This year in MWC vs. FCS games, Fresno State easily beat Cal Poly (3-5) 41-25 (was 41-3 at one point), UNLV beat Western Illinois (3-6) 38-7 (17-0 at halftime), Eastern Illinois beat San Diego State 40-19 (was 19-19 before EIU's 21-0 run), Nevada beat UC Davis (3-6) 36-7 (20-7 at halftime), Boise State killed UT-Marting (5-3) 63-14, Utah State blasted Weber State (1-7) 70-6, Colorado State beat Cal Poly (3-5) 34-17 (27-17 going into the 4th), Wyoming beat Northern Colorado 35-7 (21-7 in the 4th), and Air Force beat Colgate (3-5) 38-13.

So the teams who were really curb stomped were bad FCS teams by the better teams in the MWC.

That isn't even close to true. The top teams in the AAC, MWC, CUSA, & some years even the MAC would be at least competitive in AQ conferences. The top FCS schools would finish in the bottom 3 of every FBC conference except maybe the Sun Belt.

Right but that's my point. The good FCS teams can hang with almost any of the lower-FBS teams, but the bad FCS teams are REALLY bad.

Now compare the AAC to the Colonial Athletic Conference

Houston (6-1) beat Southern (4-4) 62-13
Louisville (7-1) beat Eastern Kentucky (5-3) 44-7
Cincy (5-2) beat Northwestern State (3-5) 66-7
SMU (3-4) beat Montana State (6-2) 31-30 (scored with :12 to go to win)
Rutgers (4-3) beat Norfolk State (2-6) 38-0
McNeese State (7-1) killed USF (2-5) 53-21
Towson (8-1) beat UConn (0-7) 33-18
Fordham (8-0) beat Temple (1-7) 30-29 (scored GW TD with :04 to go)

Upcoming:
Memphis vs. UT-Martin

AAC vs. BCS
Maine (7-1) beat UMass (1-7) 24-14
Maine (7-1) lost to Northwestern (4-4) 35-21 (played each other even in the second half 21-21)
Towson (8-1) beat UConn (0-7) 33-18
Navy (4-3) beat Delaware (6-2) 51-7
Central Michigan (3-5) beat New Hampshire (4-3) 24-21
Boston College (3-4) beat Villanova (4-4) 24-14 (Nova lead 14-7 at halftime)
West Virginia (3-5) beat William & Mary (5-3) 24-17 (GW TD with 3:22 to go)
Akron (2-7) beat James Madison (5-3) 35-33 (stopped 2PC in the 4th)
Buffalo (6-2) beat Stony Brook (3-4) 26-23 in 5OT
N.C. State (3-4) beat Richmond (2-6) 23-21 (GW FG with :33 left)

(Albany and Rhode Island do not play FBS teams this year)

Again the AAC has the edge, but CAA teams are no slouches by any means as they all (sans Delaware) gave FBS teams good close games (not going to pound their chest for beating former conference mate UMass). Give those teams 22 more scholarships and they can compete with AAC teams.

I chose the CAA and BSC based on their geographic proximity to the MWC and AAC, but it seems they are near the top FCS conference.

So the best Colonial teams (Maine and Towson) can beat the second worst MAC team and the worst AAC team. I don't see how they are close at all. Compare that to the best AAC team (UCF) who would finish 3rd in the BIG.

The gap between FCS schools and non-AQ schools is far bigger than the gap between the non-AQ schools and the Big Five.

It's a lesson for all aspiring teams. Stop scheduling Nevada, Bethune Cookman, and Idaho as your OOC games if you want to get an edge on your rivals in the computers.

Wasn't a comment on Oregon/Alabama. Both are situated in a position that winning out takes them to the National Championship. You take care of yourself and don't worry about others. The entire BCS front-runners are a joke with their OOC.

If FSU scheduled some decent OOC teams the boost may have been enough to keep them above Oregon.

Fair enough. The worst offender is Bethune Cookman anyhow. You are a championship aspiring team... why in the world are you scheduling FCS opponents?

Don't get me wrong I firmly believe FSU is the best team in the country but poor scheduling is a self-inflicted wound. If you schedule competitively and then win out you are a shoe-in rather than risking being the odd one out by scheduling FCS teams and weak FBS teams.

FSU picked up some good ground in the coach's poll and for this week is expected to pass Oregon for #2 in the BCS.

If Oregon wins though they would jump back to 2.

I expect all you FSU fans to be rooting for Stanford on Thursday :D

While Stanford seems like the team most likely to upset Oregon, I thought Herbstriet made a good point last night in pointing out Oregon's game at Arizona. That reminded me of the Oregon Arizona game from 2007 where Dennis Dixon took undefeated Oregon into Tucson, Dixon tore his ACL or tore it worse than it was already was and Antoine Cason had a hell of a game for Zona.

Yeah Oregon could easily lose to Arizona or Oregon State. Or in the Pac12 championship game.

This is a great read about the schedules of the top 3 teams and breaking down their competition:

To recap Florida State is legit. The hype they're receiving is justified and should continue. On the other hand Alabama and Oregon have played just 5 teams with winning records and only two teams currently ranked in the top 25 COMBINED. Those are resumes national outlets find “impressive”.

Meanwhile OSU’s victories are consistently devalued despite coming against 5 teams with .500 or better records and two of the best defenses in the nation statistically: Wisconsin (6th) and Iowa (13th).

It's enough to make you question everything...and maybe you should.
That sums it up nicely. **** ESPN and the bs they are trying to pull because of the BTN.

It's going to be hysterical at the end of of the year when FSU has 3 wins over Top 10 teams (assuming Miami doesn't implode without Duke Johnson) after the ACCCG and Alabama and Oregon have maybe 1 between them yet we'll be lead to believe they played the harder schedules.

Yeah, and the thing is with the 14 team conferences now, most teams in the SEC don't have to play all the good SEC teams every year, just a few. Look at Auburn's schedule this year. It is pretty awful so far. Alabama skips out on Florida, Georgia, , Missouri, and South Carolina. People perceiver it though as winning all those games in the SEC, which isn't quite as hard as it was a few years ago. Florida State's schedule has been fairly legit, and they've blown everyone away.

Ouch......

On one hand it's not their fault the Big 10 has fallen behind the other conferences and games scheduled in advance didn't pan out as planned. But on the other hand..........

Michigan fell down, Michigan State hasn't really stepped up so much, Iowa had a couple decent showings but that has been it, Wisconsin is up and down, Nebraska flashed but hasn't been anything of note really. Its just been a mess, kind of what I see the Big12 becoming(and which has helped Baylor be undefeated this year).

The OSU hate is ********. I have no idea why morons keep spewing it.

Oregon has accomplished much less over the same span but the same mush minds drool over their shiny uniforms.

At this point, all a person can do is laugh at the idiocy of it all.

BTW, this was directed at ESPN and the rest of the sports media. Not people on this board.

With the way scheduling works now it's not like they didn't try to play good teams. But in the end it still looks bad. I hate Ohio St as much as the next guy but what can they do?

I hate the Ducks too but they have had a nice 3 years. Went to the championship and lost but they won the rose and fiesta bowl.
