you prove to him that you can gash him with the run? And then you don't run ANYTHING to counter press man? It makes absolutely no sense to me, why we keep trying to force the read option against a gap-clogging, attacking defense. There's no motioning in the offense, no mis-direction, no real offense. I understand the noise is a huge factor but you can't run a quarter of your playbook because you afriad of the noise. Our offensive coaching is better than this and they've shown it, over and over. But every once in awhile they have these "WTF" games where your wondering what excatly did they study and prepare for all week.

See what Im saying? As soon as Roman finally gets away from the read-option, now the offense can play-action off the power-run and get a into a nice rhythm. Even though CK missed a open Patton in the corner of the end-zone, point is we moved the chains and actually looked like a offense. Its not rocket-science. They wanna press-man all night, you run it right down their throats. Still have Boldin outside way too much but one step at a time I guess...

How we are so inept? I just don't get it. We looked like a #1 pick team tonight, not a SB winner. That too against a team that was just mediocre last week against a bad team in Carolina. It just doesn't make sense.

I'm not too worried about the loss. ALOT more concerned about the injuries. Seattle did what they were supposed to do....hold serve at home. And its only week 2. A lot of season left to be played.

A lot of concerns about the offensive gameplan/play-calling. Not sure who thought the read option would be the way to go against this defense. We just looked over-matched against their scheme. They shouldnt be this befuddled against Seattle. We play them twice every year. Didn't see ONE stacked formation or bunch set to help out the WRs against the press. CK looked rattled and seem to let the pressure get him. He missed some open guys and seemed to rush everything in the pocket. That's twice now a JH team has looked unprepared to face Carroll. The approach has to change. They way they attack this defense has to change. We have to get back to the power-run approach against this defense. You can't get cute against Seattle. You have to fire off the line and run directly at them. Not around them. That's how we handled them last year at home. All this read-option is great against undisciplined defenses. But that's not Seattle. Especially not that secondary. Point blank, Roman/Chryst/Morton and JH have to scheme better against Carroll. He has our offense under lock and key. And they better figure it out because they've been embarrassed TWICE now, on national tv.

Nothing bad to say about the defense. They did enough to win this game. Offense did nothing to help them.

The read-option didn't work for us well last year. Reg season running was worse than the start of the year with Smith.

There was 1 exception.
GB playing the worst defense I've ever seen and Woodson being banished back to Oakland, the only team that would have him.

Gore for all his career ALWAYS hits the hole if it was there. I am not seeing much of anywhere for Gore to go.

Nobody needs to be cut. Defense played well. They had no help whatsoever from the offense. We have plenty of time to get our **** together. I put this one on the coaching staff tonight.

Maybe this team is just overrated. We'll see in the coming months.

Okay and you're way too lax, which is equally amusing. Bro, Asomugha has looked horribad in two straight games. He can't cover and he can't tackle. If not cut, demoted. You can't do much worse with someone else, if at all. Hilarious how he was hyped up all preseason.

He looked horrid because he didn't get his head around on ONE play....brillant assessment. How many catches did he give up today? How many yards did Wilson throw for? Like I said, your funny...Aso and the pass defense WAS NOT the problem tonight. Couple of blown coverages(that had nothinng to do with Aso btw) but other than that, they had Wilson tucking and running all night.

And how was his tackling? Because he was trying to get after Casper tonight. The drop off from Culliver has been staggering.

Its the read-option. There have been NO openings in the run game and this offense needs the run game churn out yards, so we can play-action. Gore has nowhere to run. Teams are just blitzing the gaps. That's why we cant go away from what gave us success in the first place...the power-run. CK doesn't need the read-option. We ran very little of it last year in the regular season and he was still successful. Its a wrinkle in our offense but it should NEVER be our entire offensive gameplan, which it was in the first half. ESPECIALLY against good defenses like Seattle. Your not using one of our greatest strengths(our O-Line) at its max potential when you base your entire run game out of the read option. Its liked they were under the read-option spell. Its a wrinkle....they have to understand that. You can't sustain our run game on just the read-option. You just can't, not at this level. Not with this O-Line and not with Gore as the feature back. This offense STILL has to be a power-run team, first and foremost. Everything else clicks after that.

And CK just has to play better at the Link. For whatever reason, he just hasn't performed well up there. He should be much better when we face them at The Stick but he has to find a way to perform better up there and not let the noise affect his play. Hopefully this will now serve as motivation. He seems to thrive on motivation and naysayers. He'll have plenty after tonight.

Can the 49ers beat a good defensive team for a change?

I'm not going to condem him because he whiff against Marshawn Lynch. We had D-Lineman do that all night. And maybe you don't recall how Wilson ran circle around this defense last year at home also. Your pointing the finger at ONE player when the problem is much bigger than Aso.

And if you were expecting him to play like Cully, newflash...he's not Cully, DUHHH! Your expecting a second-stringer to perform like a starter. More times than not, that ain't happening. Its a reason they're second-stringers in the first place. Doesn't mean he needs to be cut. Its only week 2. Give these guys some time to gel and get accustomed to the scheme and the guys around them. Its not how you start, its how you finish. Too much football left for you to be calling for guys to be cut. Knee-jerk reaction at its finest.
