Honestly, Suh is a dirty little ***** so I don't give two shits if he gets fined for hits like that. Act like a piece of **** and you get treated like one.

Suh might be a dirtbag, but he should not have gotten fined for that hit. Ridiculous.

Just trying to figure out why, that gif doesn't show whether or not his helmet impacted Weeden's chin. That could be the only possible reason they'd fine him.

Just want to point out that THAT'S WHAT HE'S SAYING. That Manning was great and he and Polian failed to put a good enough team around him. But asshats like Mike Florio cut a section of a quote, spin it, and post it with a provocative headline to drive readership and therefore advertising. And then people with Twitter-sized attention spans decide Irsay must be "taking a shot" at Manning. Because that makes so much sense.

He was fined for driving his facemask into Weeden's chest. It was a highlighted play on the "behind the scenes" footage of the NFL fine review process.

Essentially this means that Vice-President of officiating with his team decided this was an illegal hit and sent it to Merton Hanks. Then Hanks ruled that it was a fineable offense and thus Suh now owes the NFL money.

Instead of the gif...

And just so this doesn't start a "THAT'S NOT AGAINST THE RULES..." argument...

http://www.nfl.com/static/content/pu...er_Conduct.pdf

See Article 13: Section 3.

Quote:
HITS TO PASSER’S HEAD AND USE OF HELMET AND FACEMASK
(3) In covering the passer position, Referees will be particularly alert to fouls in which defenders impermissibly use the helmet and/or facemask to hit the passer, or use hands, arms, or other parts of the body to hit the passer forcibly in the head or neck area (see also the other unnecessary-roughness rules covering these subjects). A defensive player must not use his helmet against a passer who is in a defenseless posture for example, (a) forcibly hitting the passer’s head or neck area with the helmet or facemask, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the passer by encircling or grasping him, or (b) lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top/crown or forehead/”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the passer’s body. This rule does not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or non-crown parts of the helmet in the course of a conventional tackle on a passer
Essentially the NFL ruled that Suh's mask/"hairline" part of his helmet's contact with Weeden's chest was not incidental in the course of a conventional tackle.

Since it was not incidental it falls under the "(b) lowering the head and making forcible contact with the "hairline" part of the helmet".

To be quite frank that play happens a lot but Suh deserves every penny of a fine he gets. The fact he continues to press the league's buttons by challenging their fines only makes the situation worse for him. He should focus on not taking cheap shots and playing within the rules for a while and the league will stop "picking" on him for not following the rules.

Completely agree.

He basically led with his helmet. Do people get away with that the majority of the time? Sure. Did this fine happen because it was Suh. Maybe. But it's against a rule written in the name of player safety. Head over to the league of denial thread, watch that, and then reassess whether officials should be lenient with helmet calls.

So ^ THAT ^ hit leading with a helmet into a chest is a fine, but below these are not?
Who the hell is making safety & rules decisions these days?
The president of Al Qaeda?

Let's find someone with a brain, figure out which tackles actually do cause the most catastrophic injuries like the guys diving their heads/shoulders into knee & below areas.

If I am not mistaken, all 3 of those puszy-tackles diving into knees were done by rookies.

DJ Swearinger on Dustin Keller.
Matt Elam on Randall Cobb.
And the one on Mughelli was a few years ago... maybe Delmas wasn't a rookie then, but I saw him take missile shots into knees his rookie year coming out of Western Michigan, at my guy J-Mike.

Who the **** is teaching these puszy methods of "tackling"?

Zip it punk.
Guys didn't used to "tackle" like that, diving face down, head forward like a missile, into opponents knees.
You think they always tackled like this?

You accepting this ***** as "tackling" is piss-poor, weak.

J-Mike hates the Vikings, and can't stand the Patriots, Bears, and Lions.

But I'd like to prevent any of them from getting their legs/ACLs blown up.

Believe me, the league WILL sooner or later start legislating these types of puszy dangerous hits... just like they ultimately did with the horse collar, and the going low on QBs.... all good moves.

I'd love njx9 to run a seam route with Delmas, Elam, and Swearinger behind him lurking at safety, and dial in low at his knee.
Of course, he'd have to be able to beat the LB and get behind him, so......

When the human body evolves to the point where the brain is located at the knee, then the NFL will start regulating hits to the knee. Until then, shut up.

He didn't lead with his helmet, his helmet was just there because, you know, he has a ******* head and they're required to wear helmets on their heads. His helmet never touches Weeden in any significant way. He pushed Weeden to the ground with his arms/momentum. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Suh's play there. He started to perform a proper form-tackle on Weeden, then pushed him away when it was too late to matter. He got fined for letting up, basically. Weeden fell down because he's a clumsy ginger.

Suh's done some dirty ass ****, but he does get singled out and harassed by the NFL and the refs.

Despite how mediocre the Ravens and Steelers look, I think it'll be a great game like always.

... It's not my argument it's the NFL. Just tired of people not understanding the NFL rules when they are publicly available. His facemask/"hair line" made contact with Weeden's chest in what was considered a "non-incidental" way. Hence the fine.

This isn't a bunch of suits that never played football divvying out fines. As I mentioned before this is a former NFL safety deciding players are doing illegal things.

I absolutely think this goes un-fined for the majority of players in the NFL but the fact that Suh has called so much attention to himself means he needs to be more straight-edge than the rest to avoid punishment.

Yeah, brain injuries can be deadly. We see this every so often in boxing. As players continue to get bigger and faster, I very much believe that the NFL is afraid that a player is going to die during a game. If you remember, it almost happened to that Lions linebacker back in 1997, I believe it was. We have a few deaths a year at lower levels of football, but those don't really make the news. It would be utterly catastrophic to the game as a whole if an NFL player died as a direct and semi-immediate result of playing football.

Shhh...J-mike doesn't want to hear talks about the NFL encouraging lower hits so there isn't an even remote chance a guy will get hit in the more vital areas of the body.

I mean heck, look at the freak incident with DJ Hayden. Don't lead with the helmet to the core/head is what the NFL is looking at to avoid any life threatening conditions.
I think a player would rather have his career ended up knee injuries than forget most of his life by the time he is 32.
