Don't tell the TV Networks that. Good athlete = good samaritan in their eyes. Unless they cause physical harm to someone.

some of y'all get so caught up in the idea of YOUR family that you forget that YOUR family isn't perfect, and isn't everyone else's ideal family. maybe his mom had reasons for not wanting peterson to play dad. but no, it was clearly a douchebag move, because he should've taken the kid to the zoo or something, the first day he found out.
As usual I never know what you are saying because you never seem to take a side and play tit for tat. But its pretty typical to see the 698,000 media reports stating that ADRIAN PETERSON'S 2 YEAR OLD SON WAS KILLED compared to the 1 honest media report that said ADRIAN PETERSON DIDN'T KNOW THE CHILD HE CREATED WHO WAS KILLED BY SOME SCRUMBAG PIECE OF ****. Which makes me ask the question, why is Adrian Peterson the headline of these reports? To garner more attention? Get more retweets? Sell more papers? To make people stay tuned into Sportscenter for a few extra minutes?

Peterson didn't care for this kid. He didn't know the kid. In all reality there was no reason to even bother visiting the kid in the Hospital, especially if you're gonna drop by for the same amount of time you dropped your dick in the kids mother. "Yup that's a dying baby. Um, hey there... Jeffrey... Alshon... What's his name? Well, I got to go. I'll play real hard for ya. So. Okay. See ya later."

It's not an autograph appearance. It's his kid. Act like it is, or don't. Pick one. That just perpetuates this story that Peterson is facing some significant loss - hiding the fact that Peterson is a closet dirtbag himself that has careless sex with skanks, impregnates women and doesn't care for his children... Until they die or something.

Unfortunately this is how players handle situations when public relation experts decide to step in and manipulate reality. It's phony and it makes me dislike Peterson for perpetuating that story in an attempt to make people feel sorry for him. "I had to find strength." Please. He probably slept like a dead baby. This should be a story about a two year old. Not a sob story for the heartbroken, earth shattered Adrian Peterson.

Edited out some of it but this in essence is EXACTLY how I feel. The story is about the kid. The media needed you to pay attention so it wasn't just another 2 year old beaten to death by some dirtbag so they added Peterson's name to it.

Adrian was in a winless scenario in that if he doesn't show to the hospital he's a thoughtless asshole. If he does show and then leaves to play football he's an thoughtless asshole. If he shows and stays just to appease the media/public then he's lying to himself about the commitment to his previously unknown son.

As far as JMike's comment .. just wow.

Y'know, apparently young children are supposed to more closely resemble their fathers so that they're not abandoned by them.

So take that, science.

Yeah, let's defend the mom that was with a known child abuser. Her judgement is TOTALLY logical here.

That's your son, you have a moral obligation to provide for him. If you're gonna be man enough to stick it in, be man enough to be there when the kid is born.

As the father you shouldn't have to care what the mother or anyone else thinks, if your son is in a crap situation do something about it. Or how about actually care about what he's up to, maybe that's a good start.

I simply don't understand how we can justify not giving a **** about your offspring.

The thing I think I'm being misinterpreted about is, the thing that bothers me the most is how Peterson pretended to care to the media. Look, you don't give a ****, just be real about it. Instead we hear this sob story about how tragic it was for Peterson.

It wasn't. He didn't give a ****.

And if you don't give a ****, while I disagree with that, at the very least don't paint the picture that you do.

That's what annoys me more than anything.

I think we choose who we want to defend morally based on how much we like the athlete in question.

When AP does dirt bag things, it's cool. Here come the excuses. If a guy like Corey Dillon did this, it would be a totally different story.

We are incredibly hypocritical with athlete behavior. All of us. Myself included.

Just call a spade a spade. That's all.

I can't understand why anyone CARES about the inner feelings of an NFL athlete... or any athlete for that matter. You watch them to enjoy the sport. Point blank none of us would turn off the TV if it turned out that the players we watch and root for are murderers, dog abusers, drunk drivers, rapists, or gawd-forbid cheaters. Oh wait all of those are true.

Staph it people. Adrian Peterson could have fathered as many children as 'Cro and it wouldn't matter at all. Does it matter if he's a good person or not for the sake of your fandom?

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I said a couple of pages ago that I root for production on the field, their personal lives are their personal lives.

I can only speak for myself though when I say it annoys me to see when their behavior is defended when honestly we wouldn't defend the same behavior if he wasn't playing football.

I can only speak for myself, and the answer is no, I do not choose who to morally defend based on how much I like the player. I choose not to morally judge players at all. I judge them based on their play on the field and their dedication to the game of football. I dont try to figure out if they are going to heaven or hell. Yes there is some amount of what youre talking about, but it sure isnt coming from me. The fact of the matter is Peterson was dealt a tragic life event, and whether or not he was properly griefstricken over it is really a moot point for us as fans. At least thats how I see it.

Mind telling me how you can be there for the birth of your son if you don't even know he exists? And don't go telling me he should have, people don't just check on women they've ****** to know if they got pregnant from it.

The only thing we know is he learnt he had a kid like two months ago. I'm not saying he did or didn't, but who's to say he didn't actually try to get involved/know him a little/whatever during those two months. Do you know for sure? Who said he never did care? Or try to? And sou can't just jump back into someone's life either. Can't suddenly gain custody of the kid. There are some legal things to consider there. So he didn't miss the game? Makes him an asshole and blahblahblah? Well, he's "known" the kid for two months. And let's say for the sake of argument that he wanted to care about him : he still wouldn't have seen him much because, well, football player, legal issues, different city, etc. In that situation, well I'd be sad. But sad enough to miss a game over it? Nope. Not for a kid I knew, barely, for two months.

How the **** could he know the guy the mother of his child was dating is a psycho? Should we really be expecting him to have run background checks on that guy? Why would he? For all he knew, the man was just a regular everyday normal guy.

But yeah, let's just judge people. Without any real knowledge of anything. Seems like a nice plan.

He had 2 months. It's not exactly 2 days. 2 months. And if he cared, would he leave the kid while he was nearing death?

Come on man. Let's use some common sense here.

And if you wouldn't feel bad for your own kid, then I'm sorry to hear that. I guess not everyone feels the same way about those kind of things.

Sure, he had two months. While going around the country due to his job. While being on the practice field. While living in a different city (in a different state). Let's use common sense yourself : With a NFL schedule, in two months, if he's lucky, maybe he could see the kid, what, 4 to 8 times in the best case scenario? Hardly enough to build much of a rapport.

So yeah, I'd feel bad. Bad enough to miss a game over it? Nah. Not for a kid I barely knew.
