Its an interesting look but the two undefeated teams should absolutely go. For me it's that simple. I have OSU and FSU and think their schedules are weak but they are undefeated and should go.

BCS Bowl picks before today's game

OSU vs. FSU
Orange Bowl Bama vs Clemson
Rose Bowl Stanford vs Michigan St
Sugar Bowl Auburn vs. Baylor
Fiesta Bowl Ok St vs UCF

Orange Bowl has first pick, takes Bama. Rose bowl gets second replacement pick and goes with conference affiliation and takes Michigan St.

Orange bowl has first pick and takes ACC tie Clemson to get a nice matchup.
Sugar bowl picks next and is left to choose between Oregon and Baylor. I think they go with the 1 loss Baylor team.
Fiesta gets UCF.

Should hold pretty steady actually. If OSU loses, auburn to NC, and OSU likely ends up on the Orange Bowl. Ok St or Baylor lose Oregon takes the at large bid to play in the Sugar bowl.

Wow, OB passes on Bama. Probably didn't want to risk picking a disappointed fanbase that wouldn't want to travel to the same place two years in a row. Ohio State travels just as well if not better anyways.

I would also think at that point, the money is gonna be about as good, Ohio State has huge brand power.

Sugar Bowl has a right of first refusal with SEC teams when they lose their team to the BCS CG. Alabama was the #1 choice if Ohio State hadn't proven why they were overrated as Auburn would have been obligated to the Sugar.

Michigan State got hosed. An Auburn team who needed 2 miracles has no business in the BCS CG as FSU's human sacrifice.

No that's not true.

The #1 choice goes to the bowl that lost the #1 team, which is the Orange Bowl and Florida State.

Yet again you don't know what you're talking about. The Sugar Bowl can protect its SEC interest which it did. Otherwise we'd have an Alabama-Clemson Orange Bowl and a Ohio State-Oklahoma Sugar Bowl.

Quote:
Team-Selection Procedures
The bowls will select their participants from two pools: (1) automatic qualifiers, all of which must be selected, and (2) at-large teams, if fewer than 10 teams qualify automatically. The following sequence will be used when establishing pairings:

1. The top two teams in the final BCS Standings will be placed in the National Championship Game (hereinafter "NCG").

2. Unless they qualify to play in the NCG, the champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games:

• Atlantic Coast Conference - Orange Bowl
• Big Ten Conference - Rose Bowl
• Big 12 Conference - Fiesta Bowl
• Pac-12 Conference - Rose Bowl
• Southeastern Conference - Sugar Bowl

3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.

A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select:

A. A team in the NCG, or

B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;

Further, when two bowls lose host teams, the bowl losing the No. 1 team may not select a replacement team from the same conference as the No. 2 team, unless the bowl losing the No. 2 team consents.

4. After steps No. 1, 2, and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order:

• January 2011 games - Sugar, Orange, Fiesta
• January 2012 games - Fiesta, Sugar, Orange
• January 2013 games - Fiesta, Sugar, Orange
• January 2014 games - Orange, Sugar, Fiesta

All teams earning automatic berths must be selected.

5. After completion of the selection process as described in Paragraph Nos. 1-4, the conferences and Notre Dame may, but are not required to, adjust the pairings, taking into consideration the following:

A. Whether the same team will be playing in the same bowl game for two consecutive years; and/or

B. Whether two teams that played against one another in the regular season will be paired against one another in a bowl game; and/or

C. Whether the same two teams will play against each other in a bowl game for two consecutive years; and/or

D. Whether alternative pairings may have greater or lesser appeal to college football fans as measured by expected ticket sales for the bowls and by expected television interest, and the consequent financial impact on ESPN and the bowls.

The pairings may not be altered by removing the Big 10 champion or Pac-12 champion from the Rose Bowl.

Yes, but the bowl that is losing its team because it's number one, the Orange Bowl, gets to pick before anybody else including the Sugar Bowl. I don't quite get what your point is or what you're saying.

Seems to me the last time that one dimensional offense played in this game they played well below their averages (which a much better QB) as their opponent had 1 month to prepare. That Oregon defense is no where near this defense. Add to that, FSU will have access to Nick Saban's notes on how to beat Auburn (more importantly the post game notes and analysis).

Meanwhile Auburn doesn't have a defense capable of slowing down FSU's offense, so if it were to become a shootout, that again favors FSU.

Your coaching staff isn't good enough to gameplan on their own? Need Daddy Saban's notes? Please Jimbo won't go asking for anyones notes.

MassNole isn't incorrect, but it just isn't official. Yes, the Orange Bowl had the first pick and Bama is the obvious choice. But, the Bowls have an agreement to allow the other bowls to get their conference tie-in as one of their picks

So basically, since the Sugar and Orange lost their tie-ins to the NC, they are FREE to pick anyone, but agreed to not take each others conference teams.

So it went:

Orange - Clemson (in whatever order for the Orange Bowl)
Sugar - Alabama
Orange - Ohio State
Sugar - Oklahoma
Fiesta - UCF

It is less of a "Draft" and more of a meeting with agreement between the four bowls. I want to say they started doing this about 10 years ago.

hmmm do i understand the relationship of our former HC and OC. No I don't think I do. But if you really knew your HC and his huge ego (which he got from none other than Saban himself) you'd know he wants to win this with HIS notes and HIS gameplan. He's not going ask for anything from anyone. You should know better.

It is less of a "Draft" and more of a meeting with agreement between the four bowls. I want to say they started doing this about 10 years ago.
That isn't remotely the same thing as what he said. Informally the Orange Bowl may have allowed the Sugar Bowl to choose Alabama, but they have the right of first refusal.

The Orange bowl got to pick a replacement for Florida State first and took Ohio State. Then the Sugar go to pick a replacement for Auburn and took Alabama. Stanford and Michigan State and Baylor were locked into the Rose and Fiesta bowls respectively since they had conference champ tie-ins, that's how that works. There are no gentleman's agreements, I think the Orange would've gotten Bama vs OSU if it could but it couldn't.

Which is why they've shared notes for years?

Not to mention on our defensive coaching staff we have Pruitt as DC and 2 former DC's as assistants in Sal Sunseri and Charles Kelly (who is pretty damned familiar with the Triple Option attack).

Exactly. This is why I posted the actual rules :) Was a much quicker death for the argument rather than letting it continue :P

You think the Orange passes on Alabama without the current "system" in place?

Yeah because Ohio State travels well and bring higher TV ratings, they are the top cash cow fan base. I could be wrong about the agreement thing so it works out smoother, but both bowls win by taking who they took.
