Suh is a dirty player, but that hit on Weeden is as clean as it gets. There was no flag because it didn't warrant one; he simply pushed him down. So now the NFL is fining players for unflagged hits that can't possibly be seen as illegal when you look at it on film. Goodell is now going past being the Obama of sports commissioners (trying to ruin a country or a sport) and is on his way to Stalin/Hitler/Mussolini territory.

This isn't a bunch of suits that never played football divvying out fines. As I mentioned before this is a former NFL safety deciding players are doing illegal things.

I absolutely think this goes un-fined for the majority of players in the NFL but the fact that Suh has called so much attention to himself means he needs to be more straight-edge than the rest to avoid punishment.
Right again.

I'm gonna go crawl back into the dark corners of this forum far away from posts. At one point, the Pro Football forum was awesome.

My post about Goddell being a dictator was about power-hungry arrogance. I'm not implying that he's killing people; but he IS slowly killing me on the inside [LOL]. A poster on profootballtalk.com said it best: There's a lot of fines being handed out now because the NFL has to pay for the $700M lawsuit somehow.

The fine money goes to charities from what I understand.

It's why players are able to write off their fines as tax write offs, and why they generally don't give a **** about getting fined.

http://nflcommunications.com/2010/12...fine-money-go/

All on-field fine money collected by the NFL is used for charitable purposes. These funds have been used to support retired player programs, including the NFL Player Care Foundation and NFLPA Players Assistance Trust; disaster relief initiatives; and health-related charities.

Quote:
Under federal tax law, on-field NFL fines are considered a business expense, and thus tax-deductible. Fines for off-field issues, such as arrests, are not tax-deductible.
Quote:
"All on-field player fines collected by the league are donated through the NFL Foundation to assist former players in need via the NFL Player Care Foundation and the NFLPA's Player Assistance Trust," said Randall Liu, the NFC director of communications, in an email to Crain's this afternoon.
Quote:
Under federal tax rules, a $100,000 fine would result in a tax benefit of approximately $8,000, so the actual cost to him would be $92,000, said Robert Raiola, a New Jersey-based CPA and sports and entertainment group manager with Fazio, Mannuzza, Roche, Tankel, LaPilusa LLC. He specializes in tax planning for individuals and their families in the sports and entertainment industries.

I remember when the site had new content posted on a regular basis. That helped to drive the discussion a lot; the people who'd post a lot were more in tune with the whole process - college football, the draft process, pro development and the different strategies different levels of football employ. This site has almost no content anymore, so it makes sense that the forums have evolved into a place where fans simply congregate to shout at each other.

That's what I thought too, but what the guy in my post above says Suh could only save 8k on his 100k fine. Maybe that's wrong though.

I'm neither but I do my own taxes and claim lots of things so I kinda understand. A lot of how much you can claim/write-off starts out based on your income. From there, you can only write-off a certain percentage of things and even if you write-off $100K, you typically only get a percentage of that back as a tax credit.

So basically, his $100K fine is actually a donation of $100K to a charity. So he writes that off but because of his income bracket, he can only get 8% of that as a tax credit so he gets a tax credit of $8K

Let me slow this down for you since it's obvious you can't read.

Roger Goodell has ZERO control over what players get fined. He isn't even part of the process.

Now slower I'll say it again.

Goodell isn't involved in the on-field incident review process.

One more time.

Goodell isn't involved.

Got it?

Here's how it works on a stupidly simple level. Officiating staff reviews tape. Vice-President of Officiating chairs a meeting where they decide what plays were illegal and fine-able. Their judgment is passed to Vice President of Football Operations... Merton Hanks (former 49ers safety) to pass judgment on.

Notice how not only is Roger Goodell was not involved in any part of the explanation? It's also fun to realize that a bunch of suits that never touched a football are not the ones with the final say. It's also fun that a DEFENSIVE PLAYER, namely a SAFETY, is the guy making the determination on fineable offenses.

If you want to watch rather than take my word:

http://www.nflevolution.com/article/...p2000000263459

So if you hate the fines that are being processed blame a former NFL safety, again MERTON HANKS, for the punishments.

The NFC East garbage fire won't be settled until week 17. That being said I'm rooting for Buffalo. Jerk.

Fun Fact

Quote:
According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, the appeals officer for the case was recently retired NFL player Matt Birk.
On the appeal of the 100k fine for Suh's hit on Vikings center John Sullivan. former Viking Matt Birk who played ten years at center for the team denied the appeal. Matt Birk would be the last person in the world I would to rule on that appeal if I was expectating it to be an impartial ruling

I didn't say I was rooting for it to happen, just that I kinda think its going to! I picked the Cowboys to win the division preseason! Don't make me get out my retro Irving Fryar Eagles jersey!

Well I couldn't say that the Bills were going to beat the Dolphins and race away with the AFC East... at least not with a straight face. Then again Tuel Time could soon be upon us.
