Moss reportedly ran 4.18 40 in college. That comes close. As did Stallworth and Joey Galloway.

I never trust those times. Xavier Carter was the fastest for sure.

I'm not sure how many guys here remember him but I think Michael Bates could've given Carter a run for his money. I have to admit I don't remember watching him in college but he was one of the best kick returners I have ever seen in the NFL. In the 1992 Olympics he ran 200m in 20.38 seconds and took home a bronze medal.

Bo has to be up there he was a beast on wheels !! Rocket should be up there too. Someone that didnt have a superstar career at Miami that was blazing fast in the return game that played at Dallas was Kevin Williams. He only played 2 seasons before going to the NFL but he was fast on the field.

Fastest in pads ever?
Ted Ginn & Deion, not even close. Straight line that is.
Best Burst?
Reggie Bush, Devon Hester, Warrick Dunn.

again, it's carter and it's not close.
he didn't not play because he wasn't good, he didn't play because he was at LSU.. when he DID play, his speed is literarly jaw dropping... I dont think he has the vision as Ginn Jr

LSU's Trinidon Holliday ran a 10.14 this weekend at a SEC championship meet this weekend. TH had a 92yd KR for a TD vs Arkansas. Watch for a huge breakout yr on KR for Holliday this yr as he'll get more opportunities.

The fastest Reggie and Ginn ran in h.s was around 10.3x
UT's Jamaal Charles has ran as fast as 10.1x also.

I'm not sure how so many people can say it's "not even close". Sure Carter is a world class sprinter but so was Michael Bates and Ginn probably could've been if he had decided to focus on track as a career.

He can always try and make that transition back like most track stars try and do

You have to remember Trindon is much better at small distances, since he is a shorter man he can get to top speed much faster than all these other track runners. Granted he might not be the overall fastest ever but I would reckon his 40 time is right up there if not the fastest.
Xavier I know for fact is better at the longer distances, his 40 time might not have been the fastest.
But then again we are talking in pads, football speed, correct?

No love for Bo Jackson here? That dude was incredibly fast. What a specimen.

Read my post, I said IN PADS. Carter pretty much never played.
And what does LSU have to do with him not playing?

LSU has been stacked at WR for a while now.

You dont know what kind of hands Carter had for sure. He never attended LSU football spring practice and played behind Skyler, Bowe, Buster, and Douct. possibly 3 1st rounders right there.

"Along the way, seven LSU athletes won individual champions including Trindon Holliday who broke Xavier Carter's school record in the 100-meter dash (10.08)."
